UT3 gets US date

Euro announcement next week.

Midway has confirmed on its official website that the PC version of Unreal Tournament III will be out in the US on 19th November.

European confirmation is expected at UT3 event in the UK next week, where we will be able to play the game and chat to people from Epic.

However, judging from comments made by Midway recently that it would be out "very close" to the Australian date of 15th November, we can probably expect it on either the 16th or 23rd.

But unfortunately there is still no word on when the PS3 version will be on shop shelves, following Mark Rein's comments last week that it was "too early to know" whether it would be released this side of Christmas.

An Xbox 360 offering is still also planned, but will arrive later due to an exclusivity arrangement with Sony.

    16th is also when Crysis comes out. Shit.
  • Amajiro #4 4 years ago

    @Katsumoto

    That suggests to me we'll probably see it on the 23rd. Crysis is one of the few brands that can really compete with Unreal.

    I heard that the X360 version will be launched later and with less content then the PS3 version.
    I also heard that the Ps3 version will make full potential of the CEll in order to deliver better performance and graphics.

    Sony want to show better graphics than Gears of War while using the same engine... (altough i have seen far better graphics already with Ratchet, Drakes and Heavenly Sword)

    Apologie LOL... thats all I'll say to you.

    Oh Jack(sony of america guy) I thought you dont pay for exclusivity but apparently there is a deal here... full of s**t Sony not that we didnt already know that was false when he said it but someone has to point it out. I just think its funny how they cant even tell blags right anymore without looking dumb. Seems like the fanboys are following their lead too, right Apologie?...

    We already know the 360 version is getting released later since Sony has a time exclusive. Looking and performing better, I will wait until we see the evidence before trusting your word. For some reason, I believe if you had heard the opposite then you would still find a way to spin it in favor of the PS3. Personally I think you should step back from Fan loyalty and become a game player. It will make your life much easier.

    I know everything that is PS3 is golden in your eyes but after playing Ratchet and Heavenly Sword, I would be hard press to say they look better than Gears even thought they are completly different types of games. As far as uncharted goes, it looks nice but it doesn't look that nice.

    Machiavellian

    Not only Uncharted, i mean Killzone2, MetalGear4, GT5 all seem in a upper level concerning graphics, Ratchet is an achievement in terms of graphic and performance... and i'm not loyal to Sony, i like both consoles, i was very impressed with Gears and Bioshok, but right now, is the Ps3 that excites me the most with the recent releases and the upcoming titles.

    I wonder if the longer the PS3 version takes to appear, the shorter the exclusivity period becomes.

    As far as graphics go, only console exclusives will show what the PS3 can achieve. MGS and GT5 do look good, but their release dates are continually being pushed further and further back. And let's not forget there isn't even a date for UT on the PS3 yet. Getting the best out of the PS3 just doesn't appear to make economical sense for developers, even on exclusives.

    @Apologie
    I can concede that the games you mention do look good but they do not strike me as looking better than some 3rd party games coming to both system. In other words, I haven't seen anything exclusive to the PS3 that I haven't expected from what I believe the system is capable of. This goes the same for the 360 which I believe both systems are about Par. There are areas that the PS3 strength shows and there are areas where the 360 is strongest. In the end, both system meet in the middle on graphical goodness and performance.

    Well so far PS3 has failed to prove any technical superiority over the X360. It's even quite the opposite as cross platform games tend to prove or even the delay incured by GTAIV (due to the fact that the ps3 is a mess to program...).

    Regarding exclusivities : they will become very rare IMO, even MGSIV developers seemed to be seduced with a multiplatform release not so long ago.

    Btw, I am still waiting for that awesome GT game to play on my psp...
  • skillian #16 4 years ago

    Aargh, isn't this story about the release date of a PC game?

    Surely 85% of the other stories on EG would be better suited for this PS3/Xbox goodgraphics/shitgraphics "debate".
  • captainrentboy #17 4 years ago

    What was so impressive about Heavenly Sword's graphics? A lot of it looked pre-rendered, quite prettily pre-rendered, but pre-rendered all the same (Very, very God Of War-esque), so with that in place there was minimal interactivity with the surroundings, and bar the cutscenes, and the chick herself, the generic more abundant enemiess were extremely unimpressive, graphics wise :/
    I can't share Apologie's excitement over UT3 on the PS3, as it's obvious the developers are having a lil difficulty getting it all together on the format, yet the 360 version was probably coming along lovely, but instead of getting it soon, we have to wait until it's fit and ready for the other, slightly inferior machine :)

    That's a good question (Gurgeh) that I've posted elsewhere as well. How did Epic sign the 'timed exclusive' deal? If it gets delayed, they have the right to release the X360 version at the same time? It's all very interesting and neither EuroGamer or any other online/paper-based games mag seem to DARE to ask these manufacturers, publishers or developers ANY useful, interesting or even difficult questions or hold them accountable for these dire press releases, statements and marketing decisions. They just seem to print what all other magazines/on-line sites say by quoting the press release. I find that quite shocking that none of them go an extra mile and be different.

    We all know why they don't dare to challenge them: They cannot bite the hand that feeds them, otherwise, they'll be banished to the media sin-bin.

    So, do not expect any decent answers from anywhere. This all just seems to make for more speculation, innuendo, conjecture and most alarmingly, animosity amongst gamers, with "mine is better than yours" type arguments.

    I don't own any nexgen console and don't give a monkeys right now, because I'm happy with my PS2. I just wish Sony would put more focus on the PSP and make the software catalogue more divert.

    I'm betting the X360 version of UT3 is finished and ready to go though, because they probably used Microsoft's XNA to port it to/from the PC, and the PS3 is delayed until the engine is optimised for the CELL Broadband Engine processor.

    As to graphics, well, if they switch on anti-aliasing on the PS3 version, then you might see a difference because many games do not yet use this and are just rushed out, unlike their X360 equivalents.

    "still no word on when the PS3 version will be on shop shelves"

    Why would you want to play such a fast paced twitch shooter on a fuckin' gamepad anyway???
  • Kenshin001 #20 4 years ago

    Wow, the hysterical MDF is in full effect on this thread! Take your pills girls.

    @Gurgeh

    The interest of the developers will increase as the install base starts to grow..., " if you remeber, in the beggining, many people said that the Ps2 was a dificult console to program for". Ps3 already delivered some good games, and will continue to... same as the X360. But right now, i'm more excited about the Ps3 games that will be launched

    By the time the PS3 shows any advantage over the 360, the next round of consoles will be upon us.Sony keep telling us to wait but I'm sure most of us have got better things to do with our time...
