US Shivering Isles PS3 disc

No word on Europe yet.

PS3-owning fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion keen to see what happens on those fabled Shivering Isles without forking out for the Game Of The Year edition will finally get the chance to do so next month, as Bethesda Softworks has announced plans to release a retail PS3 version of the expansion on 20th November.

Or at least, they have in the States. For now, the developer is unable to comment on the expansion's fate in Europe. "When we have more to announce for Europe, we'll let people know," a staffer explained on the Bethesda blog post comment thread relating to the US announcement.

That means that if you want to experience Shivering Isles, the only confirmed way of doing so over here (besides importing - and we couldn't tell you whether save-games will be compatible) is to buy the Game Of The Year edition, which includes the full game and Shivering Isles along with the Knights of the Nine downloadable content. Ubisoft will be distributing that - they said earlier this month that it will be out in December, although some retailers list it for the middle of next month.

Still, with the expansion's European fate still seemingly to be decided, there is hope, so you might want to hold out. Bethesda has also previously said on its blog that it is looking at the possibility of getting Shivering Isles out via PlayStation Network, which would undoubtedly prove to be a better option for most players.

For more on what's happening across the pond, and how the disc will work in practise, check out the Bethesda blog post and comments thread for clarification. Or, you can read our Shivering Isles PC review for more on what you're missing/not missing/confused about.

This is quite odd as the other platforms have it out for some time. Why delay it?

I think it's just lack of organization on Sony's part.

Surely sony has nothing to do with this? If anything, it would be bethesda imo.

No, game saves are not compatible. I found that out the hard way. :(

Easy to blame everything wrong with PS3 to Sony! This one purely Bethesda and possibly due to PSN being different to Live Marketplace and how easy it is to put up software/payment processed?

I cannot understand why Publishers do not apparently take to PSN as much as they do to Marketplace unless it is numbers of users to justify the costs of doing so. Marketplace is more established and proven to generate money and PSN Store havent so that must be the case.

As Bethesda was quick to allow Shivering Isle to be downloadable only and in this case choosing the optical disc format? What up? Agreement with Ubisoft? Basically too lazy to spend valuable time to research this up as going to go and get Metriod Prime 3!

    ^ which is Sony's fault!

Who cares? The game is so utterly crap, that I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to have even more crap content...

If oblivion is crap, you might as well stop gaming.

"If oblivion is crap, you might as well stop gaming."

Why? It's not like it's the only game around. I personally have never bought a worse game. I really, really, really hate it. Probably the incredible amount of things that you can do obscured the fact that everyone of those things has been executed awfully. I can only attribute the ridiculously high review scores to the fact that it was maybe less terrible than the first batch of 360 titles and mass delusion (a bit like what stock prices are based on).

I think you'll find you're in the minority of people who hate Oblivion, Les, but, hey, that's your prerogative and it's what makes us all different and interesting. ;)

Personally, I cannot rate the game highly enough, it's so engrossing and it's terrific value for money in terms of content and gameplay, offering a rich, detailed world to explore that can last hundreds of hours. Well it has for me and I'm still nowhere near bored of the game. The Xbox 360 and PS3 need more games like this in my opinion not more overrated shooters like GRAW and Gears of War. :p

I think there are more people in the world that hate or are indifferent toward Oblivion than people that actually like it, but I get your point. ;)
