If only someone would mod UT2k7 so we would have UT'99 with updated graphics. :/

Eurogamer: Curse you, Mark Rein. Why is the PS3 version getting all this lovin' over the 360, anyway?

Curse you too, Eurogamer. :D

The mods. We can release any mods we want on PS3 because it's an open system, whereas Xbox Live is a closed system.

How DARE they mention any kind of possible advantage of the "evil" platform?

I remember, Sony came up and told us users could create and share anything at all! And we were like, 'Um, we'd like to test that theory.' Once we're done with the PS3 version I guess we'll sit down and talk to Microsoft and see what we can work out.

Now imagine what would happen if there was no PS3 to "show them they can do it"...

We're thinking of selling them over the Playstation Network, or Xbox Live, just anything to let these guys make some money from their projects.

Nice for mod builders, this is good news.

PS: IF I buy this, it will be on the best platform: PC. Consoles are not cut out for mod-friendly FPS games like UT. Fact.

"Consoles are not cut out for mod-friendly FPS games like UT."

Are you suggesting that Consoles are cut out for mod-friendly FPS games unlike UT, mod-unfriendly FPS games (regardless of their similarities to UT), both, neither or some other answer that I haven't thought of yet?

What's Marcus Fenix doing on the main picture?
Can the Unreal engine only render 1 different face?!

Does that sound weird to you?

Aside from the keyboard+mouse Vs gamepad dillema, the fact is that if a game relies heavily on mods, it belongs on the PC, which is the best (not to mention only) platform where people can build them.

If they're not mod-friendly, well, it's just a matter of tuning controls to make the game belong on consoles (Halo, many would say, is the best example). That doesn't mean those are better suited for either platform.

Epic have been busy with the controls and game speed so that everything feels right on the PS3.

"the fact is that if a game relies heavily on mods, it belongs on the PC, which is the best (not to mention only) platform where people can build them"

But what Epic are offering PS3 owners is the ability to play the mods, not build them, on the PS3.

So you're writing off UT PS3 for two reasons. One of which you invalidate yourself and with the other you've gone off the track completely.

Too harsh of you.

I think it's fine that at least the console versions (surely the PS3 at least) will be able to run the mods, really.

BTW,

"the fact is that if a game relies heavily on mods, it belongs on the PC, which is the best (not to mention only) platform where people can build them"

But what Epic are offering PS3 owners is the ability to play the mods, not build them, on the PS3.

If you read my own sentence, the one you just quoted, I never suggested that the PS3 could be used to build mods.

BUT when I wonder which version should I get... that's the PC version, no contest.

I know you didn't. But you yourself said "Consoles are not cut out for mod-friendly FPS games like UT. Fact.".

When attempting to clarify this you then talked about the PC being the best PC to build a mod on rather than anything about how a PS3 owner would play mods, which is what Epic are offering.

You still haven't stated what is so mod playing unfriendly UT3 PS3 to justify your above statement.

mod-friendly is not the same mod-playing-friendly.

Someone playing UT on the PC has access to both the editor and the engine to run the game.

Someone playing UT on a console can download mods, making very little difference between them and DLC.

My point is, the best platform for games such as UT is the most open one. That obviously being the PC.

LOL! Me too! I'm not sure I want it that much now (there's so much other stuff coming out) but since I'll be getting it for £17.99, I just can't bring myself to cancel it! :D

(How, oh how, oh HOW do you do italics here??)

The one thing UT3 is crying out for is a mod for its crappy, generic, dull, lifeless, dark, morose visuals. I'm not talking about the levels really, it's the characters: UT'99 and UT2003/2004 all have cool-looking characters with memorable features and faces. It's quite easy to pick them out in a game. But in UT3, it's all so "post-modern dark emo"... it sucks IMHO.

The irritating thing, however, is that the game does seem to play quite well.

The game plays like sweet thick warm chocolate running teasingly over a pert nipple. On the PC, anyway.

Even Warfare is a thrilling ride, and I hated Onslaught so, so much.

Ergo, who needs mods anyway?

I'm sure your original point was much closer to writing off the console conversions complete. That is what I was having an issue with.

"Consoles are not cut out for mod-friendly FPS games like UT."
