Unreal PS3 next year - Rein

But out before Xmas in US.

Epic boss Mark Rein has confirmed that the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will not be out in Europe this side of Christmas.

Word came from a statement on the official forums, revealing that the North American offering had been cleared by Sony and would be out before the end of the year.

"We got news last night that Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing," Rein stated.

"My guess is that Midway will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10 and it could show up in stores as early as December 11, but more likely toward the middle of that week."

However, it doesn't look like the game will make it over here until 2008.

"For PAL territories, specifically UK and Europe, we have a few localisation-related tasks to complete and then we should be starting the certification process pretty soon," continued Rein. "My best guess is early next year (January or February) for the game to ship over there."

The PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 was originally due to be released alongside the PC version sometime this month, making it a console exclusive until the end of the year. A 360 offering is in the works for 2008.

However, due to certification and development hold-ups it missed a simultaneous launch and Rein would only offer that Epic was working as hard as it could to release the game before Christmas.

Good news for some, then.

Stick your head into our Unreal Tournament 3 PC review to find out if it was worth the wait.

For PAL territories, specifically UK and Europe

Silly me, I was always under the impression that the UK was part of Europe. ¬_¬

Why not just delay the US release and do it worldwide when it's ready for all of us?

I'm sick and tired of all these delays just for Europe!

Absolutely Pathetic. Then these game companies wonder why the games don't sell as well as they should have here...perhaps we bored of waiting?

You must be a liberal then ;)
  • Darren #4 4 years ago

Well I've decided to pre-order it from Movietyme for £32, on the off chance that I'll get the game before Christmas. However, Movietyme have the US version's release date listed as 1st February 2008 but presumably that's because they haven't updated their website yet.

Just get it on the PC.

I do not agree... that would mean that we could not import it and play it early ;)

The PC version is not an option for me I'm afraid as I have a 22" 1680x1050 TFT monitor and the game runs OK but not as smoothly as I'd like on my 2 GB, Athlon64 X2 4200+, 512 MB GeForce 7900 GT, Windows XP-based PC, and I'm loathe to reduce the graphics settings to less than High. The PS3 version will undoubtedly run and look better on my 32" 1366x768 Sony Bravia HDTV than it does on my PC.
  • tonynibbles #8 4 years ago

I might give this a go over the PC version, mainly as it will probably look better on PS3 (unless I give my PC some serious upgrading).

    I'm running it through a 24" samsung 1920x1200 display.
With 4 GB ram, 8800 GTX and dual core it runs smoothly at that res with all maxed out... But it did come at a cost...

Darren, for your sake I hope you're right :)

    @Darren

Just hook up your PC to your TV and the lower resolution should speed things up nicely :)

You'll probably save yourself a tenner as well.

The PC version is £25 at Gameplay and the PS3 version is £32 from Movietyme so it's only an extra £7 which is better than running the game on my HDTV, which would be more hassle than its worth as my PC isn't anywhere near my TV.

I've heard that the PS3 version of UTIII supposedly runs very well and the video footage I've seen seems to confirm that. It appeared to run better than on my PC and looked better to boot which is what I'm based my comments on. Obviously I lose the ease of using mouse and keyboard controls (although the PS3 version does support them) but then I prefer the controller for movement anyway; I'll only miss the precision of aiming with a mouse that's all.

Yeaaaahhhh, Great news on the US release this year, my import order has been in for weeks @ VG+.

Should help fill the hole left by the HAZE delay.

I demand an apology by the Eurogamer staff.

I was looking forward to a not so sparsely filled PS3 games Christmas.
A lot of the games in your 'Christmas shopping list' are coming out in 2008.

Thanks for making us happy with a dead parrot!
I guess I can scratch the Orange box also from my list...

    I'm sure EG's PS3 Christmas Games list said Christmas 2008... ;)

Its good to live in one of, if not THE most important territory for these folks !

"Silly me, I was always under the impression that the UK was part of Europe. ¬_¬"

No, we're singled out for a special fucking over, despite the fact our "localized" version will be the US version character-for-character.

What I don't get is that UT3 is just grunts and shrieks yeah? So how come MS can release Mass Effect over here in the same week as the US version, yet "global single SKU disk Sony" take months and months? Or do they just hate us?
  • DonnieDarko333 #18 4 years ago

Beano i can import it as well, but it would just be fairer if it was released everywhere at the same time!
  • penhalion #19 4 years ago

I would be upset if I honestly had any intention of buying this.
  • LukeFX #20 4 years ago

    Set of complete wankers.

Why the fuck does the USA get the game before us.

Role on pirating. Im going to download the PC version and not pay a penny. Serves the jack ass American gimps right.

I hope it sells shit over here in the UK because they deserve it.

World releases should be standard now, its a fucking joke.

How many games have come out in US at more or less the same time as Europe these past few months? Let's see:

Call of Duty 4 (All formats)
    Assassin's Creed (All formats)
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Halo 3
    UT3 - PC version
Gears of War - PC version
    Mass Effect
    PGR4
    The Orange Box

To name but a few. Why is it that these games are released at the same time in US and Europe and not PS3 version of UTIII? With the PC version being released at the same time this can only point to SCEE being difficult. God knows why considering the fact that they have so few titles available for their precious console this Christmas you'd think they'd be dying for some more titles! *sigh*

  • Steroyd #23 4 years ago

Kropotkin... how do you explain Assassin's Creed and COD4?
  • septimus #24 4 years ago

    F*** you Midway.

    Importing.
  • Xerx3s #25 4 years ago

septimus: I'm sure that they are trembling in their boots. In the end, the only ones who suffer from your move is us. It means less European sales and more american sales, making it even easier for future games to have constructs like these.

@darren - good luck fixing the poor/low widescreen FOV on the PS3 version, at least on pc you can use 'fov 100' to workaround it so you are not at a disadvantage to 4:3 users (you see less top and bottom on the widescreen thanks to yet another UE3 game borking the FOV for it).

BTW over 100fps on 8800gtx all on high details @1440x900 (higher than my hdtv) or if I put it through my tv @ 720p even better performance (plus I can tweak it, plus you get the editor and easier to use custom content... and a mouse/keyboard control as standard)

I think PS3 owners will be just happy to have a game that (a) isn't on the 360 yet and (b) doesn't run like absolutle crap. I don't think they're gonna attempt to play it or anything, cos like multiplayer-only games? How quaint.
  • Les #29 4 years ago

No problem at all: Smart PS3 owners import US games anyway, it saves tens of euros per game.
  • Ryze #30 4 years ago

Not read all of the comments, but it's immensely stupid that these games don't get an English only UK / Europe release before Chrimbo, with the other languages following later or available as a download.

They're shooting themselves in the foot and losing sales.
  • zedzee #31 4 years ago

This is what the UK gets when it aligns itself so closely to the EU.
  • sonnejim #32 4 years ago

Second class citizens again, When are people going to realise that sony don't give flying f**k about the uk and europe, Japan and the US is there first aim always has been, have you all noticed there's never a problem getting a blueray movie out on time. Game & Gamestation always seem to have more movies than games on the shelf, hmmmmm format pushing anyone :o(
PS: not a very happy ps2 owner
  • Yaz #33 4 years ago

"This is what the UK gets when it aligns itself so closely to the EU."

That has nothing to do with it. :|
  • zedzee #34 4 years ago

"That has nothing to do with it. :|"

It has nothing to do with it if you don't mind a United States of Europe.

Sony cannot be bothered with UK, because it puts it in the same category as the rest of the continent, even though we speak English...similar but not the same language as the Americans do!

If Sony can't be bothered to convert from American English to English English, then I don't mind have a game come out sooner with American English localisation, than have to wait until every single version for the continent is also ready. And hence why many gamers will import the American version before Xmas.

But like I said, we're now part of Europe, whether we like it or not.

    Brussels ahoy!
