Uncharted Trophy support introduced

First Blu-ray title to receive support.

Naughty Dog has patched duck-and-cover platform favourite Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to include Trophies.

The patch allows you to unlock 48 shiny metal rewards including the first ever platinum one - earned by gathering the 47 others.

As with other games receiving post-release Trophy patching, however, you will have to begin the game again to start collecting them.

According to Naughty Dog, the Trophies in Uncharted map to the game's existing "medals" system, so if you unlocked those the first time through you will at least know where to look when you go Trophy-hunting.

For those who can't remember, or can't be bothered to work it out, the newly minted PS3Trophies.org has a full list.

Trophies - similar to Xbox 360's Achievements - were introduced in the PS3's 2.4/2.41 firmware and allow developers to incentivise various tasks within a game.

Uncharted is the first Blu-ray title to offer support through a patch, but various developers have pledged to do likewise, including Criterion with Burnout Paradise and Incog with Warhawk.

At the moment, you can also compete for Trophies in Super Stardust HD and PixelJunk Eden.

To see why it might be worth playing Uncharted again, check out our Uncharted: Drake's Fortune review. Alternatively, you could pick it up brand new for less than GBP 20 now it's part of the PS3's Platinum range.

Couple of days too late with this, sorry ;)

    ...first for news eh?
  • Arwin #3 4 years ago

Yes, I've collected a bunch of trophies already, cool stuff.

What an excellent incentive to play the game again, and for players who don't own it yet to enjoy both the game and trophies now that it's out on platinum as well. It's no miracle that it's been ranking number 1 and now sold out totally on play.com, where it's priced at a ridiculous 21 euros.

And my god how beautiful the game still looks. At it's best moments there is nothing that I've either seen or seen announced that looks anything near as good!

Don't take this the wrong way but what was the point of Sony adding Trophy support to the PS3 if nearly a month later there's only THREE games that actually use them (two of which were only added recently)? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have delayed Trophy support until a decent number of games actually used them, whether out of the box or via a patch? No?
  • CannonAnBall #5 4 years ago

Maybe Sony should have consulted you, Darren?

Great, the only thing missing is a visible ePeen when checking friends out on my friends list..

On the trend of being first for news, when are EG going to tell us that Burnout Bikes has been put back to September?
  • wyli #8 4 years ago

Darren > Ahh, but then they get stick for waiting as well. It makes no real difference whether its now with a few games or later with lots.
  • Beano #9 4 years ago

@Darren: I agree - but by launching trophy support "early" in firmware 2.40 before more games support it, advertise the feature and generates more user hype and adds more intensive to developers to support it.

Adding trophy support now is a great way for developers to create a bit of attention to their older games and increase sales.
Uncharted is a great game and fine if more people get to try it now - even if playing a game just for trophies, is a bit sad ;)

There's no right way or wrong way of introducing this. The only important thing to note is that I've unexpectedly become a trophy whore. Thanks Naughty Dog!
  • Steroyd #11 4 years ago

Game is too awesome trophies or not.
  • wewillselfdestruct #12 4 years ago

Absolutely. I've already played through twice and have been wanting to playthrough again, but figured I'd wait for the trophies. I like shiny things.
  • SeesThroughAll #13 4 years ago

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have delayed Trophy support until a decent number of games actually used them, whether out of the box or via a patch?

Delay a feature, for what? Waiting for third party to kindly join in?
They're last in the market, they can't afford to. The sooner they catch up in software features, the better for them.
  • Widge #14 4 years ago

Just going through this again, forgot how good it was. No generic meathead marines, usage of colours other than brown... great stuff!
  • Widge #15 4 years ago

oh and besides, pre-trophy release, most people were moaning on to GET IT OUT NOW
  • zuljin #16 4 years ago

    @Darren
Why would 3rd parties implement Trophies support if they are not available via the XMB? They're not going to waste time on it, and quite often they'll have moved onto other projects. Now that it is available, and some games do have it, hopefully they'll implement it as new games come out.

"Wouldn't it have made more sense to have delayed Trophy support until a decent number of games actually used them, whether out of the box or via a patch? No?"

Errr... no. That makes no sense at all.

Well thats that cleared up then.
  • Darren #18 4 years ago

@zuljin - ... except that when the Dualshock 3 was released, there were already a large number of games out that supported rumble. We didn't have to wait a month for games to support it and even games released before the Dualshock 3 came out in the US like UTIII, Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank ToD supported rumble out of the box. It's not like Sony decided to add Trophies a month before the v2.40 firmware update, they've been in the works since Home was unveiled over a year ago!!! ;)
  • SeesThroughAll #19 4 years ago

    @ Darren:

Except that the DS3 hardly required new SDKs. All developers had to do was remove #undef macros to get the vibration feedback back into the code. And even then, not all games support it still. ;)
Trophies apparently require a bit more effort.

Sony HQ = Trophy Unlocked: To divide the opinions of PS3 owners!

I m also starting to think how widespread trophies will be few months on from when it is introduced? Seem going to be very few already released games that will be patched. Should expect to see more new multi platform releases to have it included, Achievements can be easily transferred but yes the coding for it will require an extra work.

Will Tiger Wood PGA 09 have trophy when released on PS3 at end of month? Or system came too late in day for the inclusion? Then should we wait until perhaps Saint Row 2 in October? How many third parties will adopt it and soon enough for us to start to see it featured virtually in all the games that is coming out? Or always going to be patchy?!

Still glad Uncharted been patched as is that the one I would want the trophy to be featured for the most!

I wonder if we'll see platinum games getting patched. Uncharted is heading platinum isn't it?
  • andywilkie35 #23 4 years ago

i might get this now actually
  • SeesThroughAll #24 4 years ago

@ Widge: It was already released as Platinum. It still needs to be patched online, though.
  • Widge #25 4 years ago

Sorry, what I meant was that it was quite intriguing that a game from last year gets patched up to date (not complaining), but kind of makes sense if it is getting a second release via platinum. I was wondering if there will be an emphasis on other games going platinum getting patched in time, or thereabouts, for re-release.
  • Burkey123 #26 4 years ago

Yes! i have been looking for an excuse to play this again... its epic! i have unlocked a couple of trophies already.
  • BobsUncle #27 4 years ago

I wondered what the patch was, I thought maybe it might be to fix the bugs in the way Drake falls from objects, e.g. I let go of a ledge early on in the game and landed on Sully's head, it couldn't work out why i'd not hit the floor and killed me instead. Then I couldn't get through the opening on the submarine, I got stuck a foot below it's top surface.

Or maybe it will fix the crappy fixed camera parts? Or the boring linear gameplay.

Sorry, I found this game to be a bit shit really.
  • Zander #28 4 years ago

    Yeah BobsUncle you nobber!

If only it was on xbox, then you'd love it. Especially when it has so much in similar to gears (linear, fixed camera angles!!).
  • BobsUncle #29 4 years ago

Sorry, me not liking this game is a touchy subject with Zander, I nearly made him cry when I told him.

And I don't know what fixed camera angles you're on about in GoW anyway Zander you bum bandit. And stop begging me to play it co-op with you, I traded it ages ago.

Whoops! Don't own Army or Two anymore, traded that in about 3 days after I got it. Don't own GoW anymore either, Just fix that now...

I think the reason I wasn't impressed with this is because it had been bigged up so much, I loved MGS and thought this might be as good or better, but I'm a bit dissapointed.
  • AOFanboi #30 4 years ago

Well, time to go and buy it methinks...
  • Execta #31 4 years ago

I've collected 13 trophies, about 15-17 treasures (all so far, I think) and now I'm level 2 in PSN. 8) Trophies are a real nice extra. I started to play Uncharted through now for the third time. I couldn't do it unless there wouldn't be no trophies. It's fun to try to collect them and the same time follow the awesome Oscar-worth story and dialogue. Uncharted rules!
