Uncharted 2 will get another MP demo

And a release date "very soon".

Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has promised another Uncharted: Among Thieves multiplayer demo before the game's autumn launch - a date for which we'll have "very soon".

"Yes, we're going to have another multiplayer demo before the game hits shelves," said Wells during a live chat on the US PlayStation blog. "The exact timing isn't finalised yet, but it should be available to an even wider group this time, so if you missed the last one I don't think you'll have any problem getting in this one."

And there is still plenty left to test, as Wells said many more competitive and co-operative multiplayer modes will make the final cut.

"We haven't announced all of the multiplayer modes yet, but I can tell you that you have several more competitive modes than we tested in the beta and at least two more co-operative modes (that are actually some of my favourites)," he said.

"We also have variations on all the competitive modes that focus on specific kinds of weapons," added Wells, name-dropping the Cinema mode that allows match-recordings to be stored, uploaded and shared.

On top of the multiplayer, Wells revealed that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will feature a longer single-player campaign than Drake's Fortune, which we thought was excellent anyway.

"The single-player campaign is definitely going to be longer than Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," offered Wells. "We have over 90 minutes of cinematics alone!"

And, added Wells, "We were very conscious to make sure that Uncharted 2 was a standalone experience. There is no expectation that you played the first game to enjoy the second." Although, he said, there will be some returning characters to meet such as Elena and Sully.

Naughty Dog's movie approach to making Uncharted resulted in the announcement of a big-screen adaptation last week. This will be lead by Marvel bosses Avi and Ari Arad.

"We're really excited about the development of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune as a movie," said creative director Amy Hennig. "We've been working with Arad Productions for the last year-and-a-half or so, and couldn't be happier about their enthusiasm for the project."

What? No Digital Foundry pixel by pixel analysis to accompany said screenshots. Eurogamer is getting fucking lazy! Not good enough.

Excellent news that the single player campaign is longer this time round. That should silence those people complaining that the addition of multiplayer would impair the length and quality of the single player campaign.

Really hope this longer single player experience isnt just because they have lots more cutscenes.. Original got the balance of cinematic vs gameplay just right..

I disagree, Uncharted at least has characters that are more than 1 dimensional muscle-men in body armour, which is more than can be said for a lot of games optioned for film adaptation.

You need likeable, relatable characters to hold together a movie - a 90 minute action scene just wont cut-it.

I loved the cutscenes in the first Uncharted because they were very cinematic and featured great voice-acting and likeable characters. Having 90 minutes of cutscenes in the sequel sounds great to me, it's effectively a feature length movie with a free game!!! :D

    @donnie

I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with you. Far too often the single player experience is sacrificed at the altar of multiplayer mayhem.

I'm an old man and I prefer single to multi (although I don't mind an online tear-up now and again). I recently played through Drake's Fortune again so if the single player in Amongst Thieves is longer. All good.

    +2

Don't make it too long though. I thought the first was pitched just about perfect.

It's funny, the more I've been anticipating the second game, the more I've come to think that the first is probably one of the best games I've played in the last god-knows-how-many years.

I absolutely loved the beta, everything seemed so finely tuned in the gameplay. It was always going to be a day one purchase for me, but I am even more excited after playing it. As a big fan of Uncharted and Gears of War, I believe Epic should really take a close look at this game... from the gameplay to the multiplayer customization, it's everything Gears of War 2 should've been.

I'm buying drakes for the single player. I'm fairly sure that the multiplayer (once everyone gets on it) will be a lag fest to rival the early gears 2 sessions I crawled through. I'll hit the multiplayer after a few months, when things have settled down and there are enough servers about to handle the load.

Hopefully the new multiplayer demo will be on general release, to give then a real idea of what the load is going to be. Betas never ever give a realistic server load ever...ever ever.....ever!
