Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta open to all

Get your Drake on.

Sony has thrown the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer beta open to everybody following a period of closed testing.

That means that you can rock it up across four maps - The Ice Cave, The Temple, The Village and The Plaza - in a range of multiplayer modes until the beta ends on 12th October.

The full game, which picked up a 10/10 review on Eurogamer last night, is due out in the States on 13th October and in Europe on 16th October.

The multiplayer beta also includes access to Machinima mode, where you can create movies to watch in the separate Cinema mode, which records all your online matches and allows you to upload them to the internet.

There's also a Store for unlocking items like skins, boosters (perks) and taunts, along with weapon upgrades for the co-operative levels, of which the beta also includes one sample section.

The full game has additional gameplay modes and some other maps. And one of the best single-player campaigns we've played all year, before we forget.

Nice I'll have a look. The videos of the MP look like a snoozefest (IMO SDF!!!!!!!) but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. TBH I'm not really playing any MP at the the mo so will only really play single player of UC2 anyway.

Mind you I've got the MAG beta to try as well (I hear bad things on that one though!).

woo - I was in the first Beta (which came with Infamous) and that was awesome!

    Great news, thanks Naughty Dog!

Will this be on PSN this week then?

Surprisingly good MP this (and I usually hate online multiplayer). Had me thinking of good old Unreal Tournament way back when. Also, the cinema feature was bloody great.

Don't think I'll be playing much beside the single player story on Uncharted 2, but the MP seems very promising indeed.

errm so how do I get it? is it just on the PSN store?
  • TopKatt #8 2 years ago

Yep. Go into the PS Store, click on latest and it's in there. It's not first for some reason but I think it's the third or fourth item shown.

Just tried deathmatch, I don't think it'll be stealing me from SP much but it's actually not bad. Reminds me of MGO, fun for a while but nothing you'd spend too much time on.

Can't join a game for love nor money :(

Yes its a reasonably fun blast of a MP but I dont think it going to replace the leading MP games, still it is pretty good package by itself and certainly adds to the longevity of Uncharted 2.

Its quite smooth too from my deathmatch session, third person of course but quite different to Gears of War which is much more macho and upclose, its fair to say that its similar to MGO but better in my view. The level I played was sweet and compact.

What I really cant wait is the proper SP game.

I downloaded the Beta last night and got kind of owned by the high rankers with their elite perks. I was on a team full of newbies, myself included, and the enemy team didn't have a single player under rank 20...basically, it was lambs to the slaughterhouse.
Still, it's easy to get into a game, didn't notice any lag, sound effects are brilliant especially the grenades/explosions going off, an well rounded exceptionally well polished game. Look forward to buying.

Yes. Not sure about 10/10 as always but, I would honestly recommend this game to all of my PS3 owning friends. Heck I still automatically say "Get Uncharted - Drakes Fortune" to anyone who says they are getting a ps3. I don't even hesitate and I always recommend it to anyone who asks what games they simply must get for their PS3.

So two weeks until I get my own copy of this and my poor mate get's to use his review copy in peace :)

    Wow this is freaking AMAZING!
  • penhalion #15 2 years ago

I recommend everyone (with a PS3 of course) try this. It will familiarise you with some slight changes to the controls and you'll be ready to go when the game finally get's here. Some of the changes threw me at first and I'm only now getting my kill on!

    @Bad09

The MAG beta is dire. It definitely shows that a game with too many players is not what it's cracked up to be. It also looks like they have masked the lag by interpretting where they THINK players are moving to. This leads to a lot of situations where your shooting at a player who technically isn't even there anymore!

Not had any lag at all on the MAG beta. Its actually very fun when you team up with a good squad.

U2 beta is fantastic. Cant wait for the full game.
  • EvilBob_leeds #17 2 years ago

I've not to say I've not encountered any lag on the MAG beta whatsoever either. It does have problems, but many of those could be sorted out for me with a bit of judicious tweaking and a decent tutorial mode.

The MP beta on UC2 is loads of fun. I found myself on the wrong end of a hiding from players who had levelled up enough to buy perks at first too, but stick with it, it's worth it ;-)

Was enjoying this last night, the build is from June? So its quite old, but I did find the bluring abit irratating at times (anyone else)... but still really had a good time.
  • just4funUK #19 2 years ago

I really enjoyed the first uncharted but have to admitt I didnt know if it would work as a multiplayer game . It does and its good fun so download the beta today you won't be sorry.
  • owl #20 2 years ago

yeah, i downloaded this yesterday, played a bit this morning and, despite becoming bizarrely nervous playing against strangers, i enjoyed it a lot. got mercilessly slaughtered many times of course but i at least got a few kills in (grenades are your friend). the character animation is incredible. in fact, the whole thing is very impressive and that it's simply the 'icing on the cake' multi-player leaves me quite excited.
