Uncharted 2 loading improved by patch

Plus: clan tags, rematches, rebalancing.

Naughty Dog has patched Uncharted 2 to improve loading times in multiplayer and add clan tags, among a variety of other changes.

"You will notice that the game loads into a map much faster after leaving the vote screen," according to the PlayStation blog.

As for clan tags, they're available to everyone from the same place you choose boosters. "While it's not full clan support, we wanted to be sure that everybody can fly their clan colours within Uncharted 2 multiplayer," the developer wrote.

Uncharted 2 patch 1.03 also adds rematch functionality, so the same group of players can go again at the end of a match if they're up for it.

Elsewhere, boosters have been rebalanced slightly, and a couple of bugs quashed.

Prssure to meet a release date maybe? Anyweay - didn't think the loading times were that bad for a SP rather than MP focussed title, although the rematch option is welcome.

Great to see ND still working away on uncharted 2. MP is cracking and deserves to be looked after. (PFA)

This did take ridiculously long, but I suppose they worked pretty damn hard (and did pretty damn well) with the original release. Good changes either way.

What about improving the loading time for Single Player?

What about improving the loading time for Single Player?

I was actually thinking the same really... Whenever you skip a cutscene, it just takes forever to load the freaking level, just like in the original. Guess thats the price for not having a mandatory installation.

So they make the best game of the year, they then offer free dlc maps and now a load time improvement and people complain that they took too long. Unbelievable.....

    Lol true

    they can't win! :D

I traded UC2 when I got the platinum and MW2 came out...but with all the improvements I'm tempted to get it again!

I'll see if I can get cheap after Xmas I thinks :p

@Darren: Sometimes a dead-line forces developers to make compromises - or maybe the developers learned some new tricks since release?.
I'm just glad they continue to improve on an already exellent game - can't see any reason to bitch about it.

    I'm pretty stunned also.

I don't supposed they have introduced any player balancing? Or do you still have a team of level 4 players matched against level 45 players every game? If that has been resolved I'll start playing again.

Edit: Apart from that issue it was the best multiplayer I have found on a console.

    +2 Beano

Also likely is that someone came up with a better solution close to the master date, but changing a system like that is pretty risky (in terms of the possible knock-on effects). Anyway, by what yardstick were the load times 'overly long'??

Some of the earlier comments (Darren...) seem unreasonably petulant. Apologies if this wasn't the intention.

I'm inclined to agree with Bigglesworth, it's very likely that whatever this load time fix was was dreamt up shortly before submission to Sony and subsequently postponed to avoid breaking the game. After passing submission and getting it released they'll have taken some well deserved time off (bear in mind they'll have been on crunch time for a couple months prior to submission) and then returned to work on this new loading method. Implementation + testing + tweaking + re-testing + patch submission = wait.

Uncharted is almost certainly a Game of the Year winner for this year and deservedly so, here's hoping for a repeat with Uncharted 3 in the not too distant future.

I hope they are working on a 3rd ps3 game and not a psp uncharted
