UK Metroid Trilogy not discontinued

Nintendo sets a Prime example.

Nintendo's told Eurogamer that Metroid Prime: Trilogy has not been discontinued in the UK.

That means shops can still re-order the game from Nintendo and replenish depleted stock.

Earlier this month, a Nintendo spokesperson said the opposite, and told the internet that the game was "no longer being shipped". Those keen to buy the game were pointed towards the second-hand videogame market.

Metroid Prime: Trilogy bundles all three Metroid Prime games, somewhat obviously. And what do you get when you combine three brilliant titles? Our Metroid Prime: Trilogy review has the answer.

Thank God for being able to import, even though I'm still not sure if a purchase is warranted, having in mind I played the first two to the death in my GameCube, specially the first one.

lol! my cousin went out into the city and hnted down 13 sealed copies of these in wait of the supposedly inevitable ebay price hikes. hw he must regret tht now!

What a cheap stunt. Claim it's discontinued to give it a sales boost whilst everyone drains what stock is currently available, wait a week or two and then turn around and say it wasn't true. This wasn't an honest mistake or it would've been corrected within a day or two.

Hopefully this news will filter back to retailers soon and drop the price back to a reasonable level...

On "sale" in GAME and Gamestation for £29.98... :o/

Even if you bought this in a panic you're still going to enjoy it, so it's nothing to worry about.

Pretty shitty way to do business...
  • dr_swin #9 2 years ago

yeah, I bought a copy in anticipation of it getting quite rare. I like owning rare games.

@SPAM: Where in the original article does it mention any specific territories? Whether EG put "[discontinued]...in the UK" in the title or not is fairly irrelevant. The original quote just says it's being discontinued. Maybe they feel they were misquoted, but to not come out and clarify the situation straight away smacks of opportunism, wouldn't you say?

What a cheap tactic by nintendo Europe. As others have said, that's a shitty way to do business.
  • TonyHarrison #12 2 years ago

@asphaltcowbay: You're right, that article doesn't specifically state a particular region. But it does specifically mention Amazon.com (not .co.uk), uses a z instead of an s in various words containing 'ises', and finally, the guy who wrote the article has a comment further down the page in the comments section that states he contacted Nintendo of America, who will only comment on all things American, and he admits that it may not be the same situation for people in Europe or Japan...

I couldnt find it in shops around christmas but saw it the other day for £30, picked it up and am loving it. I own the 3rd game but never played the first 2 because i cant deal with standard controllers for shooters. I'm working through the 1st game and so far its been great. I did kind of panic buy it after all the news of it being discontinued and it selling out everywhere online, but i intended on getting it anyway.

@STKD: agree...it seems pretty obvious that the original blog was about NA. i don't think you should ever assume that just because something is available (or not) in NA that this is also the case for europe.
  • jonsaan #15 2 years ago

I shy away from buying this as, like Smash Bros, my wii won't read the disc.
  • K-Project #16 2 years ago

Excellent news! And to think I nearly paid £50 for it off some eBay twat...

Is this game really worth buying?

I already bought MP 3 Corruption, but honestly didn't care for it... And wasn't that convinced about the controls either...

Is it worth paying 40 Euro (at my local gamestop) for essentially MP 1 & 2, for a non fan of MP 3?
  • Monkey_Chops #18 2 years ago

Aw sonofabitch. I bought it last week in case I'd never get the chance ever again. Mind you, it ain't half bad at all.
  • GamesConnoisseur #19 2 years ago

What UP with confused messages? Doesn't give a good impression, what about other countries? What of the future of AAA games like Metroid or is these sort of games now old fashioned and not a core strategy?

Lots of questions but glad that game is still alive and around, Nintendo may need to be more clear.

"Earlier this month, a Nintendo spokesperson said the opposite, and told the internet that the game was "no longer being shipped". Those keen to buy the game were pointed towards the second-hand videogame market. "

Don't even try to make this out as Nintendo's fault. You are well aware that Nintendo has different publishing divisions for its different territories, and there was absolutely nothing in the original source to suggest that it was Nintendo of Europe that had told the blogger the game was discontinued. And yeah, it was just from some random blog, you should have checked with Nintendo before publishing the false information.

Because of what you (and other UK game sites) reported, it sold out everywhere and I'm sure a bunch of people paid way more than they wanted to so they wouldn't miss out on the game. You really screwed up.
  • jambii267 #21 2 years ago

Why would they even consider discontinuing it? It's hands down the best value game on the Wii.
  • smelly #22 2 years ago

    >Why would they even consider discontinuing it?

    it sold like shit?
  • roz123 #23 2 years ago

@Fendermaster: I played MP3 without playing one and didnt enjoy it that much, although i was a fan of super metroid. The first so far has been brilliant, up there with the best shooters ive played and ive played most of them
  • JohnnyWashnGo #24 2 years ago

    Surely good news?
  • FenderMaster #25 2 years ago

    @roz123

thanks! Yeah, I liked the 2D Metroid titles (Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission) too, MP 3... I dunno... it wasn't bad, but it could be really annoying and boring at times... reminded me of Turok 2 quite a bit actually...

I'm mainly curious about MP 1, since I hear its the best, and wanted to know if its worth buying this just for MP 1 for someone who wasn't totally enamoured with MP 3...
  • polymorph #26 2 years ago

@FenderMaster, if you are just curiuos pick up the gamecube version, its dirt cheap.

edit: Pesrsonally speaking, i didnt get on with 1, or 2, i just didnt like the controls. Prime 3 i liked, because of the controls.
    Swings and roundabouts i suppose.

    Edit 2: I only played 1 & 2 on gamecube.

Huh? What should I do with that copy I reserved for myself? It's existance is meaningless now...

Just kidding of course, sure it may still be shipped, but if I'm being honest it has always been difficult to find in my area and my shop has had this single copy for ages.
I'm going to play these games, and I'm going to love them, regardless of availablity.
  • Frandroid #28 2 years ago

    @jonsaan
My Wii had the same problem reading dual layer discs, sent it back to Nintendo, fixed and returned within a week.

Does anybody have any idea if the NTSC version works in a hardmodded (chip with DL support) PAL Wii?

I REALLY want the metal edition, which the US version contains, so I'm thinking about importing it.

Damn you Nintendo Europe for making a crappy plastic version!
