UK charts: Wii Fit on top yet again News

11 May, 2009

Wii Fit holds off Wolverine for a second week to remain top of the UK all-formats chart.

That's six consecutive weeks at number one for Nintendo's best-seller, which is only three weeks away from equalling Who Wants to be a Millionaire's lifetime 18-weeks-at-number-one record.

There's little movement at the top, although last week's newcomer Rhythm Paradise manages to break into the top 40 at number 10. Disappointing new entry Velvet Assassin can only be found in the Xbox 360 chart at 19.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena plummets from seven to 28, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Tom Clancy's HAWX and SingStar: Pop Edition all fall out of the top 40.

That's not consecutive weeks, right?

And YAY! Burnout Paradise back in the top 40!

As far as I'm concerned Wii Fit is a clever piece of hardware with a mediocre piece of exercise software thrown in, it's not a "game" as such, not by my definition.

So I say... great to see the Wolverine game in the top slot, the movie was utterly average but the game, while no classic, is certainly better, more entertaining and rather fun in that good solid 7 out of 10 way. :)

I would really love to know the amounts the games are shifting in the top 40, for example how much is Wii Fit selling at the top and what the sales are for the game at the bottom. I think that would make for much more interesting reading than just a top 40... anyone know?

@makeamazing

for some reason in the uk they never release the sales figures, and call them "super top secret".

Elsewhere in the world they publish them.

dunno why though.

Sorry, Wii Fit is a game whether anyone likes it or not. Stamping your feet and ignoring that it's number one isn't going to change anything.

It's testament to the stagnant state of gaming when people are hailing an average movie license game as the real number one rather than commenting that developers aren't imaginative enough and/or invested in enough to come up with something which counts as a 'classic' game and has salepower these days. If it can't be done, then we're not going to see as many 'classic' games as perhaps we have in the past. Though I doubt that, as while not 'sold' in the traditional sense, World of Warcraft managed it and made it look easy, but people tend to forget that.

Wii Fit did something different, it's clearly worked, and like it or not there are going to be lots of companies looking to emulate it.

Riddick's spelled wrong in the chart >_>

Chinatown Wars really needs more sales. It's absolutely brilliant.

It would be such a shame if Wii Fit beats the record of a quality title like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

it was made and marketed towards fat women who watch the homeshopping channel. and yes it worked, but we should all hope and pray that nobody replicates this. the wii has already done enough damage to the overall quality of video games

I borrowed the Wii for 3 days with several games - WHAT A LOAD OF CHEAP SIMPLISTIC GAMING!...played maximum for 1hr and just got so bored with it.

With my PS3 & 360 withe following :Fable 2, Dead Space, Pure, Street Fighter IV, GoW 2, Viva Patna, Oblivion, Guitar Hero, Grid, Endwar, Mass Effect, Kameo, Forza Racing, Burnout Paradise, Rez HD, Ikaugru, The Tales Of Verperia, Motor Storm 2, MGS, Killzone 2, LBP, Virtua Fifgter 5 etc...playing these then going on the Wii is like i'm playing with a toy rather then a games console!

Oh! order import Demon's Soul for PS3 - has anyone played this, & is any good action/rpg ?

And it took you 3 days to play 1 hour of Wii gaming? Are you grossly over weight?

I bought HotD: Overkill yesterday and I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the package. I would normally scoff at rail-shooters but it really is an excellent game, with more than a few laughs to boot. Evidently, not all Wii games are rubbish, even if the bad:good ratio is something like 20:1.

The TRUTH is...

The majority of Wii games are ridiculously simplistic mini games with a bit wiggle here and there. Having said that any knowledgeable gamer would already know that? But if I’m being honest the Wii has giving me the most enjoyment this generation in the platform, racing and FPS genre (although Metroid Prime) isn’t actually classed as a first person shooter.

Speaking from experience and owning all current and last generation consoles; I have played almost every conceivable “Must have title.” I won’t buy and old shit and I have the option to select which in my opinion is the best version of multi-format games. If for instance both Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods are enhanced by Motion Plus to a degree whereas the Wii version gives the best gaming experience? I’ll buy that version.

The problem I find is that AA titles on Wii are considered as AAA titles - I'm referring to HOTD & Overkill: while I found Overkill decent, though quiet simple; HOTD was lame but fun for a small time before it starts to feel very samey!...Wii gamers seem to get over excited at a game that would be considered average if on 360/PS3.

PES 2009 has been doing nicely again since the Wii release. Rarely talked about, but easily one of the most innovative and clever Wii games out there. Genuinely adds something new and useful to the genre, I couldn't go back to 'normal' football games now.
