UK charts: Wii Fit back on top

No new challengers. Full top 40 inside.

Wii Fit has high-jumped back to the top of the UK all-formats chart, bumping LEGO Indiana Jones down to five.

Movie tie-in WALL-E held on at two, while there were significant climbs for Mario Kart Wii at three and Guitar Hero DS at four.

There are few shockers in the rest of the top 10: Wii Play at six, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games at seven, Super Smash Bros. Brawl at eight, Brain Training at nine and Big Beach Sports at 10.

There were no new entries this week, although More Brain Training and SEGA Superstars Tennis re-entered the charts at 22 and 32 respectively.

The biggest mover was Unreal Tournament, which tumbled from 24 to 37.

This week the top 40 waves goodbye to The Bourne Conspiracy and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Nintendo dominating the charts this week!

What do mean 'this week'... Nintendo dominate the charts EVERY bloody week! LOL

Looks like my recent purchase of NFS: ProSteet for the 360 (Ł15 from Amazon) has helped keep the game in the top 40! Shame then that the game itself is so dull, it's possibly the most boring racing game I've played in years although it's difficult to pinpoint exactly why that is as it's competently made and everything. Glad I didn't pay full price for it last year... I only bought it now because of the lack of new games and because it was cheap... :?

How can it enter the charts with no stock anywhere? Stupid local shops in my area selling out :(

Not that I actually want it, I just want what I can't have.

Found out how Wii fit is getting to the top without anyone being able to get a copy!

Turns out shops like Game and Argos are getting limited quanitites in and selling them out immediately. You need to keep ringing your local shop and they will tell you if they have any coming in that day. It's simply first come first serve.

Reason I found this out was that during a luch break, I went to look around Game and there was a strange, mysterious and kind of disembodies queue forming in a small corner. Being British to the core, I naturally joined the end of the queue and asked what was being queued for. Low and behold it was Wii Fit. The Game I'd walked into had a few coming in at about 12ish. I waitied for 20 minutes and just as I was about to leave (with a so long suckers just for good measure) the guy came out the back, opened a till and sold the small line a wiii fit each......irony is that I've been so busy I have yet to even open mine!

That still doesn't really explain how Wii Fit is topping the chart if it's available in limited quantities at certain stores and out of stock everwhere else... :?

... unless game sales in general are very low overall.

I submitted a review for Wii Fit last week, but I think it got lost behind the sofa :D

I'm saddened that Wii Play manages to stay high in the charts. I know it's only for a Wiimote, but why not just by a Wiimote and ignore the game? Sure, you save money, but it is at the cost of your soul!

    @ Darren

That's the problem with charts, with no sales figures involved it can be misleading and people assume games at the top are selling loads of copies, which is not always be the case.

It's like music charts, nowadays you don't need to sell much as you'd think to reach number one.

God, what a lot of complete crap :(

I remember the days when the Nintendo fanboy week after week would desperatly search these salesfigures for ANY Nintendo-realted game, and burst into tears of joy, when Mario Does XX made it to #40.

And now, they rule the world once more....

heh heh, i occasionally look at the rumour mill at kotaku and it does make me chukkle to see the americans squirm painfilly at the nintendo heavy UK charts.
it really doesnt matter but a lot of their readership seems to think its a direct assault on the video game industry.
  • spekkeh #14 4 years ago

Wii is a fad, people only buy it for Wii sports and then it accumulates dust. Wii owners don't buy games. Teh Wii am d00med before 2009.
  • General_Zod #15 4 years ago

I dont own a wii but I have spent more time playing Wii Play than anything else when I have got the chance. The shooting range game makes it worth it just by itself.
  • Zomoniac #16 4 years ago

Why is that shite broken Guitar Hero thing at number 4? Good lord.
  • Razz #17 4 years ago

I've been a Nintendo fanboy for 20 years. What a brilliant time to be alive. :)

I am not surprised that Dr. K is at #9 as brain training games are very popular. However, if you are really interested in brain training games, there are better ones on the market.

When are people going to get bored with the Wii? I have - stupidly - went through 3 from buying one, getting bored, selling, buying another one when a good games comes out, getting bored, selling etc.

Won't buy another one. The Wii is almost a barren wasteland if you're a hardcore gamer.
  • agentk1986 #20 4 years ago

Ninja Gaiden II can't even crack the top 40 despite many older games in the list.
  • Oh-Bollox #21 4 years ago

But how can it top the charts if it's just an expensive niche? I thought there were no games for the Wii? Or if there were, no-one was buying them? Shit, I forget what current line the trolls are towing.
