UK charts: UFC is the undisputed champ

inFamous at five, Boom Blox nowhere.

UFC 2009: Undisputed remains champion of the UK chart for the week ending 30th May, despite plenty of big-name new entries.

The highest of those is Guitar Hero: Metallica at four, as non-movers Pokémon Platinum at two and EA Sports Active at three block its path.

PS3 exclusive inFamous enters at five and Virtua Tennis 2009 appears at eight. The dismal Terminator Salvation misses the top flight to debut at 11, and the DS release of movie tie-in Night at the Museum 2 pushes the game to 35.

But there's no sign of the excellent Boom Blox: Bash Party, which eventually turns up at 18 in the Wii-specific top 40. Punch-Out!! fairs no better this week, incidentally, remaining at seven in the Wii top 40.

Dropping off the bottom this week are Rhythm Paradise, Battlestations: Pacific and Killzone 2. They may appear again, whereas the dreadful Damnation may - justifiably - not be so lucky.

Every time I see one of these charts I am still awed at Call of Duty 4 still being in there. I am even more awed by Call of Duty 5 still being in there too!

A first party Nintendo-title not on the top 40? Ouch!! Or is it second Party?
  • GrandpaUlrira #5 3 years ago

The ads for Punchout were dreadful, and I haven't really seen much of it instore either.

Even more impressive is the CoD 4 seems to be more expensive than 5 in most shops!
  • leftlion #8 3 years ago

Not seen any ads for the new Boom Blox.....maybe they should, you know, advertise it.

I am loving Boom Blox :)

Good news for inFamous, loving it personally. The city is beautifully atmospheric.

Boom Blox has had no promotion. I'm reticent to pick it up anyway as I forked out full-whack for the first one and have barely played it.

I find very odd how the Wii masses seem to ignore the really good games in favour of the less good ones... no Punch Out and no Boom Blox in the top 40, both of which have received both favourable reviews and extensive advertising. What the hell... is it any wonder that there's so much utter dross on that platform when people are content to pass on the quality games? :?
  • Santino #14 3 years ago

i didnt even know boom blox was out, need to pick that up.

    @ Crofto

In your opinion. Anyway think the game is a solid 8 and a a new ip thats a good start. Fun game only thing annoying is the pesky reapers on the roof tops lol
  • Inigo #16 3 years ago

I got inFamous at the weekend and agree with the 7/10 score. Its a very good game and i've played it for at least 7 hours but it could have been a lot better. Eurogamer is the only website that uses 1-10 when rating a game.

@spliffhead, the chart positions in places like HMV and Game are paid for by the publishers.

I think its a strong 8 personally, yes there are little niggles with it, but overall the story is excellent, and there is always a feeling (like the reviewer said) that when you have switched the game off, you want to go back to it.

inFamous is a lovely little game IMO. OK so it's a bit rough around the edges visually what with the lack of AA and pop up, but it's just so much fun to play and that's the whole point, right? I've been so addicted to the game I played it until almost 5am without realising the time! :o

I love the moral aspect of the game, choosing between being good or evil (I can't help being good - I've already got the Goodie Goodie trophy and reached Hero ranking), and the story is great stuff so far too, it definitely helps to have a decent narrative to drive you through these kinds of games (I'm looking at you, Crackdown!!!). If I have one niggle it's that the Reapers can be bloody annoying at times until you clear an area but other than that it's a solid 8/10 for me. Hopefully we'll see a more polished sequel in the future.

I'm glad for inFAMOUS i think it's a good game and to be at No.5 on the all-format charts with only 'sales monsters' on top is a great achievement.

    "eurogamerlol.net"
    /sigh

You will regret those ill spent seconds when you are on your death bed. Though with a 15 year old pun for a username, perhaps not.

"Bash was no1 in HMV this morning? "

Well I can't speak for HMV but I have heard of other retailers using their "charts" as marketing tools that don't really represent sales.

Yeah take a look at the Tesco in store chart and it has little resembalance to real world sales. They often seem to put games that are not selling very well high in their charts presumably to pick up more sales from people who might equate something being high in charts to being a good game.
  • Smoped #23 3 years ago

I think the main reason Boom Blox didn't do any better might have something to do with the fact that none of the online sellers I tried during the weekend had it in stock. Those must account for a hefty percentage of game sales these days.
