UK chart: Toy Story 3 spinning on top

Dragon Quest IX scrapes into top 10.

Disney's very-good-actually Toy Story 3 game has topped the UK all-formats chart on its second week of release.

Eurogamer awarded Toy Story 3 an 8/10 and concluded that movie tie-ins might actually be something to look forward to should this standard be met more often.

Dragon Quest IX was the only new entry in the top 10, finishing ninth - way off pace with its phenomenal Japanese launch.

Last week's chart leader, Crackdown 2, was pushed to 10th.

The top five were: Toy Story 3, Red Dead Redemption, Dance on Broadway, LEGO Harry Potter, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, 2010 FIFA World Cup, Just Dance, Dragon Quest IX and Crackdown 2 rounded out the top 10.

I'm actually surprised DQIX has done as well as it has considering how quickly a cracked version appeared. Nintendo really need to come up with a clever way to beat piracy when the 3DS comes out (lets hope it's not too obstructive for the rest of us).
  • MrFlump #2 2 years ago

Quite happy with seeing that. I've been hooked on Toy Story 3 at the expense of Crackdown 2 and Red Dead Redemption. I guess nostalgia combined with a decent game = success.

Wonder when Braben will get Elite 4 out now using that logic :)

Game publishers take note, if you want a successful licensed game that sells well, first thing to do is make it a good game rather than a rush job to coincide with whatever film it's launching with!!
  • Cheapshot #4 2 years ago

*sigh* DQIX was never gonna sell here, you can buy R4 cards from literally anywhere right now. They're selling them at a local computer shop near me, there's like a huge banner on the shop window with R4 card deals - no-one gives a f**k, apparently. DS is just the wrong console for the west if Square-enix want Dragon Quest to be an international hit like Final Fantasy.

From my playtime this weekend, I can confirm Dragon Quest IX is superb.

Trouble is any old crap license games sell. Quality very rarely enters the equation. Thankfully, Toy Story 3 looks fantastic. But I don't expect other license games to follow suite.

Cheapshot - 9th isn't so bad, though I do agree with you, it's VERY easy to get an R4.

Agree that DQIX was never going to sell here like it did in Japan. But it's not dead yet - reckon that game will stick around for a long time yet in the top 40.

I'm mediumly impressed it got into the top 10.

However I wonder how much of it is due to the incredibly misleading ad campaign ("Dragon Quest is a game that's all about playing dress up!";)
  • ryohazuki1983 #10 2 years ago

Just a word off warning for parents out there - I got Toy Story 3 on the Wii, unfortunately it's way too tough for my 4 year old - but he likes watching me play through it of course....

And still Eurogamer ignores it.. I mean, they'd probably trash it, but that's four weeks in a row it's been in the top 5 now.

Toy Story 3 is a massive anti climax. It's nowhere near the quality of the LEGO games. 6/10 at best. Depsite the EG review it really is fairly standard movie license fodder. Yes Toy Box mode is interesting but it's not enough. There is no way this can be compared to Lego Harry potter. It's just not in the same league as a complete, polished product.

As if reviewing Dance on Broadway is going to influence the droves of people who have laready bought it. You know it's a so so dance game that's tons of fun with your mates. If you are a teenage girl that is.

I see the future and it's full of dancing games. Ubisoft must be laughing at the money that's coming in, first from Just Dance, and now Dance on Broadway.

Meanwhile, Demon's Souls dropped out of the chart like an informant going for a swim wearing concrete boots. /Cries.

I really need to pick up DQIX sometime very soon
