UK charts: Tiger roars to the top

Conduit can't do it for Wii.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 swings into the UK all-formats chart top spot, knocking two-week champ Fight Night Round 4 down to two.

Film tie-ins Transformers and Harry Potter, which opens in cinemas this week, take three and four respectively.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood holds strong at five, tailed by Wii Fit at six, Virtua Tennis 2009 at seven and The Sims 3 at eight. Somehow Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is back in the top 10 at nine, while Prototype rounds the list off at 10.

The highest newcomer this week is Wii-exclusive The Conduit, which fails to spark much of a reaction at 29. Our Conduit review sheds light on why.

Trine, another new release, is nowhere to be found - as is the Oblivion/BioShock double-pack.

Elsewhere the downfall of Overlord II gains pace, tumbling from 18 to 33, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite at 38 still struggles to find Japan-like success.

Tiger Woods 10 for Wii with M+ is simply great.

i'm going to have to pick tiger wii with M+ up at some point. heard too much good stuff about it from users, wasn't really waiting on a review but it would have been nice!

@Sniper_Fox - You mean the Wii version of Tiger Woods still has borders? I noticed them in Tiger Woods 08 but I'd have expected them to have gone for the later games. Tut.

One of the brilliant things about the move to HD gaming on the 360 and PS3 is that all games now run at 60 Hz on HDTVs and no longer have top and bottom borders (unless intentional, say, for cutscenes, etc.).

thanks for the warning sniper_fox, will hold off and buy it on the cheap now i think. there is no excuse for not even supporting 480p.

Was The Conduit not out just 3 days ago? Surely 29 isnt bad then?
  • woodnotes #6 3 years ago

Burkey123, you'd be slaughtered on NeoGAF for saying that.

ALL games come out on Fridays.

I still find it weird that people dont buy the proper games for the wii then complain about the amount of shovelware it gets... if people bought the bloody games then more people would make them... Why spend millions on a half decent game when Hello Kitty Beach Party Sing-a-Long would sell more :/

Conduit's sales are a new IP with zero advertising, based on one (maybe two) days on the shelves. It's certainly not going to be a big hit by any standards, but it should get a jump for next week's chart once it has had some time to establish itself.

The conduit is crap! I bought it on friday. Played it yesterday for a few hours and got severe motion sickness from using the rediculous lock-on feature and the totally annoying shooting and aiming mechanics. The all seeing eye thing, where you scan the room for identical switch nodes every few minutes is best left undiscussed!

I haven't had such bad motion sickness with a game since the original doom screen wobble so I traded it in today for Bound in blood.

Is there a platform breakdown for Tiger somwhere? Would be interesting how many of those sales came from the Wii and how many had the WMP bundled in.

penhalion: You use the lock-on? I just shoot manually. The default side pan is very annoying though, I've disabled that, only really useful for up/down aiming. What annoys me more is the bad handling of lag online, no idea why a 50€ retail game drops the framerate for a game with Americans when an 8€ WiiWare game (Water Warfare) can run fluidly with players from Japan.

What's a "proper game", out of interest? Please, please don't say an FPS or similar shooter.

Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis are proper games, and happen to be very, very good on the Wii. Both are selling well, what's the problem?

I agree.. and i hate golf!

Erm, im pretty sure "proper" games like mario galaxy and smash bros sold shit loads. Also of note is "proper" games link gran slam tennis in the chart.

I only presume you're pissed that conduit (Which by all accounts looks a bit dire) didnt sell?

Why are EA sports games coming out in the Summer now?
  • Darren #16 3 years ago

I'm thinking that stevetuck is referring to the kind of games hardcore gamers want when he refers to "proper" games not the casual drivel that typically passes for a Wii game these days in eight out of ten cases. It's quite depressing when great games like Okami and Zak & Wiki get ignored by the masses because it means publishers are less likely to make them.
