UK charts: LEGO Indy back on top News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

22 July, 2008

LEGO Indiana Jones has swung back to the top of the UK all-formats top 40, beating rival movie tie-in WALL-E into second place.

Nintendo continues to dominate the chart with Wii Fit at three, Wii Play at four, Super Smash Bros. Brawl at five, Mario Kart Wii at six and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games at seven.

Battlefield: Bad Company slipped two places to eight, and is followed by Big Beach Sports at nine. Kung Fu Panda rounds the top 10 out as the third movie tie-in in the limelight.

The only new entry this week is Guitar Hero: On Tour for DS, which turns it up at 11. Series sibling Guitar Hero III is at 15 and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is at 25.

Biggest climber this week is Sports Party up from 29 to 13, whilst the biggest tumblers are The Bourne Conspiracy down from 21 to 31, and Sonic and the Secret Rings (which had a sequel announced yesterday) down from 22 to 33.

Buzz! Quiz TV falls off the list after three weeks on sale, proving my "stayer" prediction to be as wrong as Margaret Thatcher.

Here's that top 40 in full:

The LEGO Indy demo left me indifferent. I don't get the whole LEGO Indy/Star Wars/Batman thing at all. They're all average game at best, and the only thing they're good for is to be a parody of the original movies/stories in LEGO form. It's a shame that these games are so successfull, it means less time to make actual decent games within the franchises (well, apart from SW, which is screaming for a break now).

Bloody WALL-E!! My girlfriend loves that Johnny 5 rip off, the annoying little git! If I hear "waaallll-ee" one more time my head will explode :)

Seems like a decent movie tie in though.

OnlyMe: I'd consider myself a "core" gamer, and I love the Lego games. Myself and another mate have been playing through Lego Indy over the last few weekends, and we've been loving it. We're big Indiana Jones fans but a bad Indy game would still be a bad game. I will say though that I don't play the games in single player - co-op is the way to go.

Lego Indy *is* a decent Indy game though, IMO. The fact that the 360 achievements are all titled after quotes from the trilogy is just the icing on the cake. If you're a fan I'd highly recommend a rental if you can grab a friend to play through with.

True..but out of the 15 Wii games in the chart...11 of them are 3rd party and 3 of those sold higher than any 3rd party 360/PS3 titles.

Perhaps. I don't think I'll be getting it though, and rentals aren't available where I live (in Norway you can only buy, and you can't get your money back if you've broken the seal). Compared to crap games, I guess they're decent enough - but it's way overpriced. It feels more like a budget title, and I doubt they cost much to make. It should've been a cheap game. I'd probably buy it if it was priced lower, but it's a full-priced game.

OnlyMe, me and my son have been enjoying the Lego Indy/SW games in equal measures playing both single and co-op - suffice to say that he hasn't seen any of the movies yet...

Edit: It's a bit more than 40€ online.

It says a lot about how uninspiring the current releases are that CoD4 is still in the charts this long after its release. GTAIV was released mid-year and that's not held it back: I wish that other publishers would realise that gamers do still buy things during the summer. A big title at this time of year has no real opposition, but instead they all wait until Christmas, the buggers.

Any chance of a review of the Wall.E game?

Opinion seems kinda mixed from what I've heard elsewhere.
