UK charts: Force Unleashed the new star

WAR also strong. Top 40 inside.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has crushed opposition and taken top honours in the UK all-formats chart this week, in what was the biggest multi-platform launch since GTA IV.

The Xbox 360 version bossed 48 per cent of total sales, with 30 per cent falling to PS3, 15 per cent on Wii, and the remainder on PS2, PSP and DS.

Chart stalwarts Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii took two and three, thanks to renewed stock, which helped them fend off the other top 10 newcomer Warhammer Online at four.

The rest was a familiar picture: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 at five, last week's leader Mercenaries 2 at 6, Wii Play up to 7, Carnival: Funfair Games at 8 and TNA iMPACT at 9.

Spore, the fourth EA title in the top flight, rounded out the list at 10.

Further down, Crysis Warhead made its debut at 21, just ahead of a resurgent Too Human up from 38 to 22.

The pack shuffled rather a lot this week, with a handful of past chart faces such as Need For Speed and LEGO Star Wars reappearing.

This means waving goodbye to Soulcalibur IV, Viva Piñata 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Believe the reviews 'SWTFU' is as shit as they say.. but I guess I found out too late, just like all the other twats that bought it. Still, should get a good trade in for Brothers in Arms (crosses fingers that it doesn't suck and blow as well!!)

I imagine Too Human is surging because I saw it being sold at £20 new everywhere yesterday.

WAR is totally badass, I think I will go play it right now XD

I dared to hope this might be the first decent SW game in a while (well, except Lego Star Wars that is), but I'm glad I waited until I could play the demo. Fun for about 5 minutes, then dull & repetitive - pass.

This game is so obviously jabbing the 'teenage boy power trip' button with all its might, it has none of the character of the old Jedi Knight games (or KOTOR). Flashy powers and 'dark' story tones do not make an engaging universe.

It's so depressing to see the SW universe descend into such mediocrity.

I'm actually enjoying Star Wars, then again I didn't fork out £40 for it I'm just playing it for an hour or so in work every day.
I will be forking out for Pure this week though, as long as it holds up it should be fantastic online, and the demo impressed me a lot.

When are these brain training games gonna disappear? They've got some sort of deathgrip on the charts...
  • LazyDan #13 3 years ago

Glad Mario Kart's still getting love. People dismiss it because it's 'just another Mario Kart' but those people are missing one of the best games of the year. Sega could learn a thing or two from this franchise when it comes to remembering "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

"When are these brain training games gonna disappear? They've got some sort of deathgrip on the charts... "

Its just 'cos lots of people are buying them who are outside the normal games buying demographic. Its no bad thing really. Its more money into the industry, which is a good thing for all of us.

LazyDan: I'm sure that it will be awesome but after having played the same game countless times, it rather leaves me cold.

My gf won't be happy about the Pinatas dropping out of the charts so soon - that lowers the chances of a sequel. She's not stopped playing VP2 - I've hardly had a chance to get on the TV myself!
  • Dizzy #17 3 years ago

"My gf won't be happy about the Pinatas dropping out of the charts so soon - that lowers the chances of a sequel."

Rare has said they are going to leave VP for a while now. So don't expect any sequels for a few years at least.
  • menage #18 3 years ago

    @Doctor What

Same problem here. MY GF is totally hooked on the little critters.

A damn shame the game doesn't sell, blame MS's lousy marketing and approach. It's not like people aren't interested in different stuff, just look at Spore.

I imagine Too Human is surging because I saw it being sold at £20 new everywhere yesterday.

or, it might be because people are ignoring the totally, TOTALLY BULLSHIT reviews, and listening to people that actually PLAYED the game, rather than half assed, dickhead game reviewers, or dick head forumites and checking it out

    96 hours played so far

Too Human keeps plucking away... have to admire its pluck. Too human was the latest game to show just how useless online games reviews are, especially concerning lengthy modern games with depth. It would appear that half the time reviewers rush to the end sequence and immediately stop. Eurogamer are the most guilty... Dark sector and Too Human got trounced on here and the reviewer missed glaringly obvious game assets.... after purchasing Dark Sector i was surprised to find it had Bots in its multipolayer..... should i have been?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Nintendo's approach to the Wii Mario Kart was "It's been slightly broken since Double Dash, let's break it some more!"

Their approach to the new tracks was to put as many hazards in as possible to try and make them interesting rather than any notion of good simple design. The new weapons are even more irritating and non-skilled based than the blue shell, punishing good drivers at the head of the pack (particularly the POW block). Don't get me started on the inclusion of bikes!

The only good addition was an online mode that's more user friendly than the DS one and changing the power sliding boosts to stop snaking, but with the above flaws its too little to make it any good. Plus it's another Wii game that shows the motion controls up by being much more playable using the Gamecube controller!

In summary I don't rate it.

Personally i am loving star wars unleashed!

im on the last fight now. yes its repetitive and yes its not as good as it could have been.

but it is great fun...and addictive i find. hardcore star wars fans will not like it at all because they want too much but i am not a big star wars fan and as a quick game to play while we wait for the big titles its pretty good.

    P.S. roll on Mirror's Edge
  • BoffBoff #23 3 years ago

Glad to see Too Human standing proud (and it's the only 360 exclusive on that list.)

And if you see it for £20, grab it. Absolute bargain.
  • RexRunti #24 3 years ago

SWTFU is crap but it's very enjoyable crap, just restarted on Sith Master difficulty. Yes it's repetative but for some reason electricuting a Jawa, impailing it with a lightsaber and tossing it into a laser barrier doesn't seem to get old. It also has a good plot -better than phatom menace!!!! ;p
  • captainrentboy #25 3 years ago

    I just enjoy tossing Wookies...
  • septimus #26 3 years ago

First George Lucas rapes my childhood, and uses Jar Jar Binks to do it. Then he passes the story line for Force Unleashed so he can kick the shit out of what little is left of the canon. The ending is pissing hideous also.

The game is quite good fun but frustrating (though some bits make me want to punch babies, fucking snipers and Proxy... Proxy/Maul ...Wtf.l.). Plus you never feel that powerful a Sith/Jedi apart from the beginning bit with Vader, which doesn't make sense because...

I don't think Darth Vader is all he is cracked up to be. He gets the his ass handed to him in every major fight. Pussy.

Quick question, anyone got the PSP version of the Force unleashed?

Appparently it has some different modes and has gotten some decent reviews

I'm going away soon and would like to get something for the PSP having finished both GOW and Crisis Core recently

  • xexuxjy #28 3 years ago

Having read the penny arcade review on this where it basically said the game is enjoyable if you can watch it rather then play it I wandered over to you tube and watched all the cutscenes instead. Quite enjoyable and an interesting twist to things.
Oh and I'm enjoying too human as well :)
  • makeamazing #29 3 years ago

SW is not bad, its simple but my son really likes it and is having fun with it..

I also am amazed that people are still wanting to get Mario Racing... surprised that people havent moved onto something else... but then perhaps there isnt much to move on to.. I dont go cold on games quick, but after a while you forget about them and something else catches your eye!
