UK charts: FIFA World Cup remains top

Sin and Punishment 2 falters.

A poor week for new releases sees few new entries in the UK all-formats chart, but then displacing EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa this close to the real-life sporting event was always going to be a tall task, and the EA game remains number one.

Just Dance is just behind, followed by Modern Warfare 2, Wii Fit Plus and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. That's the first time Infinity Ward's shooter has overtaken DICE's creation in recent weeks, perhaps buoyed by PC and PS3 advertising for the Stimulus Package downloadable content.

Super Street Fighter IV staggered to sixth, tailed by Wii Sports Resort, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City. Just Cause 2 rounded out top 10.

Last week's headline new release Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies missed the big-time and finished 11th on the Wii chart.

    That is a shame about Sin and Punishment 2. I shall pick that game up. Purely on the recommendation of Eurogamer. And because I haven't actually played my Wii in over 10 months.
  • youhavenomail #2 2 years ago

    We used to moan about not getting games like Sin & Punishment released over here.
  • RobotRocker #3 2 years ago

    GAME also dropped Modern Warfare 2 to £25 recently so that could explain why it has got a boost over Bad Company 2

    Shame about S&P 2 though. The unfortunate thing is that now everything gets released here (Except Deadly Premonition. Zach says SORT IT OUT) it all gets drowned out by the rest of the noise on the market.

    So the hardcore Wii owners who constantly whine about no quality hardcore games..

    ...didn't buy Dead Space, didn't buy Silent Hill, didn't buy Red steel 2, didn't buy Monster Hunter 3..and now didn't buy Sin and Punishment 2 .

    Buy them or shut up.

    Shame about Sin and Punishment, I've only seen TV adverts for it on VIVA and The Box though, not sure how many 13-year-old girls it appeals to.

    Monster Hunter Tri came out a couple of weeks ago and is one of the best games for the Wii. You need not have waited until S&P2 to switch it on again.
  • menage #7 2 years ago

    Like S&P really isn't a niche hardcore title. Did anyone really expect anything else.

    @Cid

    Not to mention all the other great games that have come out in the last year. No wonder they don't sell.

    I wish Just Dance would Just Die!

    In fact, that's quite a good title for a game, I think I'll trademark it. ;)

    Just Die!™

    Shame but obvious IKaruga didn't sell either not on the Dreamcast and not on the Gamecube. But treasure wont mind one little bit they will still be proud of their gem and they will care more for critical acclaim than sales. It's just the treasure way. Rock on Treasure

    PS monster hunter is still doing well and will continue in the top 40 for at least two more weeks I reckon after which it will still notch up sales so the future is bright

    I went to buy S and P at my local independant game shop yesterday (seeing as I also have not played my wii in 10 months ). The man behind the counter had never heard of it( way to know your job)!
    And as they didn't have a copy, it must have been put back on the release schedule...?!???!
    I could have moved them up the charts!!

    /off to asda for s p2

    @CallousB

    Monster Hunter 3 Tri did actually sell well (no doubt due to the heavy advertising that played its part), but I can't really disagree with the other games that you have mentioned.

    Whilst Nintendo should be commended for releasing the sequel, I kind of wish they did more to advertise it. I was speaking to a work colleague (who bought Monster Hunter 3 Tri) about how good Sin and Punishment 2 was from playing it over the weekend, and he was somewhat surprised it was already released, as he did not know it was available in the shops.

    Was it similar to Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3, in which it didn't sell well either?
  • Incarta #13 2 years ago

    I bought it. It's great. £30 on amazon. No excuses people.
  • SomaticSense #14 2 years ago

    So, even with blanket advertising, an awesome hardcore Wii game still fails to sell anything approaching a decent amount. Fair enough, it is a niche genre, even for a hardcore game, but it's still fucking depressing.

    Not helping this depression, is the fact that Modern Warfare is still selling shitloads more than six months after release, and even more than the frankly amazing and newly released SSFIV, which is more than half the price if you shop around.

    Excuse me, while I go and tie the noose...

    Have there been any advertisements for WarioWare: D.I.Y.

    Disappointing entry at 24.

    Blanket advertising? I've seen zero advertising. I saw tons of Monster Hunter Tri adverts so one can only conclude, sadly;

    Game sales = Amount of Advertising + Hype
  • secombe #17 2 years ago

    Haven't seen S&P2 physically in any store yet, went to two Game stores within 200 yards of each and neither had it.
  • malexous #18 2 years ago

    You can see why 'hardcore' games on Wii can have trouble selling. Many of them have more than one of these characteristics:

    little/no copies in store (S&P is not the first), niche, no/little advertising, new I.P. port, spin-off, same genre as many other games (no one wants another on-rails!!!), out-sourced to a B team, little money invested, etc.
  • Vice.Destroyer #19 2 years ago

    I should also say that I am aware of all of the good Wii games that have appeared over the last 10 months. I just haven't had the inclination to buy them, as my to play pile is starting to grow to unacceptable levels. The only way I will be able to do justice to this pile is to be unemployed for the next 10 months.

    Minimum.

    re: Warioware DIY - I've seen a TV ad for it so there is some advertising happening.
  • malexous #21 2 years ago

    @Vice.Destroyer

    That's understandable. Sorry for jumping to conclusions. Too many people just ignore that they exist (especially when they don't appeal to them).

    @UGhost

    Good to hear, thanks.

    Kinda hard for a game to sell when nowhere seems to be stocking it.I went to 4 different shops(including Game and Gamestop)on release day and not one of them had S&P 2 in stock.Judging by some of the other comments the shops in my town aren't the only ones that didn't get it in
  • AllenSpawn #23 2 years ago

    My local asda had the game. ( it was number 5 in their chart).
    Got to say it is a quality game, and well worth seeking out!

    Gah! Tri is falling fast!
