UK charts: BioShock 2 unseats ME2

2K Games' big-hitting sequel BioShock 2 has stamped to the top of the UK all-formats top 40.

Last week's leader Mass Effect 2 dropped to eighth.
Just Dance held poise in second, FIFA 10 stretched to third and Modern Warfare 2 was nudged to fourth. Wii trio Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit Plus followed.
Dante's Inferno was in ninth, and the top 10 was rounded off by Bayonetta, which leapt deftly from 36th into 10th.
This week's other newcomers - Star Ocean: The Last Hope (PS3) and Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll (Wii) - entered their platform-specific charts at 11th and 19th respectively.

Glad it beat the crap Dante at least. Biggest money waste since Brutal Legend

Is it wrong that I'm curious what this mysterious feeeg said? His post has gone.

Bayonetta is £17.99 at most places already.
I'll snap up Darksiders once it hits that sort of price range, because I'm a cheap bastard.

MS should bundle it and keep the momentum going. Such a classic does not deserve to go out yet.

While its gameplay tweaks are all for the better, the story is a gigantic, uninteresting and for the most part, unresolved mess. The voice acting from the main protagonists is awful. Bioshock le originals success was mostly (for me) down to the incredible voice acting. Every character (Audio log only characters included) was well performed and well written enough to suspend my disbelief and encourage me to find more logs to unravel Rapture and progress the story.
In BS2 I eventually found myself picking up diaries without listening to them, such convoluted, poorly acted claptrap that they were. There is only one that stands out as being of the quality of the original game and that is Fontaine becoming Atlas. If the Voiceover Director was the same one as the first game, he should be disgusted in himself for obviously falling asleep during the recording session.
Christ, in a complete reversal of my expectations, the MP is superior in atmosphere and feel to the SP.
I was cautiously anticipating this since its announcement, as I was of the 'BS doesn't need no sequel!' school of thought, but gave in at the promise of returning to Rapture with improved gameplay. And although the game mechanics have indeed improved greatly, somebody at 2K thought it wise to test the "room full of monkeys with a typewriter" theory.

Dunno, I'm enjoying it immensely, and I'm digging the whole story thing actually.
Gamplay wise it's certainly a different breed than BS1, 1 felt more survival horror at times, this is just a riot shooter, but with less tension I'm actually having more fun actually playing it. Only thing dissapointing is the graphics which haven't improved much at all, but they were decent to start with.

I'm a little sorry for Mass Effect, thought it would stay up there a while. ME2, combined with ME1 is the best experience I've had with a video game, ever. Bioshock 2 starts slow (slooooow) but picks up the pace and ends beautifully.

It's over a year old and has been cheap for quite a while now. Why the sudden surge? "
Presumably the fact that GT5 has suffered its umpteenth delay has lead to people looking elsewhere for their sim-racing fix in the meantime.

Yah, I saw that slip-up too and decided to assume he meant Take Two rather than 2K.

I for sure delayed purchase and will wait for the GOTY edition with all the DLC included in 1-2 years...

I'll be playing ME3 by then.

Because, for them, it was. I really don't know how to explain it in another way. Having connected with the character in the first and having imported it to the second, it's really a saga, like reading a really good book where you also get to shoot people in the head or stab them in the back.
I am fully aware of the issues other might have had with ME2 (planet scanning mini-game, the lite RPG system from the first has been removed almost completely, etc) but it still was the best gaming experience I've ever had because the game connected on a personal level.
As for it not having the open world of Fallout, I guess nobody really expected ME2 to have it.
