UK chart: Smash Bros. still victorious News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

8 July, 2008

There's little change at the top of the UK all-formats chart this week, as Super Smash Bros. Brawl continues to fight off opposition from Battlefield: Bad Company at two and LEGO: Indiana Jones at three.

Below them is a slew of sports games gaining popularity what with all the Olympics, tennis and general trend towards health and fitness. Salads in McDonald's indeed.

There's Big Beach Sports at four, Beijing 2008 at five, Top Spin 3 at six, Wii Fit at seven, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics at eight, and Wii Play at nine.

Rounding the list off at 10 was a five-place jump for The Bourne Conspiracy. Big-hitters Grand Theft Auto IV, Mario Kart Wii and Metal Gear Solid 4 all fell from the top flight to 13, 14, and 15, respectively.

New entries were rather scarce this week. The highest was a re-entry for Unreal Tournament III at 18 thanks to the just released Xbox 360 version.

Meanwhile, Buzz! Quiz TV only managed to debut at 22. A disappointing start perhaps, but it's likely to be a stayer.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon duo, Explorers of Time/Darkness, managed also failed to hit high - reaching 30 and 35, respectively.

The biggest climber this week was movie tie-in Kung Fu Panda up from 40 to 16, while those doing the tumbling were Alone in the Dark down 17 to 29, and Civilization Revolution down from 24 to 36.

Here's that list in full:

I refuse to believe Wii fit is in the top 10.

There are none, NONE in the world, anywhere, to buy. There's doubly none in the UK, no make that tripply none.

None I tells ya, and I got pork fat that needs shifting, stat.

Wii Fit's at #4 in the top ten individual formats chart, too. Nintendo's doing really well in the UK, and Europe as a whole, at the moment.

I've played 10 games in that chart and only want to play three more. SSBB, Civ Rev and New Mario Bros.

Wow, what disappointing showings for Buzz! TV Quiz at 22 and Civilization Revolution at 36! I really thought both would do better...

It's no wonder Mario Kart Wii is out of the chart, considering you can't bloody buy it on the High Street! It's been out of stock in Reading for at least two weeks!
