UK chart: Killzone 2 beats Halo Wars

Sony's first number one since GOWII.

Killzone 2 has sealed Sony's first UK All-Formats number one since God of War II's release nearly two years ago, becoming the fourth-fastest-selling Sony-published game ever in the UK.

The only PS3 game to have sold in greater quantity in week one is last year's Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and the weight of expectation was ultimately enough to consign Microsoft's Halo Wars, also released last Friday, to second place.

Still, that's mighty impressive for a console real-time strategy game, and data compiler Chart-Track notes that its performance outdoes the next-best-performing console RTS in UK history - Command & Conquer 3 on Xbox 360 - by a margin of nearly three to one.

Behind the frontrunners, Street Fighter IV sales drop off 49 per cent, but it still does well enough to hold at three, above Wii Fit, a resurgent Professor Layton at five (new stock, apparently), and an otherwise-predictable top ten.

Elsewhere, other big movers this week include Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, which drops from third all the way down to 18, while RACE Pro reverses from 13 to 27, and, perhaps aided by the marketing blitz surrounding Halo Wars, little old Halo 3 sneaks back into the top 40 at number 39.

As expected! But strange that GT5P sold better.. it was cheaper of course, but still.
  • DFawkes #2 3 years ago

I think it's a miracle that a console RTS did that well, even with the Halo name. It is a great game though.
Now, should we be hunting down those buying Carnival still?
  • Lutz #3 3 years ago

I'm quite shocked; I honestly thought that in the short term Halo Wars would do better, but long temr Killzone would sell more.

Quite impressed with the MegaDrive collection doing so well too.
  • NotSoSlim #4 3 years ago

Now imagine what GT5 will do whenever they release it.....
  • rarebit #5 3 years ago

i wonder how heavy rain will do?
  • evild_edd #6 3 years ago

Good to see some proper games topping the charts (you really can stick those f*ckin' Wii/DS 'lifestyle' titles where the sun don't shine IMHO).

Feel a bit bad that I didn't buy Halo Wars, but the demo actually put me off. Perhaps I should give it another go....?
  • matrim83 #7 3 years ago

I am surprised Halo wars managed no 2. I didnt know there were many RTS fans on consoles.
  • kangarootoo #8 3 years ago

@i wonder how heavy rain will do?

Not as well would be my guess. Killzone 2 is very firmly planted right in the middle of the hardcore gaming demographic, whereas Heavy Rain seems a bit left of centre to me. I'm sure it will sell well, but its probably grabbing the interest of so many as the build up to KZ2 did.
  • HuggyAtHome #9 3 years ago

Bought KZ2 on release date - played for an evening and got a bit bored to be honest. The audio over multiplayer is shocking too. If Sony could get the online service improved it would be so much better.

Maybe I need to give it another blast
  • Moz #10 3 years ago

@matrim83 there are plenty of RTS fans with consoles, but generally they choose to RTS on PC cos they just work better.

However Halo Wars was developed with consoles in mind making it the best console RTS, which for those of us who prefer the confort of the sofa makes Halo Wars incredibly welcome.

Will be interesting to see how the 2 games place in the american charts given the greater lead of the 360 over PS3.
  • Doctor_What #11 3 years ago

Heavy Rain will probably sell well over its lifetime but I'd be surprised if it even makes the top three on its first week of release.

The seriousness of Killzone 2 has really put me off it - more bloody grunting space marines? Nah, I'll pass for the moment thanks. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but I'm not in any great hurry. It did inspire me to finally go and pick up Resistance 2. Mindless run and gun is more fun in my books than punishing solemnity and I loved Resistance 1.
  • Cloudane #12 3 years ago

I congratulate the position Halo Wars reached but just how many people must have walked into a shop and thought, 'oh, a new Halo game - I'll have some of that!' without realising that it is in fact a RTS game, not the Halo 'Wars' the game suggests.

On the other hand, Killzone 2 more or less deserve the number one position, no doubt about that.
  • septimus #13 3 years ago

A deserved first place. Really enjoying the game. Makes such a difference to play a FPS with so much weight in the movement. Feels very different to play over most FPS's. Pretty challenging on Veteran and above also. Multiplayer needs fixing though, it takes too long to rank.

Think I'll get Halo Wars during a discount period or something. Consoles RTSs never seem great.
  • penhalion #14 3 years ago

People are rightly fed up with Halo this and Halo that so I think KZ2 got a much deserved first place. I picked it up on Friday and gave Halo Wars a wide berth. That particular franchise needs some rest, much like the Chief at the end of Halo 3. Who knows, with any luck the remaining half of that ship will crash onto that inhabited planet in about two years. The I think I may be ready to continue the fight anew.

As for KZ2. It stands proudly (if somewhat generically) on it's own merits. KZ3 will need a better story, now that the tech has been proven. Maybe add some genuine aliens next time around and loose the sci-fi cliche of cloaking snipers please!
  • Darren #15 3 years ago

I'm pleased to see Professor Layton and the Curious Village still doing well. I bought it for my mum as an early Mother's Day present and having played it briefly myself it's really excellent and almost makes me want a DS of my own. The story, puzzles, visuals, audio, presentation, everything is top-notch, I was really impressed.

So was my mum, so much so that she was addicted to it for four days until she completed it. Although she still has some stuff left to do, she is eagerly awaiting the follow-up, the Devil's Box. Any one know when it's out?
  • stepneg #16 3 years ago

I finally picked up a PS3 mainly for Killzone and it's tops, not got far into it yet but loving it so far.
  • mcbi4kh2 #17 3 years ago

I take it you have never played Warhawk then? I think 700 hours is the quickest legitimate General.

"Multiplayer needs fixing though, it takes too long to rank."

You're not serious, are you? Even leaving out the people who abused bots for easy leveling before they were disabled in online matches on one of the first days, there's already a ton of people who have reached the highest rank (although they have not necessarily unlocked all the skill badges of course).
I'm a little over a third of the way through the ranks myself after 13 hours online, but I'm mediocre FPS player at best (actually I'm probably well short of that :)), so I can't see it taking much more than around 15-20 hours - or less - for decent players to reach the rank of General.

Anyway, I've only bothered with the first 45 minutes of the singleplayer campaign but KZ2 is definitely the most exciting online shooter I've played.
  • miiiguel #19 3 years ago

@ penhalion: you might be, but saying ppl are... don't know, read the article above this one. Regarding Halo Wars vs Killzone, I wonder if a RTS Killzone spin-off would sell better than a FPS Halo.
  • alimokrane #20 3 years ago

God... damn Chart Track, why cant we have numbers :(

Anyways, excellent news for Killzone and Halo Wars.
  • Darren #21 3 years ago

@farticusmaximus - That generic dullfest as you call it has actually been getting better review scores than Halo Wars though, not that means much when they're totally different genres.

Bah! Slightly flawed are words I've seen used to describe Killzone 2, and "a few steps short of a classic" are others, but nowhere have I heard the game described as a dull. That sounds like you haven't even played it or perhaps don't even like FPSs. Killzone 2... dull? NEVER!!! ;)

I'm going to pick up Halo Wars at lunchtime as I've got a ton of old 360 games I want rid of but personally I'm finding Killzone 2 so far to be a far more enjoyable, exciting, gritty and downright visceral game than Halo 3 ever was as I thought that was a disappointment. And at least Killzone 2 isn't as dull as Resistance 2. I'm very happy with the game, it exceeded my expectations anyway, and think it's the best FPS I've played on a console yet even if it doesn't quite meausre up to the mighty Crysis on the PC.
  • Lutz #22 3 years ago

Halo 3 will be back in the charts thanks mainly to the Ltd Ed of Halo Wars having the Mythic maps for it.
  • Xerx3s #23 3 years ago

Good to see that halo wars is doing so well, it's a good game and maybe MGS will scratch their head at killing off ensemble. :/
  • zuljin #24 3 years ago

    @septimus
Ranked up in 10 hours. Really doesn't take long, and its not supposed to take long either. The game is much more fun when all the classes are available to everyone.
  • Xerx3s #25 3 years ago

Darren: I don't know if the game is dull or not and I don't know which game 'deserves' which spot but if there is one thing that KZ2 fails at it's controls, something direly brushed under the carpet with those reviews. Since controls are what defines a good FPS game, those reviews are questionable (but then so are most reviews I read these days).

"People are rightly fed up with Halo this and Halo that so I think KZ2 got a much deserved first place."

Do you know how bitter you fuckers sound when you say this. It's 3 games and a recent spin off over the span of two consoles!!

I would list a bunch of other franchises that have been raped far more thoroughly, but it would be far too easy and frankly, quite pathetic.

    Just give it a rest.

...and for the record I've pretty much never played a Halo game.
  • miiiguel #27 3 years ago

@ SpaceMidget75 : That's a first, usually the most verbal/vocal (and the ooooh I'm so clever I bash Halo) dudes never played Halo either. Kudos to you, sir.
  • mcbi4kh2 #28 3 years ago

    @spacemidget75

do you own both consoles aswell...
  • JHuxley #29 3 years ago

"I found it dull because I've already played CoD4"

If you play KZ2 like COD4 you fail.
  • Darren #30 3 years ago

@Xerx3s - Well I thought the controls were a bit off in the demo and it didn't help that I don't think the PS3's dualshock controller is particularly suited to FPSs anyway, thanks to the rather loose analogue sticks. However, from playing the full game for some time with slightly tweaked settings I now have no issue with them at all and think they work fine considering the controller limitations. Besides I think this game gives the weapons a sense of weight, something that is not effectively conveyed in most other games.

For example, in Call of Duty they might as well be made of Balsa wood for all the weight they seem to have! Yeah, I know a game doesn't have to be realistic to be good but I think Guerilla were aiming for a more realistic, slower paced game with Killzone 2 and they've pulled it off well IMO.

Also it's terrific that Killzone 2 allows you to take cover and lean out of it, something 98% of FPSs on the consoles don't have. Medal of Honor: Airborne used it very well too so I can't understand why more FPSs don't use it. It adds more tactical options to the game and makes them just that bit more realistic since you wouldn't stand in the open and shoot enemies for real... not unless you have a death-wish anyway.

Killzone 2 isn't the best game I've ever played but it's a damn impressive FPS IMO, more so when I consider how utterly mediocre the PS2 original was. I honestly expected it would be awful, another case of graphics over gameplay but fortunately I've been proved wrong as the gameplay is every bit as good as those lush visuals. It deserves the top spot, I say.
  • Thunderbolt #31 3 years ago

Did anyone really expect Halo Wars to beat Killzone?

I mean Halo Wars was never as hyped as must-have game and rightly so as it will only be suitable to a particular market.

I'm enjoying it at the moment so much that Johnny and the Lost is being neglicated however I fear that it may get a bit tedious after a while.
  • SpaceMidget75 Verified Senior Software Developer, Minerva Computer Services #32 3 years ago

    "@spacemidget75

do you own both consoles aswell... "

    No, why?
  • Triggerhappytel #33 3 years ago

Good sales for both Halo Wars and Killzone 2, however I expect they'll both drop down the charts fairly swiftly as most of the hardcore sales will be done within two or three weeks (if not sooner).
  • Xerx3s #34 3 years ago

Rapido!: Actually, I have played it, just not enough to make an argument for or against the storyline. I have played it enough to know that the controls are far to much not to my liking. But a presumptuous, unnecessary abusive twit like yourself wouldn't care for that.
  • Xerx3s #35 3 years ago

JHuxley: Not that COD4 is a shining beacon of SP goodness mind you.
  • RESIDENT_nEVILe #36 3 years ago

Congrats to Guerilla Games, well deserved.

I can't wait until they start pimping out the engine to other devs.

It could mark a clear increase in the polish of some PS3 exclusives.
  • Les #37 3 years ago

"For example, in Call of Duty they might as well be made of Balsa wood for all the weight they seem to have! Yeah, I know a game doesn't have to be realistic to be good but I think Guerilla were aiming for a more realistic, slower paced game with Killzone 2 and they've pulled it off well IMO."

Haven't played 2 yet but they already pulled that off with the first game. Probably why it wasn't really appreciated by the pubic looking for a Halo-beater (and of course the graphics engine struggled quite a bit though it was definitely playable). They both involve shooting in a sci-fi setting but that's pretty much where similarities end.
  • penhalion #38 3 years ago

Had to laugh at the defenders of Halo convention that seems to have sprung up all of a sudden.

People are playing the multi-player of halo 3, not the game proper. It is also clear that a lot of people are simply getting fed up of the contsant Halo spin offs. This OTD thing for instance, isn't being that well recieved, even by the Halo community itself.

Anyhoo, KZ2 is a great game. The story needs work but, it's not a dull shooter by any means.

    @farticusmaximus

You got some sales figures to back up that claim that Halo 3 is somehow still selling like hotcakes?
  • SpaceMidget75 Verified Senior Software Developer, Minerva Computer Services #39 3 years ago

I'm not defending Halo, but you going on about how tired people are after only 3 FPSs and 1 RTS game in over 8 years makes you an idiot. Fact.
  • Vic #40 3 years ago

Glad Guerilla have a #1 on thier hands. I heard the game had 1.1m pre-orders in Europe alone. A well deserved result for Killzone.

Technically this game is well ahead of anything on consoles - the later levels look absolutely phenomenal.
  • Les #41 3 years ago

"The most generic game ever tops the best selling list."

This probably is just flame bait but why exactly is an FPS that is slower paced than any other FPS and finally introduces a very nice cover mechanic to the FPS genre 'the most generic game ever'? Just wondering.

Savour it as it won't last more than a week.

A[link url=http://www....]http://www....[/link] you poor sad bitter little man. Don't be a fanboy.

"try and be a bit unbiased ok?"
Those words and your mouth do not go together well.

    Pot, meet kettle.

What you meant to say was you like the art style. Technically Gears is every bit as competent.

In your opinion. Which is based on an irrational hatred of Sony and, by your own admission, playing the demo for little while at a mates house.

the controls need to be patched. The deadzone and acceleration are wrong, plain and simple. It's easy enough to fix though.

In your opinion. Again. See above. Seriously, if you use them for a while you get used to them. It annoyed me to start off that Soul Edge had a seperate block button rather that just allowing you to hold back. Not having a jump button on GOW annoyed me to start off with. It becomes a non issue if you stick with it.

    The weapons, predicatable setpieces...

Uh huh. And how much of the game have you played through to come to this conclusion?
  • VicViper #43 3 years ago

As much as I hate to agree with farticus, ugh like drinking acid, the controls need sorting out, I should not have to turn like a super tanker in a swamp.

Having finished Killzone 2, yeah some of the levels might be incredibly epic but most have been done before. In some cases the pacing of COD4 shines a bit better here

Still thought it was awsome, need to get into the MP but SFIV is calling and I need to get back into Disgaea 3

@penhalion - "It is also clear that a lot of people are simply getting fed up of the constant Halo spin offs."

Eh? So far Halo Wars is the first of the Halo spin-offs you're referring to and Halo 3: ODST is some months away so I really don't see where this "fed up" comment is coming from, especially as Halo Wars has only been out a few days! Have I somehow missed Halo Racer, Halo Effect and Halo Sports? ;)

Actually, thinking about it, a Halo game in the style of Mass Effect would be absolutely awesome I think...
  • Darren #45 3 years ago

CountFapula - "You would recognise Marcus Fenix instantly, if you saw a picture of him."

Really? You don't mean you'd recognise him from playing the first game or having seen the dozens of adverts featuring him because you were maybe interested in the game in the first place? I doubt most people outside of the core gamers would know who he was at all, he's not exactly as familiar to non-gamers as Mario or Sonic for example.

As for Gears of War, yes the visuals are stunning technically but this is a game that features generic musclebound space marines in a war-torn city, it's not exactly reinvented the genre and it certainly isn't original either. It borrows visual elements from many other games, including the decade old Unreal Tournament series from the PC as it is by the same developers, and movies, including Aliens and Starship Troopers. Epic just made it greyer that's all.
  • Widge #46 3 years ago

Well I personally think if Halo Wars can spearhead a few more RTS's appearing on consoles, then all the better. I like the fact that with the new consoles, we've seen a bit more variety creeping back in (across discs and downloads).
  • Les #47 3 years ago

"The plot is as generic a fps game as you can get."

Might very well be. But then again, apart from Half Life, are there any shooters with a decent story? And maybe more important: Is it necessary? For me, plots in games are hygiene factors: Only if they're really bad they annoy but they have a limited upside.

"art direction - have you honestly seen more generic art? It looks like 90% of other games art direction all mashed together."

Funny that you mention that. Art direction for part 1 was very good as well as original and they've built on that for part 2. The fact that few people played the first game can't really be held against it. It is a shame though that they Epic-ised the characters a bit.

"Gears 2 also looks better from an artistic standpoint.

That one made me laugh and reminds me of how subjective arguments about artistic taste are. I personally can't think of any games that I would think are more ugly from an artistic POV than the crap* Epic puts out. :)

    * With crap I mean their artistic output

could it be - and i'm going out on a bit of a limb here - that neither GOW2 or KZ2 feature particularly memorable art direction or characters? i have 'fond' memories of the GOW1's "cole train" - oh it's him again! what a great character, do you know, i don't think he says enough when we're fighting, i wish there was more.

    i'm playing persona 3 - now there's a game i can get behind.
  • Gecks #49 3 years ago

    @Les
FPS with a decent story = system shock 2. possibly a contender for the best delivered plot in a game EVAR, in fact. no-one played it, of course, so they stuck it underwater, removed all the good bits, made shodan irish, and called it 'bioshock'.
    Edited by 1 at 03/03/09 @ 15:26
  • Darren #50 3 years ago

Arguing about which game is artistically better is ultimately pointless as that it purely down to personal taste. For example, I personally do not like the artwork in Street Fighter IV, I think it looks ugly with bizarre-looking faces on many of the fighters.

Technically, both Gears of War 2 and Killzone 2 are outstanding, I don't think anyone reasonably sound of mind could honestly say they weren't, regardless of whether you think the art design is generic or whatever. Both games may full use of their respective hardware and set the benchmark for future games to measure up to on their host systems.

Personally, I think Killzone 2 is the best looking console game so far this generation with the best representation of a ravaged war-torn city I've seen yet and some truly stunning lighting. But it's not perfect, no sirree, there are some unslightly jaggies here and there and fellow squad-mates have an alarming tendency to run through you which does kind of take me out of the game but overall it's every bit as impressive as that much-ridiculed E3 2005 trailer suggested it would be. More importantly though, the game itself turned out to be great too. Kudos to Guerilla.
  • Les #51 3 years ago

"FPS with a decent story = system shock 2."

Never played that one so I can't agree nor disagree. I do think that BioShock was nonsense story-wise though. Its failings were pretty apparent after only playing the demo (which I thought was awful). And though they jumped through some clever hoops in making gameplay consistent with the story, IMO it lead to a very contrived and unconvincing whole.

and fellow squad-mates have an alarming tendency to run through you which does kind of take me out of the game

And block door ways, walk infront of you while your shooting, never go for cover but scream about being under heavy fire, take ages to do the thing that progress the level or not at all in one case (I didn't kill the one sentry bot I couldn't find but could hear had to restart that section at the end of the refinery after graza gets shot three times)

Will squad A.I. every be good?
  • Les #53 3 years ago

"Will squad A.I. every be good?"

No, not as long as games only get more complex. ;)
  • Vic #54 3 years ago

The whole point of Killzone 2 art direction is to depict the harsh, decrepit world that is Heghan. It blows every other console game away in terms of graphics. Supporters of other consoles just arent willing to admit it has some amazing technology behind it.

    Top game aswell.

Darren: "I'm finding Killzone 2 so far to be a far more enjoyable, exciting, gritty and downright visceral game than Halo 3 ever was as I thought that was a disappointment."

Darren sadly put my on ignore (lol), but his typical anti Halo 3 comments are the very reason I bashed him in the 1st place. He claimed I was the fool, yet here we are again. :D

Anyway, no Wii games at #1. Woooo!!!!!! The world is right, if only for 1 week.
  • EvilBob_leeds #58 3 years ago

Ahh... System Shock 2. An outstanding game. For anyone who missed out on it first time around, it is now abandonware (the company who made it went bust) and hence readily available legally on the net. It's a brilliant RPG / FPS hybrid, with a really awesome plot, and it ran OK on a PII 400 with 64MB Ram, so unless your PC is 10 years old, it should run pretty damn well on whatever hardware you have. Give it a go!

I don't think it's necessarily fair to level that criticism at the control method either. The control method is going to be purposely made that way, ultimately there will be a little bit of code for the deadzone which says if (r3.x < 20) {don't do anything} - it's not as if it works that way because of a bug or the limitations of the hardware. My point is that the heavy, non twitch controls are a design choice, much the same as the block mechanic in Soul Edge, and the longer you play the game, the more that choice makes sence.
  • Vic #59 3 years ago

There you have it. CountFapula is right, EVERYONE (bar farticus) else is wrong.

"Not to mention, I'm willing to bet all the gamers praising this are (majority anyway) sony loving , single platform drones who have been starved of any decent gaming for so long they can no longer tell what is good and what is not.

Come back to me when it sells as many units as Gears of War 2, mmk?"

See, you just couldnt resist could you? The Heavy Rain comment was designed as a smokescreen. Oh, and you may not realise, but the majority of gamers own just one platform.

And I'm not sure what Gears' sales have to do with Killzone's graphics...oh wait, you're a Gears fanboy - talk about see-through.

What is it about Killzone that attracts so many Xbots?
  • Vic #60 3 years ago

    Gears' 2 metacritic is 93, Killzone 2's 91.

    Well done there.

And Killzone is selling by the bucketload. You might not like it, but it had over a million pre-orders in Europe. Decent fan support no?

Oh, and you didnt answer my question, have you played Killzone 2 all the way through? I probably shouldnt even bother asking, as you probably spent the weekend creaming off to Gears'.

You take 100 neutral gamers, and the majority will recognise that Killzone is graphically superior to Gears in almost every single way.

Hi guys, this i first ever post but i wanted to say how good Killzone2 is. Please try playing it online as its amazing, even better than COD4 which I love. Also no offence but arguing over which console and which games are better is one of the saddest things I have ever witnessed. Maybe you guys should get out more

    Cheers

Halo Wars is brilliant, I love it. Well done Killzone 2, about time the Sony boys got a decent title, it's been what, 3 years?
  • Vic #63 3 years ago

Killzone's metacritic is based on 73 reviews.

The fact you havent even played the game is laughable (as is the suggestion that Gears' looks inspirational).

    You truly are a dickhead.

Killzone 2 deserves to do well but I have to say i really take issue with people saying that control are spot on! No its BLOODY NOT! Guerilla gave their reasonings as to give it a realistic feel, bloody poor on them I say!

I m happy with the realistic take of having only ONE primary weapon and one sidearm, that is as in real life sure good idea to out Halo Halo with the ground breaking game design then, the limitation to the two weapons at a time.

As others reported the aiming accreleration is off, sensitivity for the middle part are too narrow and thus more likely to be too slow or too fast. That for me and quite a few others meant that Killzone 2 (also 1) will mar the idea of taking the console FPS crown. I would be very much delighted if GC would release a patch to enable more range of tweakings.

With numbers of FPS the number of times I died due to insufficent ammo, poor tactical errors or lucks are acceptable and yet with Killzone 2 in a number of firefights I went back to checkpoints due to aiming mechanisms is quite unforgiveable game design decision in my view. Artifically prolonging the game or ramping up difficulty perhaps?

I had played a huge number of FPS on PC, X360 and PS3 as well as previous consoles, so not a noob, but that said Killzone 2 deserves to do well and is a nice looking game!

Killzone 2 is fantastic, as is Gears 2 - but Killzone does look better to me.

But hey, thats just my opinion...........and we all know what opinions are like........

KZ2 looks great and plays pretty good too, and is number 1 in the charts (well for this week anyway)... cant we just leave it at that. No game is perfect, and fighting the corner for any other game is just stupid, because it would be quite easy to mention a raft of 10/10 games that had their problems. Overall KZ2 is a well executed and great looking game, cant people let us Sony users have that? (PS I own a Wii and an Xbox too). Its a good day for gamers when a big budget game sells well, I am sure no one from any platform wants AAA games that deserve to sell well not to as that is just not a good sign for the games industry?

  • ronuds #67 3 years ago

"I don't think such a generic game deserves to sell well, though, to be honest."

Do we even have actual sales #'s, though? Consider the competition as well. It's not exactly going up against the likes of GTA IV or COD4, etc. This is a good time of year for any title, mediocre or otherwise, to make a killing.
  • Goodfella #68 3 years ago

Calling Killzone 2 the most generic game ever is hilarious. I'll be the first to say it's pretty cliched but to think Gears of War is anything other than generic is even more hilarious.

And to to coolbrittania, yeah, it's been 3 years since the PS3 had a game worth having......in your sad little world.
  • Vic #69 3 years ago

"And why should I play a game to a mediocre sequel that looks bland?"

Because it has universally received good reviews. You truly are a retard. Coming onto a thread about a game you think is 'bland', yet are happy to talk about endlessly, whilst bigging up Gears of War (!).

Shouldnt you be on teamxbox.com? :D
  • Zaltan #70 3 years ago

None on the games on that list are very original... Brain Training is probably the most original, or at least it was when it was released.
  • makeamazing #71 3 years ago

Just love the comments from CountMuppet... he hasnt even got the game... but hes seen the videos on you tube.... /Claps... well done (me suspects he hasnt even got a PS3.. probably hasnt even got an Xbox, probably seen it on Youtube though ;).

Next you will be going on about how well COD4 was so well scripted (even if they stole most of the good lines from Aliens).... You might as well you have made one stupid comment after another.. why not make a day out of it :D
  • Vic #72 3 years ago

It should be Cuntfapula...he is like one of those football fans who gets excited over players he's seen in a five minute Youtube clip :D.

Thankfully I'm unbiased here surrounded by what seems like fanboys from both sides. I enjoyed both Gears of War 2 and Killzone 2- but anyone calling Killzone 2 a generic FPS yet stating their love for gears needs their heads examined, it was a good generic shooter, it had a good cover system but one set, linear root throughout, it was probably more generic than Killzone 2 is for christ sake.

As for the graphics comparisons, to me personally I find Gears has more variety and better textures, yet overall I prefer the look and feel of Killzone 2 as it feels more like a warzone with a heck of a lot more going on. But if graphics comparisons on threads like these are all you are interested in than any actual gameplay than people need to wake up. Both Killzone and Gears are enjoyable. Personally Killzone's single player game has had more excitement and adrenaline moments than any other FPS I've played for a long long time, probably back to Halo.

Does anyone know whether enemies have an unlimited supply of handgrenades in KZ2 like they had in CoD4? Loved the firefights but dancing around handgrenades was much less fun.
  • Dave52 #76 3 years ago

@Fartimus: "The controls arent different, the sensitivity is wrong."

That's subjective. It took me a little while to get used to the KZ2 controls (as I'm used to playing COD4 which is as light as a feather imho), but I think the sensitivity and feel is excellent on KZ2. The controll and feel just adds to the experience.

    EDIT:
@Fartimus: "the pilot of the Spitfire is used to flying an F14"

Could you tell me which Xbox shooter(s) make(s) KZ2 look like a spitfire...?

Got to agree with some others about the controls for Killzone - for me they are fine, I'd guess it is horses for courses but I haven't and wouldn't' want to change them.
  • Vic #78 3 years ago

"The reason is these people are primarily PS3 only owners and as such have not had access to good shooter games."

Yes, CO4+5, Unreal Tournament and Resistance 2 dont exist on PS3.

    ...you sir are a retard.
