Uncharted 2 getting new skins in Japan

Killzone! Resistance! InFamous!

Update: Naughty Dog has Tweeted (thanks, Zero_) that this information may not be right at all. There's no word on what is, however - only a warning:

"What a morning! We've read some inaccurate news regarding our DLC making the rounds. More - and accurate - info coming soon, stay tuned!

Original story: Sony Japan has revealed plans for three bouts of Uncharted 2 DLC, starting with skins based on characters from Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and InFamous.

The first lot is free and will arrive on 28th January, alongside a demo of the game. There are a few screenshots of the skins in our Uncharted 2 gallery.

The next batch is dated for 25th February and will contain converted maps and skins from Uncharted 1.

The third and final instalment is penned for 15th April. In this will be a co-operative multiplayer mode plus four new maps and five new skins.

So far this added content has been confirmed only for Japan, where it will help promote the release of an Uncharted 2 Twin Pack - containing UC1 and UC2 - on 18th February.

We're grilling Sony about plans outside of Japan.

Cool, the gallery link goes to your admin interface.
Anyway... Just awful... Really hope those skins won't get to the west... I don't want to play with characters who don't belong in the game and destroy every atmosphere (sure, the sceleton and stuff doesn't fit either, but still isn't as horrible as those characters)...

    Looks like Apache to me!

jesus whats wrong with you people there free skins, fun for a laugh, running round as a skeleton breaks the illusion of the game as well and you could do that out of the box, so why so much hate.

we just likes to moan...besides, walking skeletons are 'real'.

New co-op mode sounds good, though I doubt it'll prove a successful DLC coming so late after the main game.

coming so late after the main game

It's only been 3 months mate! Really looking forward to new maps, and personally I like the skins. Will there be a good Cole and a bad Cole? Always wanted an inFamous dust up :)

Kratos? solid Snake? I would have liked these at some point too. Hope this update gets released in EU too.

Seems an odd collection to release in Japan, I was under the impression these games weren't particularly well recieved over there.

I think that's why they're doing it, to raise awareness of those franchises, in a region where it's practically non-existant.

Patch: the co-op DLC is due in April, that's almost 8 months after release, that's a long time compared to the early DLC that we see these days.

It has made me think though, publishers really can't win the whole DLC argument. Too late and the sales suffer as many gamers have moved on by then, but release too early and you run the risk of people calling foul and accusations of content being cut specifically to create a DLC opportunity. Only way out to create quality DLC that gamers actually want but it seems that these are very few and far between among the lacklustre additional levels, multiplayer map packs, character skins and the occasional chapter cut. A new co-op mode for Uncharted 2 would be an example of something players want, but I fear it's coming out just a little too late to make quite the impact that it should.

I disagree, especially if the DLC is free. People will come back to try it as it costs them nothing to do so. The gap is also only 6 months (Uncharted 2 came out in October).

ND already said shortly after launch that creating more co-op contnent would take them a lot of time and they weren't sure if they would do it. Now that it's confirmed, I'm sure it will be appreciated by the fans and people will return.

Snake and Ocelot skins would be awesome. Kratos would be cool as well but who would be the villain?

Unfortunately, this is all fake. The news debuted on some random page, where the screenshots looked horribly fake. Naughty Dog's Twitter Feed confirms this:

Yeah, how the hell does free skins equal bitching all of a sudden.

The one that upsets me most is the resistance aliens in uncharted, why would they put aliens in such an otherwise classy game...oh wait.
  • jambo74 #15 2 years ago

Uncharted 2 was great right until those zombie type characters showed up.

How can people complain, first it doesnt break immersion, its friggin awesome. all the sony characters are such high visual quality they are almost interchangeable between games. I'd like to make sev kill a horde of resistence enemies or pit hale against the helghast
  • Murton #18 2 years ago

Jayke: I'd pay pretty good money for a PSN game that let us take our favourite Sony characters into battle against their enemies. Would be kinda cool to see Drake take on the Helghast in some twisted parody of Indy Jones and the Nazis, or see the Sackboys/Sackgirls take the war to the Chimera.

While I can certainly see the argument that these characters would be out of place in the world of Uncharted 2, it's only the competitive multiplayer, it's not doing any real harm immersion-wise, if they were usable in the co-op missions then you may have a point but in the regular multiplayer? Who cares really as long as you know who's side everyone is on?

Yeah Sony should basically make some sort of kingdom hearts/ smash bros/ Dissidia sort of cross-IP game....do they have enough exclusive IP's to do it though? I suppose if they also used exclusive characters of old and had some jak and daxter etc
