Ubisoft to release games for Mac

Catz, Dogz and perhaps even Hawx.

Ubisoft has signed a deal with tech firm TransGaming to bring its games to Mac.

The first batch will be out this autumn and will include pet simulators Catz and Dogz, plus CSI: Hard Evidence.

"To expand our business position and serve the growing Mac gaming community, additional key titles will follow later this year, including several day-and-date releases this fall," said Ubigwig Jay Cohen.

PC titles out this autumn from Ubisoft include Far Cry 2 and Tom Clancy's Hawx, while the new Prince of Persia game will follow nearer the "holiday". Seems likely they'll make it to Mac too, then.

I was always under the impression that Dogz and Catz came out on Mac about 15 years ago. Besides, who cares? Anyone with a Mac powerful enough to play modern games who cares about playing modern games will have Windows on it anyway. And they're not going to spend MORE THAN TWICE THE PRICE for the same game just to not have to boot up in Windows. (looks at Play listings, sees Civ 4 on PC for £10.99, and on Mac for £29.99, realises this is entirely typical and bangs head on desk)

While I theoretically applaud the effort, my Transgaming-experience with Eve Online was shit, so if it's as crap as those "emulated" ports, don't bother...

Whilst it is true on the whole transgaming ports are pretty average, if more publishers sign up to releasing Mac games and they sell ok, then maybe more native releases may become a reality.

It's the last thing keeping windows on my Mac, I'd love to delete the partition.

I applaud companies like Blizzard who continue to release Mac versions of their new titles.

Mac gaming market has a future! I just hope it includes something more than Catz 45 and Dogs 63 :/

With MS more committed to the Xbox, why is Apple not stepping in with some kind of built in licensing system for games only. There's less configurations to support and buyers are likely to buy more games so what's stopping them? Is the xbox stopping them?
