Ubisoft: BG&E2 is still in development

No word on when it's out yet though.

The absence of Beyond Good & Evil 2 from any of Ubisoft's financial chatter raised questions - but fear not, the sequel is still in development.

That's what a rep for the publisher told G4TV, but there was "no additional info to provide at this time".

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was unveiled in 2008 at the publisher's spring UbiDays event. Little has been seen of the game since then, although creator Michel Ancel popped-up last year to tell us this "direct sequel" will be more "immersive" and "complex" - the game he'd envisaged making first-time around but couldn't due to technical hindrances.

Earlier this week Ubisoft announced delays for I Am Alive, Splinter Cell: Conviction and R.U.S.E. The publisher also revealed multiplayer plans for Assassin's Creed II and re-focused publicly on PS3 and 360.

Never going to see release, to the frustration of many, will be added to the list of great games we never got to see in years to come.

You must have missed this part of the article then....

"but fear not, the sequel is still in development."

Yeah, Duke Nukem Forever was "still in development" for 12 years as well.

Yeah, Duke Nukem Forever was "still in development" for 12 years as well.

That's a ridiculous argument. With that attitude (not just you of course) every game thats ever been / currently in / ever going to be in development will never see the light of day.... I can name thousands of games that were in development and saw the light of day....

Bit of optimism goes a long way!

Excellent. If this game were to have been canned I would have lost my faith in all that is right with the world.

The first game was crushingly average. It really was.

Best news I've heard all year. Would love to see the first one get a re-release alongside it's sequel somehow (like what Sony did with Ico & SOTC). Maybe easier/cheaper to go down the download route though, I'd buy it. Games like these really do deserve bigger sales.

Pleased to hear it's still moving forward.

Much like Shenmue, it's another game that left things somewhat on a cliffhanger at the very end, some closure would be nice for Beyond Good And Evil at least. I doubt we'll ever find out what happened next after Shenmue II. :(

BG&E was really lovely. More loveliness, please!

    My day is now complete.

While this is an encouraging step I won't be celebrating till I see it in store shelves, if it does launch I think it may get a record for "most troubled development".

I'd snap up a sequel to BG&E, and like gav, I'd gladly buy the first one again as a download. Make it happen, Ubi!

Yeah not really a good sign, radio silence this long... one wonders why they unveiled it so soon in the first place when they clearly had nothing but a CGI trailer to show.

The first one is at a ridiculous low price (5 euros) on Steam if anyone wants to reminisce. I was pretty excited about the second, but I reckon it won't be coming out until at least the summer of 2011.

To be fair though, how many times have we heard this? Seriously UBI pull your finger out, jeez. At least some media to back your statement?

The leaked video I saw a while back had a very interesting camera system that looked like you were being followed by a camera man.

Good News. I hope the music is going to be composed by Christophe Heral, just like the first one.
