Ubi unveils Tom Clancy's EndWar

"100% next-gen" strategy game.

Ubisoft has unveiled Tom Clancy's EndWar - a strategy game with online multiplayer for next-generation consoles, set on the battlefields of World War III. Yes, three.

Due out on next generation consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008 (i.e. by the end of March 2008), it's described as "a revolutionary war strategy game" that "will push the standards of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems".

It's being put together by Ubisoft Shanghai, and the publisher's touting it as "the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand".

What it's not doing is immediately clarifying whether EndWar is the game teased by jsf28555833-80604722.com - a viral marketing site that spits out gobbledegook, a radio transmission and the familiar Tom Clancy soldier icon. But the men on the viral's forum reckon it is, and it certainly makes sense.

Elsewhere, further details on the game have yet to be made available, but we expect to learn more about it in the next fortnight when a magazine embargo lifts, while Ubisoft is hosting a press event in France towards the end of May that may shed further light on what sounds like an intriguing project.

See - Revelations 6:4 (rev.64 on that viral site), EndWar - Apocalypse anyone?

Told you in the comments on the last article :p

All in all, looking forward to this - was never a fan of Rainbow 6 games before Vegas - what, you want me to spend half an hour looking at lines on a map before I shoot things? - Ghost Recon was a bit meh until it gained the extra vowel and consonant in its acronym, and Splinter Cell frustrated me with its 'You can't shoot this man. No, not even if no-one's looking and can't possibly hear you. What? You think they can't be psychic!?', which has been happily rectified in Double Agent.

My (somewhat rambling) point is this: the Ubisoft handling of the Tom Clancy franchises has gone from strength to strength, so I have high hopes that this will continue their most excellent run.

Continuing from above, I would even dare say that these games have made the Tom Clancy books look lame by comparison.

"Next-gen" doesn't seem to include the Wii, did I get that correctly?

I LOVED the very first and original Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3 and Splinter Cell on the Xbox but it all went downhill from there from my perspective.

GRAW is too modern; it is too complicated and overly flashy for my liking, Rainbow Six: Vegas isn't too bad but half of the game was quite dull, the neon-light graphics gave me a headache and felt very scripted throughout. Splinter Cell: Double Agent is just a massive disappointment with an even worse 'story' than before - something I didn't think was possible.

Go back to the original roots please Ubisoft.

    This their first ever RTS?
  • Eraysor #13 5 years ago

I was actually pretty disappointed that this is going to be an RTS. I was hoping for a blend of the current Clancy franchises into one game.

Great, Ubisoft Shanghai, responsible for fucking up the 360 version of Splinter Cell by making it utterly clinical to be fun.
