Ubi confirms Assassin's director exit

Patrice Désilets taking "creative break".

Ubisoft has confirmed that Patrice Désilets "has decided to take a creative break from the industry".

Earlier US magazine Game Informer reported that the Ubisoft Montreal creative director had left the company.

Désilets had been intimately involved with the Assassin's Creed franchise since its inception and was a pivotal figure in the second game's path to success in 2009.

"With his role on project essentially done, Patrice Désilets has decided to take a creative break from the industry and is no longer working on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood," Ubisoft told Game Informer after initially dismissing the story as "rumour and speculation".

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is the third major Assassin's Creed game but is not seen as the end of the proposed trilogy of releases.

It is due out in late 2010 and holds its focus on the second game's Renaissance protagonist, Ezio Auditore, despite developments in the larger meta-story that would suggest Ezio's role is spent.

We're seeing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood at E3, so we'll be sure to ask what happened to Désilets.

Earlier this year Far Cry 2 director Clint Hocking announced he was leaving Ubisoft after nine years.

Another one jumping ship at Ubiscum, guess he didn't like the DRM either...

Ubisoft and I are taking a "consumer break".

What's going on at Ubi at the moment - that's two major directors they've lost in months, with rumours a while back of Ancel leaving too. Is there internal turmoil, or are Clint and Patrice setting up their own development studio...?

Good. I always thought that guy was a bit of a bellend.

And creepy too, with that beard of his and the fact that HE NEVER STOPPED SMILING.

What about the great Robert Purchese, aka Bertie? Has he also "exited" or is he just on holiday? Why have you been posting all the news Tom?

I'll never buy a Ubisoft PC game again, but having recently completed AC2 on the 360 I don't think I'll be able to avoid buying the next one on console. It's just too good not to play.

I wonder what AC2 is like. Maybe I'll buy it one day for the PC... or maybe I won't.

I wonder how many people actually tried out Assassins Creed 2 on PC; The reason I ask is because I actually bothered myself to purchase the Black Edition and I had no issue whatsoever with the DRM... I'm not saying I agree with it, but I find it hard to consider it that different than, say, Steam for instance, which altough has an offline mode, it rarely works for me.

Anyway, amazing how everytime Ubisoft is mentioned, some people just mention the DRM and not the games themselves or the people behind them really. Oh well...

Back to subject, best of luck to him and "merci" to him for coming up with one of the franchises I enjoyed the most in recent years. :)

I wish Ubisoft all the worst these days so it's good that they are bleeding creativity from all these chaps leaving.
I don't give a rat's ass if my Black Edition works fine today as a collector I want it working fine in 10 years as well.

Ubifail is linked to the Ubilauncher because it was a spit into the face of their loyal customers.
Of course it's mentioned every time just like BP is linked to the "little" spill down there in the south of the US and no one gives a damn if BP did something right somewhere else these days.

I hope Ubisoft dies soon or goes console-only and shuts the fuck up!

    @M4RV

It's a down right bloody shame TBH we have talk about the DRM as Ubi have had some good games out this year (well they look good, I won't buy them to find out!), but what do you expect when their unreasonable business practice on SP games overshadows their games and their quality?

Besides not everyone moans about the DRM, the pirates for instance have absolutely no problem with the DRM at all......

A "creative break" sounds like smashing the Xerox machine in, then spending 10 months away from work "getting spare parts".

Or maybe it's just an elongated coffee break.

BUT JADE RAYMOND IS OK, RIGHT?!

    Well put TriggerHippie. :D
