Two Worlds in early August

Retailers telling porkies.

A spokesperson for Southpeak has told Eurogamer this afternoon that Two Worlds will be available on Xbox 360 and PC in early August.

Although the publisher was reluctant to hammer the final nail into a date, it assured us retailer listings couldn't be correct as the game was launching simultaneously on both platforms.

Two Worlds is a free-roaming and sprawling role-playing game from developer Reality Pump. And although it bears a striking resemblance to Bethesda's Oblivion, there's a few key differences. The most drastic of these is a persistent-world-style multiplayer offering that promises to keep the adventures fresh and challenging for days to come.

We recently had a chance to get to grips with the game and unearthed a unique personality under that familiar façade. You can read all our thoughts in our first impressions of Two Worlds.

We also got to talk to game producer Dirk Hassinger recently, who told us Two Worlds was a "meatier" affair than Oblivion. The full interview will pop up on Eurogamer over the weekend.

Head over to our Two Worlds gamepage for all the latest screenshots and trailers.

I have to confess that I scoffed a bit when this title first popped up. It looked fantasy "me too" and a bit cliched.

But now Mass Effect is continually MIA and this looks better each time I see it

I will probably get this now ...

Fairly interesting, because Two Worlds has been on store shelves here (Switzerland) for more than two weeks now. Maybe even a month. I remember seeing the box at the store and wondering how that one managed to slip by, and then headed home to look at reviews.

Maybe the one they sell here is German-only and the German version got finished earlier. Gamestar's (Germany) review indicates that it has a lot of yum with quite a bit of meh, so in essence, it's just like Oblivion and Gothic 3. Plagued by bugs and repetitive gameplay, but overall not a bad thing if you like that sort of game. Lots of fetch quests, though. LOTS of fetch quests.
