Two Worlds fixed up News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

20 November, 2007

Sketchy role-playing game Two Worlds has undergone a spot of maintenance to fix up some of its glaring errors.

The "megahit", as the statement describes, should now have a much more stable multiplayer mode featuring less lag and more balanced game modes. Whatever that means - it's impossible to tell without patch notes, silly-billies.

But the real clincher is that not only will horses now be easier to control, but if you pay a fine you can re-enter towns you have previously killed in. As you do.

You can download the patch on the official website, although we suggest you find another game to play entirely. It isn't easy being this mean, but when you self-proclaim to be "perfectionists" even though you released a bug-ridden sham of an Oblivion copycat, then you deserve it.

I played the demo last week... still recovering from that.

Still some hard core RPG fans seem to find a very deep game underneath the mess.

Horses appear in every patch note. They must be of almost God-like perfection by now.

(I know they ain't).

I updated the 360 version this morning and tested it by running across the countryside for five minutes.

While the framerate has indeed been improved (it's more 20 fps now than 10), it still hitches/jerks/judders too much for my liking, there's still loads of jarring in-yer-face pop-up and it still freezes to for 5-10 second loading times every few minutes (if you're on horseback, it seems like every few seconds!!!).

It's an improvement but the 360 engine still feels like it was ported from the PC with little or no optimisation, just with the Detail sliders set on Low to get it running "acceptably". The patch seems to make the game a little more bearable to play but nothing short of a major rewrite of the engine is going to address all the issues this game has if you ask me because there's so much wrong with it. Still kind of like it as underneath that ugly, broken exterior is a semi-decent RPG struggling to get out. If you can overlook them then it's possible to get some enjoyment from this game.

A broken game on the 360 and a passable RPG on the PC as it actually works quite well on the latter platform. Sadly it lacks so much polish it should have been killed at birth. If you want a good RPG this year for the PC get The Witcher, it's very good indeed.

Just give it 2-3 hours of gameplay and decide for yourself. All the issues people keep talking about are techical issues, not gameplay related. If you can overlook these, you will find a good RPG. I Enjoyed it just as much as my 300+ hours of Oblivion.
