Two more Dead Space games coming

Plus: big screen adaptation on the way.

Electronic Arts is working on two more Dead Space games plus a movie adaptation of the survival horror series.

That's according to a Variety report which states, "EA launched the game in 2008 and is working on the second and third instalments."

The report also reveals D.J. Caruso has signed up to helm a Dead Space film. Caruso previously directed 2008 thriller Eagle Eye starring Shia TheBeef.

The film's a way off yet: "The producers, EA and Caruso have been listening to takes from prospective screenwriters, and once they set a writer and EA signs off on a creative direction, they will auction the property to studios," Variety reports. "That will likely happen in early September."

There's no word on when the other two games are out. However, one of them might be Dead Space: Extraction, due for an exclusive Wii release this October.

Good news that more Dead Space is on the way, I just hope with news of a prospective film et al, it doesn't mean EA are going to milk the franchise for all it's worth.

I expect one of the games is Extraction, and hopefully the other is a proper sequel on PS360 - we just need confirmation of a Mirror's Edge sequel now and everything will be hunky dorey!

Another Dead Space game would be a good thing. Really liked the first one quite a bit, although it was at its best during the first three missions. Creepy as hell, and not all too many monsters. It got a little too action heavy as the game went on. I preferred when it was just you, alone, walking through the ship, creepy-ass sounds everywhere and carnage scattered around.

Please don't water down the movie for the teenies. I want The Thing not Doom.

    Anyway more DS \o/

    9/10!

Just got done playing through the game a few weeks ago and it was rather good, so more DS would be perfectly welcome.
But are they getting a little ahead of themselfs?
Judging by the games steady drop in price not long after Xmas I'm guessing it did OK but not CoD/GoW/Resi numbers, and they have already been milking it pretty hard with the animated short and the webcomics.
EA seem to be making some pretty overconfident assumptions, and could run the franchise into the ground faster than Capcom throttled Vewtiful Joe.
    Which would be a pity.

i just hope any sequels arent as repetitive as the first game, got bored of it rather fast

    Gief.

DS was incredible, the most atmospheric game I have ever played, and so many "OH SHIT!" moments, like when the USN Valor contacts the Ishimura and says they took the Ishimura's escape pod on board, I was damn near sobbing into my keyboard. More is always welcome.

So a quick scan around the internet suggests the name Shia means "God is salvation". Other references say it means "Followers" or "Praise God".

    Follow the Beef?
    Praise God the Beef?

Anyway, on subject. I was surprised at Dead Space. The concept and marketing art didn't appeal at all. Played the demo, had a big fat meh moment. Played the full game, LOVED it.

Just goes to show a generic sci-fi story / setting won't hold a game back when its tension and mechanics are really bloody good. I thought DS has some of the best system design around. They really managed to make a cosmetic interface (the whole 3D "in the world" thing) actually work FOR the player instead of against them.

My recommendation is to play it with the difficulty turned up for best results. Playing on easy meads you can get by just blasting everything with the same gun, which doesn't do the combat proper service. You really have to be pushed to use the stasis tool and a variety of weapons to get the best out of it.

Yeah good game. I'm excited about Extraction as well. Should be good.

Good news about the sequels. I hope they improve some of the weak points. Maybe a bit more sandboxing and some bug fixes (monsters that cannot walk through open doors?). Maybe some more locations and some more "alien" lore (that always makes a game more mysterious). The graphics engine was absolutely brilliant and the shock factor was perfectly done so don't touch that ;)

Please EA make the film in the vein of Event Horizon and not Resident Evil. It could be a good film if done right.

although i got stuck at the immortal boss in the middle, i loved ds, one of the most polished games around

    There's far too much light...

Get out. Get out and go play Doom 3.

Horror isn't defined by the amount of light.

A genuine 7/10 game. I don't understand some of the spiel wrote in relation to it. ''Zomg GOTY'' etc.

My only hope for a dead space sequel is that they don't change the main character! I liked the fact that you were a resourceful repair man who simply used his everyday (admittidly super advanced) set of tools to disect a bunch of aliens and bosses. I absolutely hate when a games sequel suddenly introduces a new character just to force you to have to re-build everything. Oh and they need to change the power-up system as it made you waste nodes for no reason what so ever.

"My only hope for a dead space sequel is that they don't change the main character!"

Isaac was confirmed to be alive by one of the game's producers at Redwood, but I think they have a great silent [or muffled] protagonist with Isaac. Just a regular guy caught up in some freaky shit.

    'The Beef Is Salvation'?

So is DJ Caruso actually a DJ? Cause you'd think a movie director would be a better choice, yuck yuck.

    I'll get me coat.

Still have to buy this after playing it a few times on rental.

As for the film, not convinced that anyone will better Event Horizon.. in fact people have tried to copy it since (there is one coming out soon that is DeadSpace/EH type - but it doesnt look as good as EH).

Pleased to see so much love for Event Horizon here. It's gotta be one of the most underrated sci-fi/horror films out there. Atmospheric as hell, creepy and scary. Love it. Shame mr. Anderson never quite managed to follow up that particular success.
