Turtles heads VC update

Plus Ice Climber, Splatter House.

Another week brings another trio of retro-rippers to the Virtual Console, lead this time - whaddya know - by those four raucous reptiles, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It's the NES adventure that's been regurgitated here, which lets you swap between Turtles at any time as you attempt to foil a crime plot that's threatening the city. Oh the memories of slotting our cartridge into the friendly little box. We love you April.

Anyway, far away from those pungent sewers of New York is Ice Climber, another 1980s dazzler on the NES. All you've got to do here is scale increasingly perilous mountain-faces, breaking blocks and defeating enemies on the way. With time limits, indestructible obstacles and black ice, it's as difficult Sly Stallone finds tongue-twisters.

Finally there's a good old dose of senseless horror from the TurboGrafx-16's Splatter House, which follows you and your girlfriend as you seek shelter from the storm in a creepy mansion.

Then, just like when you've been drinking, weird things happen in the night. You wake to find your girlfriend gone and a hockey mask on your face. Not only that, but you've now got superhuman strength to help you hack and slash your way through several levels of undead nasties.

Whatever happened to games like that?

Those two NES nibbles will cost you 500 points, and the TurboGrafx-16 tickler will set you back 600.
