Turok multiplayer details

Dinosaurs might eat you.

More details about Turok for Xbox 360 and PS3 have been excavated this afternoon, uncovering multiplayer support for up to 16 people, which doesn't appear to be as straightforward as it seems.

Naturally you'll be able to shoot your friends in the face whilst laughing raucously over your headset, but you'll also have to watch your back for for those ageing scaly dinosaurs.

By invading their planet, which effectively is a delicately balanced ecosystem, you might accidentally have put yourself on Terry Rex's dinner menu. It seems these fellows are somewhat more of a handful than your average hamster, and may well be-line for your meaty thighs over some Jurassic wildebeest. Chomp.

The game is in development at Propaganda Games for an autumn release, with a demo expected to appear closer to that time.

It's built on Unreal Engine 3 and bears an uncanny similarity to Gears of War. You can explore the latest screenshots elsewhere on the site.

someone from the dev studio was harping on about you attacking baddies and then dinosaurs appear and attack everyone so you can use it as a distraction if they go for the baddies or run like a whipped bitch if they go after you. Sounds.. something.

Random computer controlled enemies distracting me from the opposing players = not good.

This "brilliant idea" would ruin multiplayer. It's either PvP, or coop against the CPU. Don't mix it up, it won't work.

Having AI dinos attack you whilst playing against other people (team modes specifically) would be cool!

That seems a rather definite and negative statement, given we don't really have anything more than a concept to go on. I bet some people said the same thing about a plumber jumping over barrels thrown by a giant gorilla.

Lets wait and see is all I am saying. If it blows, we won't buy it. If it rocks, we will.

I agree that it has the potential to go either way - but I'm glad they're at least trying something new rather than sticking to the standard formula.

I really enjoyed multiplayer on Turok 2 on the N64 where you could choose to be a raptor and chase after your mates at high speed, claws flailing. That and trying to avoid having your brain drilled out by those bore thingies.

    Ahh, the Cerebral Bore...

Sorry, but that weapon was classy. Cheap, but classy.

The game looks like Crysis with added dinosaurs. I'll be buying, as I enjoyed the franchise to date. This one looks ace, to be frank - a much better use of an engine than Prey was, for example.

If only other good N64 franchises could make a comeback. Body Harvest 2, please, and another Space Station Silicon Valley too.

Another Body Harvest game would be ace - shame about the misunderstanding that happened between Nintendo and DMA Design which could have made it even better.

Also... a new Blast Corps, you know it makes sense. :-)

I agree with asphaltcowboy's take on this. I think it's smart, because it keeps you fully aware that you're playing Turok, not just another FPS. You're in a dino-ridden world, so your little battles are going to have to fit around the existing ecosystem...Nice.

sanctusmortis: Earth Defence Force 2017 (as a BH2 stop-gap? :) ) I felt Silicon Valley was more an idea with an ok game tacked on to it. They didn't quite nail the implementation, in my opinion; though it wasn't a bad game by any stretch. A new Body Harvest could be a lot of fun, though, I agree.

Its an interesting idea and I lookforward to seeing more of it

It'd be quite funny for a guy who keeps blowing the hell out of everyone else with a really loud, nasty gun to suddenly have his head bitten off. Might encourage a few more quick-and-nasty stealth attacks and could certainly discourage camping too.....

Ill be buying back a 360 for this and Halo 3 (not to mention finish Halo 2)

    *Is huge Turok Fan* :D

It's nice to have variation in online FPS deathmatch's might pick it up just because of this ecosystem.

  • smelly #16 5 years ago

Best multiplayer plan for turok... Let us play as the dinosaurs!!!!

  • ArcMonkey #17 5 years ago

    Gears with dinos?

Give us Turok 2 on Virtual Console!!!!
  • SBfistfun #18 5 years ago

You should be able to pick up bits of meat from dead players to throw at other players.

Then the Dinos can chase after them.
