TT doing LEGO Potter, Crystal Skull games

CV leak also mentions new Hobbit pitch.

An animator for UK studio Traveller's Tales has seemingly confirmed that the developer is currently working on two new LEGO games, long-rumoured to be in production, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

According to the CV of Charlotte Parker, Lego Harry Potter and Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are both in development at the Warner Bros. owned studio. Parker subsequently confirmed to vg247 that she was working on both.

While EA has the rights to publish one more game based on the Harry Potter movies, Warner Bros. is the parent of the Potter franchise and has already put Traveller's Tales to work on other brands including Batman.

Parker also states that she has worked on a demo to pitch to Peter Jackson for a game based on the forthcoming Hobbit movies, due in 2012.

Traveller's Tales is known to be working on one other LEGO title - LEGO Battles - due for release on the DS this year, and had considerable success with the LEGO Star Wars franchise.

You know what i would like to see produced in lego form?... Lego red dwarf!
  • Razz #3 3 years ago

Eh? I thought this would be a nugget of joy :(

Jesus, is she stupid? She is going to get the sack!

"Warner Bros. is the parent of the Potter franchise"

I think you'll find this isn't true. They produce the movies and all that, but I'm sure JK Rowling will still own all the rights, unless she is a madwoman and has sold them outright.

Anyway, bored of Lego games now, Warner. Let TT work on something else before you run the franchise into the ground.

Well if she's already sending her CV out, she probably doesn't care.

Lego Harry Potter is such a no-brainer, such a license to print money that I'm still suprised it hasn't been done already.

Can I build a better Crystal Skulls movie in the lego game?
  • the_dudefather #9 3 years ago

'Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'

Clearly a cheap attempt to cash in on the recent 50 cent game
  • penhalion #10 3 years ago

If the engine isn't significantly updated then I would tell Lucas Arts to force them to hold off on those games until it is.
  • Triggerhappytel #11 3 years ago

If the game isn't significantly changed I would tell TT/WB not to bother, as they've already released the same game four times over now with a slightly different skin.

Triggerhappytel - Five times actually: LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Star Wars: The Original Trilogy, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Batman. Granted LEGO Star Wars: TCS was a compilation with extras but it still counts as a LEGO game. Then they also did those Bionicle Games I believe which are pretty much the same thing only with more shooting.

I enjoyed LEGO Indy but never bothered with the Batman game as by that point I was pretty fed up of LEGO games as they're all pretty much the same as you pointed out. They sell well though so who can blame Traveller's Tales for milking the license to death?
  • Triggerhappytel #13 3 years ago

Fair point Darren, but Warner should realise that flooding the market with these titles will ensure ever-decreasing quality and sooner or later the public will grow tired of them.

Why don't these companies understand that whoring the shit out of their franchises is the fastest way to kill it off?!

Erm... good luck gettign a job with any anal studios in the future. But a Lego Hobbit is very appealing!
  • varsas #15 3 years ago

I don't remember any reviews mentioning that the quality of the Lego games have dropped at all? If the kids are still playing them then why not continue?
  • chrisjm #16 3 years ago

seems a slightly odd choice when lego no longer make harry potter toys.
  • Menace #17 3 years ago

Great news - my son will be happy with more Lego games. =)

"Jesus, is she stupid? She is going to get the sack!"

I bloody hope not. Its a simple mistake to make, especially if she is relatively new to the business. Sacking her would be a massive over-reaction.

"Erm... good luck gettign a job with any anal studios in the future"

Not sure those are the kind of places she is wanting to work but you never know.

Wonder how the Gophers in KOTCS will turn out?
  • kewny #20 3 years ago

lego lord of the rings or lego spiderman would be ace. Not remotely interested in harry potter lego..... Bout time they knocked it on the head in the present form. Needs some fresh ideas methinks.
  • Royal Fool #21 3 years ago

Ugh, they're really milking this stuff now.

And we all know they're going to play exactly the same as the other ones.

    Is TT the new Ocean?

Im still waiting for Halo Kart
  • smelly #24 3 years ago

However, i WOULD buy Lego GTA
  • Dr.Mott #25 3 years ago

The only other Lego franchise I would buy apart from Star Wars is Lord Of The Rings. Everything else just doesn't have enough characters.
  • the_mtfr #26 3 years ago

I specifically remember the head of TT saying in an interview one year ago they're done milking the Lego brand for one or 2 years and that they're moving on to something else in the meanwhile to give the buyers a rest. It must be the bitches in suits over at Warner who don't understand anything...

And by the way, guy who wrote before me and says he doesn't know of quality drops, I remember the last Lego game from TT got like 2 points out of 10 lower than the previous ones on average. Or something.
  • Redeye #27 3 years ago

Dev personnel CV rule #1: never, ever put unannounced/unreleased titles on your 'worked on' list. Publishers get the right arse-ache about it, and potential employers may see you as a blabbermouth who can't stick to a NDA.

On topic, however, the_mtfr would seem to have hit the nail squarely on the head - this smacks of Warner management giving LEGO games the dead horse treatment (and if they're happy to fork out for them, you can't blame TT for taking the money).
  • White_Westie #28 3 years ago

got to say its same old sh** differrent day....

But hats off to TT, I remember when right at the start when we sat in my bedroom writing code, drinking litres of coke during the real early days and now they are a nice successful company! (until everyone gets fed up of lego games..)

If someone wants to carry on funding this, then good luck to em, but time to go back to the drawing board TT and work some of that old new ip magic...
  • Optimaximal #29 3 years ago

I hated on LEGO Batman a bit too much in my review - it was certainly a more entertaining release than Indiana Jones & Star Wars 2 but I was severely disappointed that it was just further complication and features on top of what made the original Lego Star Wars the best - the simpleness of it all.
  • Entity #30 3 years ago

Someone trawl the database to find (paraphrase):"We won't make too many Lego games next year because people will get bored"
  • smelly #31 3 years ago

    @Optimaximal: Here's a review of your review.

Bad grammar, amateur night review. Yet another kid who thinks just because he plays games, that his opinion matters shit to anyone.

    3/10
