Tron also on XBLA tomorrow

With Omega Five, remember.

Microsoft has spread clarity on our toast and told us Tron and Omega Five will be on Live Arcade tomorrow.

Omega Five we told you about last week; a handsome side-scrolling shooter where you control a ninja-like character Geometry Wars-style and blow screens full of enemies up. Also, local co-op and 800 Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30).

Tron, on the other hand, is that retro arcade treat we were promised last summer by Disney who must have fallen asleep. It features a quartet of mini-games inspired by the 1982 film of the same name, things like light cycles, battle tanks, input/output tower, that sort of stuff. Made more money than its big-screen counterpart, too.

Like most of the oldies on Live Arcade it has both original and super mega enhanced version with better graphics, sound, and a co-operative or versus modes for you and a chum. Tron will trounce you for 400 Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.65).

Omega Five looks fantastic, but the reviews so far has been a bit negative.
No online coop is of course a huge drawback but i never manage to find people to play with in xbla games online anyway.

@muscleblade - Yeh, tis true... Your best bet is to make friends in the Xbox forum for the game you want to play, cos randomly finding ppl in almost all of these retro games is nearly impossible :(

But Tron could be cool. Has anyone played it yet? Not sure if I'm wearing those rose tinted glasses of the past again...

Tron was played with a paddle and a stick if I remember rightly. There's light-cycles, the tanks (a bit like the tanks in Wii Play), a breakout type thing where the blocks descend toward you, and something else I can't remember.

Now, whether to risk shattering 25-year-old memories in the name of a bit of nostalgia ...

I played Tron on a MAME type thing a few weeks ago - the music alone is enough to push a big wave of nostalgia over. One thing I'd forgotten was how tough some bits are - well, either that or I'm rubbish at it.

Worth a re-visit though, I think - it's far from the worst retro thing on XBLA.....
