Transformers gets voice talent

Film and television actors in.

Activision has signed up Transformers film stars Shial LaBeouf and Megan Fox to reprise their roles in the game.

They'll be giving it the dramatics alongside the original television voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, Peter Cullen and Frank Webber.

The game will be based on the upcoming film from Dreamworks and Paramount, and will enjoy a storyline created by the writer of the animated series Flint Dille.

"Transformers is an incredible franchise with huge global appeal, and our goal is to present a game that speaks to fans of the upcoming movie as well as to G1 fans," said Laird Malamed, head of production at Activision. "We have a fantastic line-up that includes original talent from the animated TV series and the upcoming film, bringing together the best of both worlds."

The console versions of Transformers are in development at Traveller's Tales, the brain behind LEGO Star Wars. Vicarious Visions is dealing with the DS outing and Savage Entertainment is handling the PSP.

No release date has been set, but we expect it not to be too far away from the 27th July film release.

Head over to our recent impressions of the game for more information.

Hmmm, it never occured to me that the game might have you running around as humans. Maybe you won't, but I suppose the film association makes this more likely.

People suck, robots kick ass. If they put in a "stealth section" I am going to write to the papers in outrage.

The voice of Megatron was Frank Welker rather than Webber.

    That is all.

Welker was replaced by Hugo Weaving in the movie, so it's interesting they've got him on board for this. Presumably some kind of consolation prize. Mind you, the guy's voiced pretty much every non-human creature in TV and movie history - he's got over 500 credits on IMDb for everything from Gremlins to Scooby Doo - so I don't suppose he's hurting too much.

I heard that BumbleBee (aka Gold Bug) won't be a Volkswagon Beetle in the film as all the cars have to be Fords. If this is true (I am going on rumour and speculation) I will boycott the film and everything associated with it.

That would be "Frank Welker", Rob. You might also remember him as Dr. Claw.

It still won't be as good as the Melbourne House game.

Rex Runti: Yeah, Bumblebee's a Camero in the film or something like that. It's not so much that all the cars have to be Fords (Not heard anything along those lines so far) but because, apparently, Volkswagen are funny about their car being associated with Transformers. There's a line of Transformers called Alternators where Hasbro approached car manufacturers and got their permission to use actual cars as the alt. modes so you get figures that transform into scale replicas of real cars. Anyway, rumour has it that they approached Volkswagen to ask them if they could use the new Beetle for Bumblebee and they said no. Apparently Volkswagen won't have anything to do with Transformers now because Transformers use guns.
I'm kinda looking forward to this as I'm nut about Transformers, but a demo in Xbox Live first would be a blessing so if I could see if it's a) Awesome 'coz it's Transformers or b) Crap because it's a movie tie-in.

    Welker replaced?
    An outrage!

    "Nobody replaces Megatron!"
"Then it pleases me to be the first"

A Transformers news story a day makes the pedants and fanboys come out to play.

"is shia the beef in Constantine?"

Yeah, he plays the gruff forty-something taxi driver, Chas, to Keanu's blond liverpudlian Constantine.

Heh - car originally designed for one A. Hitler not keen on association with guns. Oh the irony!

I just hope Mr Rosbeef recorded an appropriate scream sample for when you get to stomp on the runty little git. I hear there's a minigame "Where's Le Boeuf?" - there's a bunch of crates, with SlB hiding in one, and you've got to rid the movie world of this talentless little girlyman as quickly as possible.

Or I could just be dreaming...
