Tool set released for Dragon Age News

PC News by Oli Welsh

9 November, 2009

BioWare has released the tool set for its monster RPG Dragon Age: Origins on PC.

The software suite allows you to create new campaigns, quests and cinematic sequences using the game engine. You can either use the existing Dragon Age artwork or your own.

You get camera, voice and lip-syncing tools to make cut-scenes and full control of creature AI in combat. The whole thing is supported by the new BioWare Social Network, where the content-creation community offers tutorials and content updates for the tool set, as well as chance to chat and share with other creators.

It's BioWare's first release for RPG modders since it served that community to such great effect with Neverwinter Nights in the early 2000s.

Excellent, I wish for something like that in consoles.

Doesn't the console menu have an option for "other campaigns"?

Given you get a DLC delivery system, I'm sure something can be done with custom modules.

And this, my friends, is why the PC version of Dragon Age is the best one.

@Gaol - you probly could considering it's a 18 rated game - however money is on EA 'nannying' it dispite the age rating

I'm glad I bought the PC version. Hopefully I can edit out Morrigan entirely and replace her with a cardboard cut out.

Fair warning for anyone who dabbled with the NWN1 & 2 toolsets - this is MUCH more incomprehensible. I know a learning curve is to be expected, but it appears that Bioware have done absolutely nothing to make this user friendly. If you have the time and skill I'm sure great things are possible. But you won't be able to knock out the quick adventures like you could with the previous tools.

I was playing around with toolset earlier and, hell, it's daunting. I had to look at website to understand where the Health, Skills, Strength, etc. stats were and then it wasn't easy to decipher those number there translate into figures for the game itself. In the end I decided to leave it well alone.
