Too Human co-op cut from four to two News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

14 May, 2008

Silicon Knights has revealed that Too Human co-op has been chopped in half and will now support just you and a friend.

The developer told attendees at the Microsoft showcase in San Francisco that having four of you battle frozen robotic goblins from ancient history was too confusing and cluttered on the screen.

However, co-op is still central to the action role-playing game; you will need to enlist the help of a friend in order to get past the latter difficulty levels.

Before starting a game with your friend you will be able to set up loot-sharing options and also trade items as you go - some will be class-specific.

You will come back to life by the side of your friend, just in case you stray too far, and to keep things challenging Too Human will spawn enemy encounters at a level higher than the stronger of your paring.

Too Human will be released exclusively for Xbox 360 on 29th August in Europe.

Pop over to our Too Human gallery for hordes of freshly-added shots, or to Eurogamer TV to see how co-op works and for a viral marketing trailer based around a real-life (or is it?) discovery of a frozen goblin robot - Media Dan says it is "done very well".

Hmm...I don't like being forced to find someone to play with just to progress. An no local co-op? Naughty developer, very naughty!

hehe. You shouldn't laugh really but this game is utterly doomed I think. Let's hope that it doesn't go badly and that the game sells well. I don't think anyone wants to see them go bust.

No local co-op at all?

Well that is my interest in the game 100% over with right there if that is true - fuck, even Marvel Ultimate Alliance managed local co-op...

No local co-op I can live with in a single player game, however if you're going to force co-op at any point than the lack of being able to do that locally is pretty damn poor.

Fail/10. Co-op is far better with four people, at least then it doesn't totally suck if one player isn't as good as the others.

No local co-op? What the fuck are you thinking? I was telling my wife about this game last night, and how much fun we could have TOGETHER! No Sale.

Oh well, guess you'll just have to find some other activity to do together. No idea what, though.

They've also removed all the cutscenes and Story in co-op, so if you want to know what the frack is going on you have to play through the SP according to IGN :(

@Pear - lol, no worries there mate.

Seriously though... Local Co-op in an RPG is something I've been looking forward to. I got my first feel for this in Eternal Sonata, where I could grab a controller and help my wife when she was struggling with a particular battle. The addition of co-op in RPG's is a great step in gameplay and a HUGE miss by silicon to exclude it.

Actually, from what I've heard the article is incorrect. What they mean is that to be able to get all the most exotic and powerful items you need to enlist an other player in co-op. Not to play through the game in single player.

I Actually like how they structured co-op in general. When you play through it yourself the first time (which I will do, no co-op) you get all the cutscenes. When you play as co-op you can get extra bonusses and items and you skip the custscenes and go straight for the action. When I play co-op in gears we always just skip the cutscenes. I've seen them in single player so...

Actually the co-op thing is correct. You can't apparently survive the later difficulty levels without a co-op partner and the most powerful items are only found on the harder difficulties just as in Diablo 2.

Sadly people on these forums have a right to be a bit pissed off. It's kind of like being told that you can only play on normal if you don't have a mate who is willing to go through the game with you.

All games should have a 'Damsel in Distress' mode where men can jump in and help them through the difficult bits, the poor dears.

More of a 'prevent her from throwing the controler into the tv mode at her request mode', but you can twist it anyway you like. Wanker.

Ok, so it is about difficulty levels. So if I run the game at Easy or Normal in single player I should be ok, but at "Crazy" difficulty I would be too crappy to make it through without a partner, right? So it isn't that you can't play the game to the end without a co-op buddy?

As long as I can finish the game on a decent difficulty level I'd say this game could be really awesome!

No local coop and to difficult to finish the later levels.....

Sounds like fucking money stealing practices to me.

They should put a warning on the box that you can't finish it without xbox live... :s

worrying this is.

I am bitterly dissapointed with co-op going down from 4 to 2.
Almost as equally dissapointed with the no cutscenes during multiplayer.
Not fussed about the local co-op, as I haven't played local co-op in years.

But needed a partner the finish the game? So you MUST HAVE LIVE? O_o

Come on guys - "you will need to enlist the help of a friend in order to get past the latter difficulty levels."

I take this to mean that it will be manageable on 'Normal' but if you ramp it up up to 'Hard' or 'Insane' (or whatever they call the really had difficulty setting) you will need a friend tagging along..... unless you're uber l33tzor!!!!11

That's what it does mean, it's just that people are idiots........

Still pretty nobbed off about the lack of local co-op.
