Tony Hawk: Ride flips to December

Enrol at boarding school.

Activision has told Eurogamer that Tony Hawk: Ride will be released on 4th December on PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

The game, plus plastic skateboard peripheral, costs £99.99. You ride the device much like the real-thing, sliding 180 degrees, holding manuals (wheelies) and making jump motions.

It's Activision's - the publisher of peripherals' - attempt at revitalising a series trounced by EA's Skate in recent years. RIDE was demoed at E3 earlier this year, and that remains our last good look at the game.

Head over to our Tony Hawk: Ride preview to see what we thought.

Looking at my living room. I can honestly say this board is rediculous. If you own a house from MTV Cribs then you'll have a big enough screen and a large enough open floor area for it. Otherwise all I can say is "Watch out for the coffee table!" *crashhhh*
  • charliemouse #2 2 years ago

I live in a pretty small London flat but even I could move the coffee table to the side to fit a skateboard-sized bit of plastic in and do a bit of leanning and grabbing. Not that I want to. I think it's ridiculous for other reasons.

I'd buy this game along with DJ Hero, but unfortunately I don't have more money than sense.

I remember when Tony Hawk's was one of my yearly must-buys, but since American Wasteland they just lost the plot, and the series will never be the same with a new developer at the helm.

I canceled my pre-order. It's too energetic and too much a health risk.

Actually, you don't have to grab the board or have to do anything crazy to perform the stunts. A small amount of leaning, stepping on the front or rear of the board to do a manual. If you need to do a grab, you just bend at the knees a little and put your hand over the sensor.

You won't even fall off the board as you will more than likely just step off if you lose your balance.

    @scuffpuppy

    I am guessing really terrible.

"Activision publisher of peripherals" - that made me chuckle. How long before you have to wear NVG while playing Call of Duty?

I'm sad, TH is my favorite series I love it, yet I'm going to be spending this x-mas without one....that's the first in 8 years or so which makes me really bummed.

Why can't I play it? Becuase I want to sit down and play it, with a controller. Because TH had one of THE BEST control systems going, it was 2nd nature to me.

Please do a classic TH on XBLA, I'd bloody love that I would.

Can this game not be played with a regular controller? Do you have to have the Board?
If thats the case then they should really have thought about giving players whi actually like the series an option.

I'm waiting for the first law suite due to some idiot falling off the thing and breaking something.

edit: people managed to putt Wii motes through plasma screens despite a safety wire, so i'm sure this is also just a matter of time.

I can see the newspaper article now... "Man hurts himself while attempting to grind on the TV while playing with his board watching Tony Hawks Ride......" So many innuendos!!

I kinda feel bad for Tony Hawk these days. Though I'm sure he's still cashing in with these titles, they used to be some of the best games on console (IMO). Nowadays they seem to of just run out of idea's, looked around at all the other "games" selling big plastic peripherals and said "Here Tony, we cant think of any new ideas for your game, so just go sell this shit to the kids!"
  • mattigan #14 2 years ago

Strangely enough, this is the only game my missus has EVER expressed an interest in!?
  • sam_w #15 2 years ago

This is going to be absolutely terrible =/
    Stick with Skate.

I still have the same question with this I had when it was announced - if you rotate through 180 degrees aren't you then facing AWAY from the TV?
  • davisorle #17 2 years ago

Im not into scating and I think that even if in RL i was into skating Id consider this a dumb idea.. Paying so much for this kind of peripheral. Hope its worth for the ones that will spend their money on it though.
  • makeamazing #18 2 years ago

Yet another expensive game with a peripheral... its all getting a bit silly on that front now... just want a resonably priced game where you use a controller... simple!
  • oupe #19 2 years ago

I've got a gut feeling that this game is going to fail miserably. Publishers just can't go announcing new games with exotic peripherals all the time, it's simply too expensive and skateboard games are a thing of the past.

    "Im not into scating"

Glad to hear it mate! :)

This would be a great time to revive Skate Or Die. Instead, we get more plastic to break. I've got dodgy knees so doubt I could use this even if I wanted to.
