Anyway... there's too many games coming out that sound great such that I want them! Dammit! I know it's always the same but it seems worse this year despite the fact that the Wii has absolutely nothing of note (which is now a good rather than bad thing!). I've a feeling this game will slip onto my "To Buy Next Year" list as there's no way I'll possibly have to time to play all the games I want. :(

P.S. Tomb Raider Underworld sounds great!

"Zombie creatures join the ranks of enemies"

creatures? so not even the zombies are human?
at least they could throw a zombie t-rex in. if there are gonna be just zombie bats, rats and tigers, i'll be disappointed.

Nicely written preview. I'm a huge fan of the TR series (with the exception of Angel of Darkness) and looking forward to picking this up. Its shaping up to be a good festive season for me with the release of this and Prince of Persia.

This is looking like where the series should have went, its started off nicely when you are fighting t-rexes and apes and atlantian mummies while solving puzzles in varied mythological temples and shrines, felt like a pulp adventure story, then it started to become a sexy secret agent game with endless mercenaries (especially TR: Legend, there was about 2 non-human enemies in the game) and a lack of tombs to raid

After the excellent ‘Anniversary’ I’m really looking forward to this. Glad to here there is less shooting and hopefully those annoying bike sections from ‘Legend’ will also disappear too.

Gonna get this one. Been ages since I played a good TR. I have high hopes for this especially if they return to "hidden" locations.

Now I'm nearly done with Anniversary (finally figured out to hold 'lock' when doing adrenalin dodge...NOT in the manual!) I'm quite looking forward to the first high def' TR on PS3.

Hope it's at least as good as TRA.

Nice preview, it makes it sound like pretty much everything I want from a TR game. I may end up getting this on PS2 (still a last gen gamer), so I hope it gets a good port.

Glad it seems to be sticking to the true Tomb Raider, more of the logic in there and lack of human enemies.

1st paragraph made me laugh! :)
Good read although apart from apparent Zombies it didn't really tell us much more than we already know.

Massive fan of the TR series and although I've not been completely thrilled with all of them i.e AOD and Last Revelation I've still enjoyed and completed every one of them.

Really looking forward to this. Any idea if there will be a demo out? I remember there being one for Legend.

god i hate the new engine. with it's ten levels per game and it's overly simple puzzle mechanics. is this the new lara... melee ffs. another game i won't be finishing in the few hours it took me to finish anniversary. Here's to making them long and complex again.

If they don't get rid of the animal-killing, I won't buy it. I know it sounds stupid, but I just hate that aspect of the franchise. Just hope that the tranquilizer gun can handle the job...

@ Timberwolf: the trouble is that to get a game looking consistently good throughout the world on current gen technology you need an enormous amount of art resources. Every game I know of gets cut because the artists won't have time to finish the world.

I'd love every game to be 15 hours plus, but there's just not the money to make them like that anymore (unless you have gazillions to throw at the project like Rockstar).

I would take reduced art levels if it meant a bigger game with more zones etc. Many so called " Next Gen " games are far too short and most people want + 15 hours

I only got on board once CD got involved, never liking the ps games. I always thought and still do that Soul Reaver was a lot better game.
I have liked Anni and Leg so this could be a buy for me.

Underworld certainly kicks off in brilliantly bewildering style, the first moments thrusting you into the depths of a burning Croft Manor, with no idea what's happened.

I feel like Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes. Tooling around the Croft manor has always been a highlight of the series for me.

Really looking forward to this. Playing through TRA to completion on Hard mode (let's face it, even on hard the TR games are fairly easy), and am looking to get this PDQ after release.

I loved TR:L as well, and have played through it twice (once on PC, once on 360) - it's a great game.

I seriously doubt that's true. Most people I know who have a job and/or family do definitely not want longer games. Of course there are exceptions, but for an action-adventure such as Tomb Raider, 10-12 hours are more than enough for me.

Many games have basic mechanics that get a bit boring after 10 hrs, I like getting to the end of a game while what I'm doing in it is still a bit fresh.

"...a handheld tape recorder and on-the-spot field notes from Croft replaces the in-ear chatter of buddies as a means of exposition..."

That's a really nice idea.

Wow. Very positive preview. I haven't enjoyed a Tomb Raider since.. the first one, I think! Or did I like the second one too? I don't remember.

I tried to like Legends, but I couldn't. Never got Anniversary after reading about the Quick Time Events.

Also, Mirror's Edge. It is going to be a great season. Except for all of my muscles atrophying, my butt getting even bigger, dishes piling up in the sink, etc.

I couldn't care less if a game is short. So long as it's fun and it looks good, I'll take quality over quantity. I only get to play in 30 minute sessions a few nights a week, anyway. Heh, I've been playing Anniversary for months, and it took me months to finish Legend before that! I'm about halfway through Anniversary now, and as much as I like it, it is starting to overstay it's welcome. Wouldn't break my heart in the slightest if the second half were 10 minutes long.
