Eurogamer: The decision to go exclusively with Xbox 360 attracted a lot of attention, and not all of it positive. How do you feel about that in hindsight, and about exclusive content for consoles in general?

Ron Rosenberg: We like money.

Someone offers you a bag 'o' money to be exclusive you would be foolish to say no. I have no probs with exclusive content and it can be a deciding factor on what format I buy a game on.

Would love to see the financial figures for this. Is the amount MS pay them for exclusivity really worth that much more than they would have made by selling it to PS3 owners?
Is the amount ms pay for exclusivity made back to them in the amount of extra people that buy an xbox rather than a ps3?
Is it a clever move by MS and a stupid move by Sony?

As a PS3 owner who bought Tomb Raider i feel very burnt by them not offering it on the ps3 and will probably out of principle not buy future releases (it's not like there arnt many similar products).

Totally agree - made me choose TR / GTA IV on Xbox and Mirrors Edge on PS3. Would still be good if everybody took the Criterion route and made some of this stuff free. I would also like more companies to reward players who complete games with extra stuff other than just achievements and trophies. Even the 'Maw' game you a free theme and gamercards - why not more of that?

Will be interesting to see the price point of this vs the new Prince of Persia DLC too.

3 hours gameplay seems a little short for 800 points in my opinion

So it's Warrior Within then? Oh dear.

Underworld was utter shit, I can't see this being much better. What a waste of cash that was. /regrets my insatiable short attention span and buying stuff on release.

All I need to know is are there any more sodding giant spiders, the Beneath the Ashes theme seems to suggest there from pics I've seen, I can't see myself getting it if I have to deal with any more of them

I really enjoyed Underworld and am looking forward to playing this. 800msp doesn't seem excessive.

Considering some of the 'content' that is being offered as DLC, 800 points for 3-4 hours of high quality work is fine, but as a PS3 owner I won't be able to support it with my cash. Exclusive DLC - regardless of how much a developer earns from it upfront is obviously a bad idea for the consumer as it prevents a large percentage of the buying audience from playing it. Therefore the sooner this policy is done away with throughout the industry the better.

Second Vertical Stand's stand

However, to take this further we would also want to say to stop make MSG4 exclusive to PS3 and Gears of War 2 to X360 as both are great games that are closed off to others true gamers who doesnt own all the consoles?!

Companies exists to make money and live off it, this is the motivitation for above and MS are simply trying to keep their slim lead over Sony and to maintain the momentum. Sony once owned 75 percent of the market so MS are ensuring that this time around there would be more fair share and people would eventually stop association TOP GAME CONSOLE = SONY's PLAYSTATION as the only real choice.

So it is better not to have the game at all or to play the main game witout frills/extra that comes to others but not to you? I think DLC exclusive is the new battle of this gen to win a greater market share.

If 360 owners want MGS4 they can have it, cause its not very good *ahem* but I take your point about exclusives, I just think that when its comes to add ons and DLC, if the game is already multi-platform why prevent certain users from playing it for the sake of an upfront deal? As a gamer I'd rather it didn't become the new battleground in the very tedious console fanboy spats between Sony and Microsoft but rather a way of offering new content and ideas that build upon the foundations of the core game.

Isn't the need for an exclusive deal for additional content an admission that they cannot garner enough interest among gamers for the content on the open marketplace? What do gamers want from DLC content and how to provide it for them at prices they're willing to pay should be the focus of user research. Content and prices that a large percentage of the install base of a game want to buy, or will even encourage people to pick up the game if they haven't already (long tail).

If MS hadn't funded the exclusive DLC isn't there a good chance it would just have been shit or not even happened at all?

I'd personally rather it didn't come out at all than come out exclusively for any console. I genuinley think its unfair on those who have bought the main game when DLC comes out exclusively on a different platform. I own a PS3 and don't mind saying I'm devastated about Lost & Damned and really feel let down by Rockstar.
