Tiger 09 and SBK-08 demos on Live News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

15 August, 2008

EA's demo version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 has popped up on Xbox Live as well as PlayStation Network.

The demo features three holes on the new Gary Player Country Club course in South Africa, and introduces Tiger's coach Hank Haney, who will advise you on your technique after you're finished. You will also get to try out the new Club Tuner, where you can pimp your sticks.

Also on Xbox Live this week is a demo of SBK-08: Superbike World Championship. It's not available in Asia or North America, apparently, but European crotch-rocketeers can engage with a pair of tracks using all the teams, riders and bikers featured in the SBK.

Look out for our reviews of both games pretty soon. SBK-08 is out now (also on PC, PS2 and PSP, with a PS3 version to follow), while Tiger Woods 09 will be with us on 29th August for Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PS2 and PSP. And yes, we'll be trying to do separate reviews of the flashy-graphics console version and the Wii version.

The Tiger Woods 09 demo was quite good (as usual) but despite the new courses and additional challenges, the game still feels, sounds and looks pretty much the same (bar maybe more detailed textures... maybe...) as the previous three current gen versions since TW 06 so I don't think I'll be buying it. I think I'll wait for the 2010 version on the Wii when EA will hopefully use that new Wiimote addon that comes with Wii Sports 2 to make the Wii the best and most realistic way to play these games.

I've just had a quick bash on the Tiger demo, and it's really good, seems much better than last year's version, and the option to tune your clubs is a very welcome addition.
