Three Valkyria DLC packs this spring

Hard mode and two missions coming.

SEGA has announced that it's to release three packs of downloadable content for Valkyria Chronicles, its PS3 tactical RPG.

The three DLC packs, all due this spring, consist of a Hard EX Mode and two missions: Edy's mission 'Enter the Edy Detachment', and Selvaria's mission 'Behind Her Blue Flame'.

The hard mode makes enemies tougher and removes players' wain weapon, the tank Edelweiss, bringing strategy to the fore.

Edy's mission involves defending a small village with an outnumbered squad of six, while Selvaria's mission portrays the outbreak of war from the enemy perspective - specifically, that of a young engineer called Johann.

Valkyria Chronicles is a gorgeous, cel-shaded hybrid of JRPG and wargame, set in an alternate version 1930s Europe. It's something of an overlooked gem if you ask us. Find out why at the Valkyria Chronicles gamepage.

Just got this in HMV for ?24.99.

It's superb. Reminds me of the Sakura Taisen games in terms of style and tone.

why did Edy get a mission she's not exactly a story character........anywho i wonder how much it'll cost.......
  • Triggerhappytel #5 3 years ago

Kinda been meaning to buy this, but I don't have the time or necessarily the inclination for weighty RPG at moment. I do have 15 pounds of HMV vouchers so maybe I'll see if my local has it for that price.

Sounds cool, hope its not too costly.
Sad that it didn't sell better though...

Excellent, really want the Selvaria DLC.

As for the the guy that says it reminds him of Sakura Taisen it's because it's by the same team.

    @Tricker

The only DLC I'd pay money for is the Selvaria pack. And that's coming from someone who'd list it as their GOTY.

EDIT: and is a cheap bastard

Valkyria Chronicles is all kinds of awesome, I highly recommend it!

Edy is dead in my current game, will be weird to be able to play her missions :p

I absolutely loved this game to bits, I normally don't touch DLC with a 10 foot pole, but I wo'nt be able to resist this one, day 1 purchase!!

I'm sure this game is for a budget release this spring following the japanese re-release.

All the big online traders are out of stock.
  • Fubdub #12 3 years ago

not sure it sold well enough to justify a reprint.
  • Man_s #13 3 years ago

After the poor sales the game had this is rather surprising... in a good way! Hopefully Sega will continue to support their better games... or better yet, focus on these kind of games instead of crappy Sonic reashes. And bring out Yakuza 3!

    /rant

In case anyone's interested (and you should), you can get it around ?25 from sendit.com. Only place that had it when I had the money to order it about a month ago. A game that's not for everyone, but since you have a demo on PSN, there's really no excuse. Highly recommended.

Great news! The new mode sounds like it'll be tough - I tried not to rely TOO much on the Edelweisse but there were some missions I can scarcely imagine succeeding on without it. Still, that'll all be part of the fun!

    "wain weapon"?

    Mawwidge...
  • Kyle #16 3 years ago

    "removes players' wain weapon"

Wain weapon? I hate to be a spelling nazi but, come on now. These typos are becoming a regular occurence on EG and it just looks kinda bad.

As for the DLC I'll be giving it a miss, at least at first since I still need to finish the main game.

So how about throwing in some trophies for this quality title? Hmmm.....
  • Les #18 3 years ago

That reminds me, still have to play this. :)
  • smelly #19 3 years ago

So now they want me to pay for a hard mode? GTF

Has to be in the top 5 games i've played this generation.

Fingers were crossed this DLC would make its way to the UK cus' its been out in Japan since last Autumn. Excellent news cus' I don't think it's sold nowhere near as much as it should've.

Amazing game, except for the stupidly hard final mission which I couldn't be arsed wasting hours of my life completing. Very much looking forward to the anime, but don't think I'll be bothering with the DLC.
  • Brianstorm #22 3 years ago

    trophies would have been excellent.

I gotta summon the courage to try level 9 (I think) - the one with the giant enemy tank thingy.

I read it can take an hour or more for the one mission with a high likelihood of fail... it was enough to
stop me trying... /blush... is it really that bad?
  • JHuxley #24 3 years ago

    @Irien

Maximillian has an obsession with giant tanks (hmm? I didn't suggest anything!) so it depends which one you mean. Personally I got stuck on the first one you have to fight just outside the shrine in the desert. Bloody tough, especially if you don't know what's waiting for you at the end of the level...I won't spoil it, but I really wish I'd kept my troops in the trenches and not retreated them to a place I thought was 'safe'.

Well worth persevering with though. It may seem unfair at times, but aside from a little trial and error all levels can be beaten fairly easily with the right strategy IMO.
  • zarglu #25 3 years ago

The big tank in desert mission isn't so hard, you just have to take it from the right angle. Like pretty much all missions, in can be completed in a few rounds no sweat.

don't forget what only Welkin can do, and remember to use those troops with 3 'nades, 'nuff said ^_^

Dont care about hard mode but two new episodes sounds brilliant.

The final 2 missions arent that hard, I found the one with the flame tanks harder. Basically with the big tank just drive up and down in the rut, only really need four soldiers two keep the enemy lancers from your radiator, and a scout and a soldier to take out the big tanks radiators.

The mission after that its easy enough with a mixed squad and the flamethrower attachment.
