THQ unveils new off-roader for PS3, 360
Races can last up to four hours.
THQ has announced plans to release a new off-road racing game for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Baja (pronounced "badger", at least in the Eurogamer office) is being developed by some of the team behind the MX vs. ATV games. It combines "the best elements of the real-world sport with the right balance of arcade fun", according to the press release.
There will be more than 100 square miles of tough terrain to explore, featuring mountains, mud and canyons. Expect 40 vehicles in eight classes, including Trophy Trucks, 4x4s and buggies. Vehicles can be upgraded with hundreds of different parts.
There are Hill Climb challenges, head-to-head Open Class races, circuit races and of course "The Baja", described as, "the ultimate off-road endurance challenge". Because Baja's "open worlds extend thousands of miles across all landscapes" races can last "up to four hours", apparently.
You can also expect lifelike physics and a support management system to help you monitor and repair damage. Up to four players will be able to take part in split-screen races and there's online and LAN play for up to 12 drivers.
Baja is down for a release in August.

Nope, thats 10 square miles.
100 square miles, is a square 100 x 100 miles.
Thats a fair few miles.

Someone's maths is wrong. And it's bar-har, due to the Mehican influence.
edit: oh wait, it's probably a 10x10=100 square miles area, with 1000 linear miles of tracks threaded through it. That'd work.

I think it's the new Ferrari Challenge game, that's allowing just that. All I remember is that the article I read said that the creators recommend opting for the condensed 24 minute race, but you could still attempt the mammoth 24 hour version, if you so chose.

last night strangely, which I thoroughly recommend to anyone with a fun-muscle. (Eurogamer hasn't reviewed it oddly)
Fans of Midtown Madness would do well to look toward it, as well as those interested in Sandboxy experiences.
It has one of the best online implementations I've seen. (Waiting-room environment to play and test vehicles in whilst the game loads, Winner chooses next event etc)

Right you are. I couldn't recall which game it was, but it is indeed GRID (which should be brilliant, irrespective). In the career, you'll play 24 minutes, but in the Free Race option, you can set Le Mans to its 24 hour endurance testing version, reveals my brief research on the official Codies forum.

100 square miles = 10 miles X 10 miles.
100 miles squared = 100 miles x 100 miles.
