THQ unveils Kaos Studios' Homefront News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

27 May, 2009

THQ has unveiled Homefront, a first-person shooter for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 from Kaos Studios, which will be shown at E3. There's currently no release date.

Set 20 years in the future, Homefront puts you at the spearhead of the resistance against North Korean occupation of the USA.

Developer Kaos promises a mixture of first-person storytelling and oppressive action sequences with the near-future realism of games like its own Frontlines: Fuel of War and (we reckon) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

That means prototype drone weaponry and other innovations in amongst the more familiar assault rifles, RPGs, tanks, planes and 4x4s.

In addition to a story-driven single-player campaign, Homefront promises a massive multiplayer component, most likely class-based, which aims to match the faster pace of games like Call of Duty to the scale of things like Frontlines.

Look out for an exclusive preview of Homefront on Eurogamer in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Yeah, North Korea occupying the USA, that seems likely. At least fantasy or sci-fi games invite you to suspend disbelief because of their settings.

Those bloody North Koreans, coming over here in their barrel rafts, waving their pointy sticks, thinking they own the place.

At least pick a country with roughly the same size and weight.

@menage: I think that the weight part of your sentence might be an issue.

What's the odds this will be renamed "Frontlines: Homefront" a few months before release?

"So, Frontlines 2 then, yes?"

Yeah, that's what it basically sounds like. Even the title isn't all that different.

North Korea invades the US? Really? I honestly don't think I've heard of a worst story for a video game. If someone can actually find a video game story more ridiculous, I'd be glad to know.

Also, at least if you played as the North Koreans it would be something original, rather than the same old "US resistance" twaddle.

When the poor North-Korean will set foot on US soil he'll sell his guns and equipment to the nearest neighbourhood brother, wave a long finger to grampa Kim and pick up the first job from the placement agency. The only kind of invasion we're talking about is workforce type.

Old Kim would never make the mistake of sending troops outside of the borders, he knows damn well they won't come back "home".
