THQ tackling UFC 2009 cheaters News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

11 June, 2009

THQ is working on a patch to stop people cheating by disconnecting from UFC 2009 Undisputed online bouts when they are about to lose.

The update is undergoing testing, says the UFC 2009 Undisputed website, and will be released "as soon as possible".

We care because UFC 2009 Undisputed is actually very good, and represents a welcome addition and go-between for wrestling and boxing fans.

Head over to our UFC 2009 Undisputed review to find out why.

Disconnecting losers are my number one bugbear in online gaming. No wait, racist diatribe spouting scumbags are. No wait, whining 10 year old americans playing 16+ cert games are. Hang on a minute why the fuck do I go online?

Heh... I know a fair few UFC players and this IS their main peeve, disconnecting without penalty. Some of them claim to only finish about 10-20% of their bouts because of this. Much needed and overdue.

I stopped playing online because of this... and the fact that I suck at fighting on the ground and everybody seems to be doing it.

This is the worst thing in online gaming and very common im afraid. Developers should have solved this issue a long time ago. Gears 2 have a very good system for this imo. This happened to me a lot in RE5 versus. Damn loosers.

COD4 had a reasonably effective method -completing a game awarded as more xp than scoring in the game more often than not. Of course as soon as everyone hit 55 it was rage-quitting with gay abandon.

@riz23: You go online because of those rare times where you have had great fun/banter/laughs with like-minded, generally nice people. It's the gaming version of chasing the dragon.

This patch is much needed and a good move from THQ if they can get it out. I've only got 3 registered wins and 3 registered loses from 10 fights, on my match up profile it says I'm a 5 game win streak... DCers are spoiling an otherwise decent attempt at online mode.

I don't think its helped having the reach 'rank x' achievements and gain 1m fans, that encourages people to bottle out of fights since you lose XP and fans when you lose a match.

If they can patch up their net code to lower the ping time, they'll have a great online game.

Achievements like these can only ruin the game. When will developers learn. Epic, Infinity Ward and Bungie knows how to make sure the achievements dont ruin the multiplayer.

isn't it normal for games to award a win to the other player if someone jumps out? don't understand why that wasn't implemented from the start

Stoopidgreg I totally agree it actually put me off playing online to begin with then I started playing and my first two wins were erased from history. Its just an oversight. I accept that some people will have to quit mid game because someone is at the door or their kitchen could be on fire but quitting because you lose is just unmanly, especially since you are denying someone credit for their win.

I also agree you should level down for losing because that is what happens in MMA more or less. If you lose you fall down the rankings and bandwagon fans leave fighter they loved until they lost.

@stoopidgreg: You would think that, wouldn't you? i was used to the PES way: d/c & you lose 3-0, so this really pissed me off when it started happening.

d/cing in this game seems to get more popular every time I play. When I first played it was every 10th fight, whereas yesterday about 3/4 of the people disconnected just as i locked in a sub or rocked them with a punch. at the start you could just avoid anyone with a "100 fight win streak" or similar craziness - but everyone with all types of records seem to be doing it now.

intensely frustrating coz it means I have to spend 10 mins typing abusive messages on the sucky text input when I should have already started a new game!

@Malkotheslick: you can quit & take the loss through the pause menu if something comes up. quitters hit the dashboard or sign out to disconnect. for some crazy reason THQ thought the only reason that would happen is if there really was a network issue...

quitters! I hate the pathetic losers! Doesn't surprise me it happens in UFC, beat 'em ups are the worst for the sad little babies who can't take a whipping.

Gears is another one with many babies, many a time I was left on my own or with one other to fight to the bitter end against a full team.

I'm more bothered about the game breaking lag rather than quitters.... saying that it only seems to be effecting certain people.

Either way, if they could somehow use the ninja like netcode from SF4, I doubt i'd ever be able to stop playing this online. As it stands, multiplayer for me at the moment is a lad's night only affair sadly.

@riz23 - You have yet to fight me as promised Dean! Just so you know... If you beat me I'll quit and send you racist comments in a message.

Quitting without consequence is definately the biggest oversight in UFC Undisputed (just a bit bigger than the lack of clinching against the cage) made by the developers. I've gained more losses than wins in the past 2 weeks due to the fact these people deny me of a sweet victory by pulling the plug. I'm glad that the patch is already in testing... maybe it will stop the nerd-rage going on at the official forums.

I'll never understand why this isn't standard in all online games.

They should include a "loss by disconnection" count next to submission, tko etc in the player profile to truly name and shame.

You don't finish the game, you lose the game. Simple.

Kingmong-Thanks for the info I never knew however I have thankfully never needed to quit. I have however accidently hit A instead of B and had to take on another fight even though I did not want to, still finished the fight thought because I do not quit.

Anthony UK the lag can be really bad at times but other times it is pretty smooth just your luck I guess.

This crying shit is old. Please, go trade your game in! The online community will be better off for it.

THQ are fixing the issue. The only thing that concerns me is if they're going to wipe the boards. Hopefully they can just wipe the DNF stat as I get the feeling they will show the DNF stat in the pre-fight 'lobby' and I've had plenty of people quitting on me so my DNF must be around 30 or 40.
