Eurogamer is happy, historically sensitive and proud to announce that we will soon have thousands of beta keys for Call of Duty: World at War on Xbox 360 to give away. (Yes, we're reinforcing the servers first.)

That's because Activision remembers you all for your spectacular devotion to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and wants to reward it. At least, that's the way we like to think about it, although we suspect the real decision probably involved words like "bespoke", "convergence" and "segmentification".

The beta will launch this month, we've previously been told, although how long it will last and what you'll be able to do on it have yet to be announced.

We're also told that you will be guaranteed access to the beta if you pre-order the game from GAME in the UK, and that you can do this right now. The full thing is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, PS2 and DS from14th November.

Why not improve the experience of existing members by only giving keys to people that have been active at least once a week for the past year instead of loads of idiots flooding the forums and thousands of empty dummy accounts that will never be used?

The way EG does these key things I'd much rather not have them doing it at all.

5% as good as COD4 and 2.5% of that comes from minor (flame thrower) improvements to the COD4 engine.

due to my expectation of this game being poo, I preordered, and will know within a few hours of playing the beta wether my fears have been confirmed. I can then choose to wait, or cancel. my access code is coming this thursday, they already sent me an email last sunday saying so. from what I understand, this gives me access to a certain section of the site, from where I will get my key when the beta starts. or summat like that.

So people don't hang around or get angry: We only said it was "soon" - not today. It is NOT going to be before Friday. But we don't have the exact time and date because it is reliant on Activision and Xbox.

You shouldnt really ask for BETA keys, just be patient and wait for the game or at least be sensible and perhaps someone will feel for you and the position your in.

I to dont have the BETA but i dont ask for codes, because it just amounts to begging in the end. I will just wait for the game, and hope that the people who are playing will enjoy it and give good feedback on how the BETA is.

As long as their enjoying it then thats all you can ask.
