The videogame tie-ins for the new Thor and Captain America movies will be released alongside them in 2011.

That's according to Marvel's latest financial report, as spotted by Gamespot.

First out will be Thor, with the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie due for a release in May. Chris Hemsworth plays the leading role while Anthony Hopkins will star as Odin.

Captain America will follow in July. Official cast details have not been released but Samuel L. Jackson is rumoured to be playing Nick Fury.

A Spider-Man 4 tie-in also looks likely, with the film due out in May 2011, but nothing official has been announced. Activision has the exclusive right to produce Spider-Man games until 2017.

Spiderman hero next summer then, legendary version nets you a set of web blasters.

Games aside, hoping Thor and Captain America will be half decent films.

Don't forget the required web-shooter peripherals. Those, together with an inflated RPP, will see it being released for £100 while Activision also try to prevent another publisher releasing a totally unrelated game because they see it as competition.

On another note though, I'm cautiously optimistic about the Thor and CA films. There are very large potential problems though. Thor has a habit of forsoothing his verilys every other word, which I can imagine will get very irritating, very fast (it certainly does in print), and with the character being based in Norse Mythology it may fit badly with the more "realistic" continuity that Marvel are building with their movies now. With Captain America, again it could be good - but it could so easily fall into a trap of being a "America! F*ck yeah!" film and shoving patriotism in your face so much that it ends up coming across as a propaganda piece. And of course it will be interesting to see them try to get a guy dressed in primary-coloured chainmail with wings on his head look believable enough to be on a modern battlefield.

Don't worry darkmorgado, I'm quite confident Marvel knows what they're doing. Thor will mostly be set in the present day with Asgard as another dimension. Kenneth Branagh will do well and the cast sounds incredible (Robert De Niro may be in it). If you watch the animated Avengers movies, there's a scene where we are introduced to Thor and he speaks in a crazy Shakespearean dialect and people think he's just a lunatic. Then of course he shows his power and kicks ass. I don't think they're going to mess with too much forsoothing.
Captain America is potentially riskier tbh. Though the point of CA is not so much patriotism as you might think. CA is disappointed with his country and the way it handles business and also how he is treated; like a weapon for the government. It could make for some interesting moral dilemmas. Does he fight people who the government tells him are bad-guys? Does he play into the gun-toting, trigger-happy, "fuck everyone else, we're number 1" typical American attitude or does he question what he's doing? It's got a lot of potential but it has to be done right. They could parody American politics with some patriotic imagery but not make it cheesy.

OMG.. hollywood really is out of ideas. Are there any movies coming out that DON'T present a story we all know with flashy new visual FX that will make it look outdated in 6 months time? It's all the same bullshit. Bombastic score with too many horns accompanies what is basically a techdemo for what Industrial Light and Magic can do with lashings of pompous patriotism, stilted dialogue and childlike character development. Sounds familiar?

Hollywood? Marvel is self producing their movies. And have an overarching storyline that will result in an Avengers movie. Sounds really cool, if they can pull it off.

Agreed, I like how Marvel is actually ensuring all of their films have continuity now and aren't self-contained.
I just hope they branch out into TV. How cool would a Runaways tv series be?

Yea after the trash that was spiderman 3 I have zero confidence that Marvel "know what they are doing". Instead of having spidey capture the super villains, they simply kill them off. It's only a short matter of time before they don't have anyone left for their film heroes to fight.

Spiderman 3 wasn't one of theirs. I believe they started to take over with the new Hulk and Iron Man, so a hit and a miss. But even Hulk wasn't completely terrible

I just find it very very difficult to take a super hero seriously if they have tiny wings on their hats - doesn't that go for both of these films?

The new hulk was certainly miles better than the first hulk movie... Really dont think they can make a Thor movie that will be any good... its just not a good concept. (perhaps its just me remembering how bad Thor was in the Hulk Tv series/movie? way back in the day).

Hope the Thor and Captain America films are good ,I love both (specially Thor) characters and I would hate a rush job on them. But ,seeing how Marvel has handled their movies recently I am quite confident this will go well.

As for the games ,I hope we see some good games ,but knowing the precedents I pretty much doubt it.

Thor can be good if it's done right. If you've read any of the Thor comics, you'll see that there's all kinds of epic sagas involving God's, demons and magic that they can draw inspiration from. Thor was one of my favourites when I used to read Marvel comics regularly so it's disappointing that he never showed up in Capcom's Vs games as a playable character.

Won't be surprised if the game ends up a complete turd though like the Iron Man game.

After Ironman - I can't wait to see what Marvel have in store for us movie-wise.

Hulk was just an intro movie - nothing much happened, but at least it wasn't terrible or cheesy, eh?

Hopefully Sony wont be touching Spiderman again after botching Venom's character. I wish they could erase 3 or remake it.

Venom needs a whole film with him as the sole enemy. The character is very psychological with his twisted morals (doesn't kill innocents for example) and should be fleshed out some more. Spiderman 3 had too much going on and at the same time a huge gap in the middle with no action at all. The Green Goblin looked shit, the Sandman just gave up and died etc.

Ghostrider was the last good Marvel film I've seen.

Also, I noticed a DVD sequel to The Punisher called 'Punisher Warzone' with a different actor as the main guy. I assume this was a load of crap then since it seems to be a fairly low-key release?

Venom is being made, Ghost Rider was largely shit, and if you think that's the last best one, you clearly haven't seen Iron Man.
And the latest Punisher film is better than the Tom Jane/John Travolta one.

I've seen Iron Man and yes I thought it was very good. I just liked Ghost Rider too.

Will check out this new Punisher film when I get the chance.
