Third-person confirmed for MW2 News

Infinity Ward has said that Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer supports third-person view in private matches.

Following the release of a leaked video on YouTube, community man Robert Bowling told Joystiq that it was "just another cool way to play the game".

"You obviously will still have the option to play gametypes normal as well," he added.

Private matches supporting third-person mode will be labelled as such in-game, so you should have no trouble working it all out.

Modern Warfare 2 is due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 10th November. Check out our recent hands-on to see what we make of it.

Kotaku's story says its a game type, so its not just private matches, just that when you are in a 3rd person game you are stuck to that perspective, no switching, and everyone in the game is in that perspective.

yea might get some of my mates who only ever want to play gears of queers to play once in a while!

ps I like GOW, its just my mates only ever want to play it!

hmmm, dont think this will add anything as CODMW is built around fps and going the socom direction just seems like a gimmick which is unsuitable for the game.

From what I've seen from the recorded live stream video's, the 3rd person gamemodes are actually playlists available in the online multiplayer, not only in private matches.

It should be interesting to see how games differ in this mode. I predict it might be easier to spot enemies, yet harder to shoot them... who knows.

With all these new features in modern warfare 2, I'm surprised that this didn't leak out sooner. This might actually be fun ... for a few games, after that it's back to first person, hehe :P

I cant see myself playing COD in 3rd perspective but an extra option is always extra so no harm no foul. At least I know ill be checking the option out :)

Woohoo, the addition of this tacked-on piece of inevitably badly implemented fluff, combined with my attention span of 7 seconds, means all my previous concerns over exorbitant pricing and the insult to PC gamers that is represented by the enforcement of IWNet server usage only is swept away.

I don't think.

You could do a third person mode on nazi zombies cod waw it was alot harder to target someone
