Third Mortal Kombat film on the way News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Ellie Gibson

9 July, 2009

Good news for fans of poor quality big screen adaptations of old videogames - another Mortal Kombat movie is coming.

That's according to Chris Casamassa, the actor who played Scorpion in the first two films and is now set to reprise his role a third time. He told the SGV Tribune that filming will begin in September.

Casamassa has previously appeared as an extra in The Karate Kid and as George Clooney's stunt double for Batman & Robin. "Now I do maybe do one film a year because I'm helping my dad run our company and it's kind of a full-time job, which I love," he said.

"I'm married and I have kids now, so I can't be traveling all over the world." Scorpion a family man, eh? Who'd have thought it.

LOL straight to DVD!

To be fair the first movie was suprisingly watchable. On a MK note I rented MK vs DC and it's actually quite a laugh, after playing it I've kept it swapgame for 12 quid off Swapgame. Bargain! :)

DC is still gay (apart from Bats) though....

Despite Mortal Kombat being bad...it was enjoyable to watch somehow. Not that it's saying much, but it kicked Street Fighter's arse in terms of movies at the very least.

Hopefully they'll stick to the brief of "the second film never happened, just forget about it" as I loved the first one

It won't be good unless at the very end everybody jumps with their fists in the air and they freeze frame it for a few seconds before the credits roll.

Again, the first movie was pretty decent. The second movie was hilariously cheesy/awful.
They've been talking about a third one for so long, I doubt anything will ever come of it.

the first one was actually a lot of fun.

Something doesn't have to be good to be fun, you know?

The first one was surprisingly watchable. I have a feeling I've seen the second one, but it may have been so awful that my mind blocked it out.

Actually no, I have seen it - it was so fucking awful that we tried to walk out after five minutes and see The Postman instead, but the cinema manager wouldn't let us. You bastard!

I think it's great that the linked source in the article goes to the IGN reveal of C&C4 and not to the Tribune or anything to do with MK.

Actually, I don't. Care.

It may be worth, however, Ellie taking a couple of seconds out of her day to fix-da-link.

I remember seeing the second one in the cinema on it's debut (Not knowing it was utter crap) about 4 people turned up...

It was still 4 too many, TERRIBLE film, this one will probably be worse...

I don't see why they shouldn't. That's pretty standard Lambert protocol.

I loved the first one, as unrealistic as it was. It had Lambert as Raiden!

quite liked the first film. not so much the second, except for killing off johnny within 1 minute at the start - classic! I bet the actor was pissed after reading that in the script

The first was watchable. The second wasn't as good as the TV series.

According to Wikipedia he didn't appear in the second movie as he was doing Batman.
He appeared in the TV show though.

Ironically, the first MK is still probably one of the best game movies - I was about 12 when it came out, and the excessive dodgy CGI and rubbish fights had endless appeal at that age.

But then, it's not exactly up against stiff competition, huh?

@ wellzy4eva:

I also remember going to the cinema to see the second one when it came out. And being chuffed about getting into a 15 Certificate when i was only 14! Although looking back, I probably got in due to a massive lack of interest from other people. Does anyone else remember the half arsed dancy soundtrack?
