Third batch of DLC coming for Alan Wake

Plus: New details of The Signal. Spoiler alert.

Remedy's Matias Myllyrinne has said that not one, not two but three batches of downloadable content are on the way for Alan Wake.

Two of these - The Signal and The Writer - have already been announced. But Myllyrinne has also told MTV, "We'll have a further pack coming later this year."

The Remedy boss went on to reveal more of what we can expect from The Signal, which is due to hit Xbox Live on next month. (You might want to stop reading right now if you don't like spoilers.)

It's set not in Bright Falls but in the weird world which Alan encounters during the final scenes of the original game. Does that more of that business with the torch and the nouns?

"We have a nifty way of moving [the story] forward and materialising that into gameplay and storytelling without going into a mode of weirdness," said Myllyrinne. "For a thriller to work you need it to be grounded in reality. Otherwise all bets are off because the rules don't really apply. So we wanted to have it kind of grounded in reality but also to take a more twisted take, because this is an extreme place and position he finds himself in."

He went on to say The Signal will feature something similar to the New York City dream sequence, where environments appear real but "there's something off".

The Signal will be released on 28th July, and will be free to download providing you held onto the code included in the box.

Don't let Ellie review the DLC. Simple as that.

Alan Wake started very well in my opinion but I honestly feel the 7/10 score here was on the money. The first couple of episodes were fantastic (had a couple of really good scares) but by the end I was simply running through it, trying to avoid the combat as I realised I just wasn't enjoying it. I didn't even want to explore. Glad to see it has its fans though - it did try something new.

Edit: negged for stating my opinion. seen a fair bit of this on here lately. what gives?

Is this the new step for DLC; create a short game and just supply endless amounts of DLC to make it into a full game?

I can see episodic games becoming the norm in the near future...

oh yes i did hold onto that code and i am looking forward to finishing this game, i played the first episode and left it at that for a while but i must get back into it.

this game reminds me a lot of eternal darkness. things going weird with the grafics, sound, ligth and having to explore other dimensions(strange places). having fun with this game so far.

I never cared about the 7/10. I just felt some of the criticisms in that review were petty. And trying to score laughs in a review does not work for me. Maybe for others, but maybe I am boring :-(

Anyway, I cannot wait for the DLC. I am going through the game again on Nightmare mode and don't feel bored with it.

I'm still mulling over my own score now that I've played it and part of me is still wondering whether it's worth trading in or waiting a little longer. The game was an 8/10 for me until the extremely weak ending, that pretty much knocked it down to 7/10. I loved the story up to that point, with the ending feeling like it had said:

"You invested 10 - 12 hours of playing the story for this wacky, ambigiuous ending that doesn't mean anything and has plenty of plot-holes, I bet you're glad you paid for me now!"

I felt a bit shortchanged, regardless of the DLC. Felt like Remedy had "copped out".

PS - Just for clarification, that's "PLOT-HOLES" and not POT-HOLES. I am not certain that there is a Pot-Hole Edition of Alan Wake. If you have a copy though, I'd be interested to know.
