The Witcher: Versus coming to iPhone

Portable version of browser duel game.

The Witcher is to get a spin-off for iPhone and iPod Touch, reports Destructoid.

Going by the video, it's a portable version of The Witcher: Versus, a browser-based, multiplayer, one-on-one fighter enjoyed by the Polish RPG's community.

In the browser version, players pick one of three classes - Witcher, Sorceress or Beast - and build a character to level 30, gathering skills and items as they engage in a series of toe-to-toe scraps with other players.

According to the site, it's "a modern version of the classic battlemail games, which consist of sending challenges to opponents with a fight sequence queued up in advance - attacks, defence and special actions". It was originally known as DuelMail. It's free to play, you just need to be a member of The Witcher's forum.

CD Projekt confirmed a rough date and details for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings yesterday: it's coming in the first quarter of 2011.

    They keep bangin on about the iPhones potential as a gaming device and although I have loads of games for mine, they're nothing more than time passing gimmicks. Apart from Angry Birds, nothing else sticks.

    Don't know much about the game - has anyone played the browser version?

    @Quint
    Try something like BaSS Remastered - it's a excellent adaptation of game that fits the format beautifully - or Let's Golf with the touch swing controls. Both lovely, both perfect fits for the platform, both with gameplay in buckets.

    I played the browser game, it's fun. One of those games that only require a couple of minutes per day, but it's very addictive. You pick up opponents, send a challenge, queue your moves and wait. A couple of hours later you check out if anyone responded or if someone challenged you instead. Then you watch the fight, which is TENSE.
    You level up, unlock new skills, buy new items etc.

    It's a very nice little game, and The Witcher forumites and about 75% of Poland keep playing it more than a year since launch.

    Must admit, the announcement just made me think of this. Specifically it made me think of his rant about how the App Store is just used to generate brand awareness.
