They forced you to talk about the motion capturing - didn't they?

"The Witcher hopes to be different."

[Lengthy text that makes The Witcher sound like a generic punch rat > level up game]

"The Witcher doesn't feel like a generic RPG and CD Projeckt has clearly taken time to work on the little things."

I'm not convinced yet, but I'll grant this game the benefit of doubt.

Why does it feel like this game has been in development forever? I remember seeing the first screenshots from this 3-4-5 years ago or so.

If they had released it then.. now it doesn't interest me as much. Free-form exploration for teh win!!

Well it may try to be different, but it is still bloody ELVES and DWARVES!

I don't know if it's lack of imagination, too much reliance on certain types of source material or a fear of going outside well-established conventions, but it's stupid that such a versatile genre uses the same characters game after game after game.

I like the sound of this - reminds me a little bit of the themes and style of Planescape:Torment.

Because they took their time to make the game as good as possible rather than releasing a lack-lustre, buggy me-too Action-RPG. This is CD Projekt's first in-house title, so they feel they've got to get it right.

I think it's been in development 2-3 years at least.

Nice preview - by far the most interesting RPG in development for me.

I like the sound of this - reminds me a little bit of the themes and style of Planescape:Torment.

The developers quote Planescape: Torment as one of their major sources of inspiration.

Nah, don't worry, it's not a JRPG. ;)

The books are not just "dark" fantasy. It's pretty much pitch black fantasy.

Edit: Oh, and the first collection of stories about Geralt will come out in English really soon.

"The Witcher hopes to be different. For a start, the Elves are terrorists."

This sentence somehow remembered me that there is not Shadowrunner mmo at the moment. And this is sad.

The other skill we saw in effect was Seduction, where successfully chatting up a local wench rewarded us with a dirty porno card. Honestly, it was proper tits-out Euro smut, none of that pants-on glamour rubbish you get in the UK.

Bought! ;-)

In fact I AM a guy from Poland but I'm not especially fond of Sapkowski's books. I might check out the game however... It's true that it sounds a bit on the generic side but I'm ready to be proven wrong. I mean - the main reason why I don't like cRPGs is that they are ALL generic, including the good ones and I really don't see a way to make them non-generic unless we design some uber-realistic human-like AI you can freely interact with... Eliza Bot anyone? ;-)

The combat and the dark setting sound interesting, but having to play a certain character is a big turn-off in an RPG. So far I can only recall Deus Ex and Planescape:Torment pulling it off well.

Sounds interesting, its always good to have a good range of RPG developers out there. Last year was dreadful for RPGs. With Witcher, Mass Effect, and FFXII coming out it should be a good year.

The books are really good (I'm from Poland). Some of the plot elements are based on Polish folklore, which is cool for us Poles, but may not be as cool for foreigners. Too bad I'd given up on PC gaming a long time ago.

Hey guys, I've had this game for 2 days and I really like it. It's very playable. The attack sequences are amazing and the game simply flows on. So far i've been playing for about 10h and I'm becoming quite hooked on it. I do not agree with the review. The game is great, period.

Hey, the game's great! I don't agree that it's a drawback that you can play only one character. It's just the way game is, take it or leave it. I like it.
All in all, a game of the year for me.
